Gunpla Boot Camp?

Disclaimer: I don't own GBF or OCs used; it belongs to Sunrise and to their owners.

"So, just to be clear on this, what do you guys want me to do?"

My parents looked to each other and back at me as if I just said something in a foreign language. Mom told me again for the third time, "The boot camp that Lyle is at wants you and the gang to teach them how to build and customize Gunpla."

"WHY THE HELL DID YOU AGREE TO THAT!?"

"TONE AND LANGUAGE YOUNG MAN! You released all those notes on Plavsky Particle usage right? You should be able to handle teaching a roomful of kids for a few hours. And it wasn't us who agreed, it was Monica." God damn it Monica, run anything through me and the gang first before you volunteer us for anything.

"So, when do we leave?"

"Today… you can make it in two hours."

"Great… let me get my stuff ready." I dragged myself upstairs because why the hell am I doing this? As soon as I got into my room, I immediately talked to Monica. "Why did you volunteer the gang for teaching Lyle's boot camp?"

"Actually, the gang decided on it behind your back."

"What?"

"They wanted to do something as a regular group of friends and we noticed that a one-day teaching position was open at Lyle's boot camp."

"And you just accepted?"

"Quite naturally, yes." I threw my hands up in the air to gesture "What the actual fucking hell?"

"Well, do you have everything you need?"

"Yeah, everyone else should be here soon."

"Great, let me just make some adjustments to the Crossbone Zabanya." Ever since the match with team Meer Pleasure, I've been going through various designs and changes to try and maximize the Zabanya's performance. The only medical changes, however, were changing Zabanya's original shoulders to Crossbone X-1's shoulders and painting them green where it wasn't white. I was considering taking Crossbone X-1's legs and keeping Zabanya's torso or making a new torso where it still serves like Zabanya's torso. Then again, I'd have to come up with a new head unit along with a new V-fin to complement the redesign. AH I CAN'T DO THIS RIGHT NOW!

"Is everything alright Kale?"

"Yeah, it's fine… I'm just considering what to do to the Crossbone Zabanya."

"Well, if I'm assuming correctly, you might want to make a new torso, head unit and V-fin to make this look aesthetically pleasing and perhaps more aerodynamic in battle."

"That's what I thought. The thing is, I don't have the time to design all those things, especially since the final rounds are coming up soon."

"You should be able to find some inspiration after today."

The door bell rung and in came the gang. Darren and Kaila were the first to address us. "So Kale, Monica, any 'developments' that you want to share?"

"Oh my god you guys, stop prying into my life! It's my business and you guys are freaking breaking social norms!"

"Don't blame us for wondering how your nights are!"

"MOM! GET THESE IDIOTS OUT OF HERE!"

"LANGUAGE! DO IT YOURSELF!"

God damn it Mom. "Alright, so who's driving?" They all looked at me with looks of surprise. "Ugh, fine."

We all went downstairs as I grabbed the car keys. As we went outside to the garage which had a Chrysler, Darren called out, "Shot gun!"

"No can do good sir. My car, my rules."

Darren replied back with, "Hypocrite, you're breaking social norms!"

I repeated again, "My car, my rules." I paused for a second and said, "Monica's up front." Darren and Kaila groaned while Raymond stayed silent. As I backed the car up, everyone started to talk as loud as Jack in the scene when the doll was tossed over the edge to test if he would survive from jumping. "QUIET OR I PUT THIS CAR BACK IN THE GARAGE AND WE DON'T GO!" Everyone just shut up after that. "Good. Now we're off!" The car ride was boring as all hell because we forgot to bring some miscellaneous things with us and the awkward silence between Darren and Kaila's back-and-forth game of I Spy was very torturing. I decided to break the never-ending awkward silence by asking, "Monica, why exactly did you sign all of us up?"

No response from her, which was very weird because she almost always had an answer right away. Then we got an answer. "Gunpla. To spread the love of Gunpla, as Meijin Kawaguchi puts it."

"The Meijin?"

"Yeah. Also, I've wanted to tell my brother how wonderful Gunpla was, and teach him all I knew about Gunpla, but that opportunity was stolen from me."

Kaila asked, "Stolen from you?"

"You all know how my family 'mysteriously' died, right?" We nodded. "That doesn't really explain it all. I was right there when they were murdered." Murdered?

"We were taking a family trip to meet some family friends and we had just stopped at a rest stop. I rushed out of the car because I needed to go really badly and thus I took the longest. I know what you're thinking, 'Monica is a grown-up kid, so why did she need to go that badly?' The answer to that is: I just really needed to go."

"Whoa! TMI!"

"Do you want me to finish or not?" She had me there.

"After I had finished my business, I went outside to the car. My mother and brother were waiting with smiles on their faces as usual, but father had a pained look on his face as if he knew what was going to happen next. Time slowed down as I walked to the car. The next moment, my whole life was shattered as I stared upon the burning remains of my family. I only uttered, "Mama, Papa, Jack… it's not true. It can't be true."

"And there you have it. That's how my family died."

Darren totally blared in just then. "That still doesn't explain how they died!"

"They died because while we were out of the car, someone planted an explosive or something like that in the car."

That had us in our boots. I stopped after reaching wood posts. "We're here." After putting the car in park and turned the engine off, we walked the rest of the way in pretty much absolute silence. When we reached the cabin in the woods, we were given a "warm" welcoming, which consisted of my brother, and I forgot to mention that he looked like Lyle from his younger years, and the camp director. "So I see that we get a welcoming party, Mr. Clifton!"

The man in question, who was the typical balding man, laughed sarcastically. "Yes Mr. Cassel, your welcoming party is very big!" This time he got serious. "Come, let us talk business." I gave him a look that said, "Not here for any BS." He just shrugged. "All right then. Lyle, guide your brother and his friends to the building hall."

Lyle replied with a chipper answer. "Yes sir." After Mr. Clifton left us, Lyle relaxed a lot more. "I swear that guy is going to kill me!"

"You don't get to complain little brother, I had him too and he's not as bad as…" I stopped at that.

"Not as bad as whom?" After all these years, after managing to forget about Kyle, I just remembered him.

Luckily, Monica was there to pull my ass out of the fire. "So, Lyle, how's your girlfriend?"

Lyle and I asked, more like shouted, at the same time, "GIRLFRIEND!?"

Lyle mumbled and stuttered like crazy. "I… uh… uh… I-I-I-I d-don't know what you're talking about, M-Monica. All she is just a… friend and we're… figuring it out?"

I stabbed Lyle with my eyes. "So, tell me more about her, Lyle."

"Ah, you see… it's funny you should say that…" I continued to approach him while cracking my knuckles. "She, and this is the funny part, which is also the ironic part, looks like Anew Returner and her name is Anew."

After processing what he just said, I said, "Huh?"

"I know! I was confused when I met her as well. I checked a picture I had on my phone to compare the two and it was a perfect match!" He started laugh-crying in front of me. Then he ran.

Darren and Kaila shouted after him, "WAIT UP YOU PUNK!"

After they left, hot on Lyle's tail, Monica and Raymond gave me concerned looks. Monica broke the silence. "Are you okay? You were just talking and then you looked as if you just saw a ghost. That's rare, even from you."

"I agree. In all the time I've known you Kale, you've never had a reaction to what you've said like that."

I shrugged their worries off. "C'mon guys, it's nothing to worry about; the only thing I'd worry about is being left here after our guide and friends left us!" After they realized that I was right, we charged in the direction that everyone else went in. It took us a while, but we found our way out of the woods behind the cabin and found ourselves in front of what must have a castle. "When did this get here?"

"Just this year Kale." I turned to face Lyle on my left. "Apparently, the number of attendees was so great this year, the director had enough money to renovate the buildings and get new tools as well."

"So, all the memories I had back then, are gone?"

"Nope. We took pictures of everything."

"But those mean nothing without the actual events!"

And as Lyle and I got into a huge argument, a familiar voice chimed in. "Alright class, time to get started!"

"Mr. Plight!"

"Hm? Ah, Kale. You're in the Maryland Nationals right?"

I would have answered, but Lyle did so for me. "Yes he is. It's only the third round though, but he is kicking major ass!"

"Now Lyle, don't inflate it too much."

"You're just too modest."

"You're too willing to boast even if it isn't your accomplishments!"

"Maybe it's because I'm proud to call you my brother!"

And as we continued to argue, an incredibly familiar voice chimed in. "So, you're Lyle's brother."

I turned towards the origin of the voice. "And who are you?"

Just one stare at her answered for me. "If Lyle hadn't talked about me, even just a little, I'm Anew Lorian." Lyle wasn't kidding when he said that she looked like Anew Returner. "I get that a lot."

Mr. Plight just stated, "All right, let's get in the classroom before something new happens!" And they all entered the aforementioned classroom like good little children coming in from recess time.

"That was a bit weird."

Lyle explained. "Ah, that's the way Mr. Plight is."

"He was never like that before."

Lyle shrugged. "Anyways, let's go in before he yells at me." We hurried in, at Lyle's suggestion, and encountered a classroom setting that I had never seen before when I was here.

Mr. Plight began class. "Welcome back class! As you may have heard, or seen, we have guests here today and two of them are former cadets of this camp." My god, he still actually uses the stupid rank system. I laughed internally at this. "And they, with their friends, have been temporarily given the rank of Admiral to teach all of you about the fine intricacies of building Gunpla and the customization of Gunpla. Please give a round of applause for Kale Cassel, Darren Blake and their team, the 00 Trailblazers."

We walked up to the front of the classroom to introduce ourselves. "Thank you Mr. Plight. I see you still use the rank system." The class laughed at this and he only nodded. "Yes, if you haven't guessed already, I'm Lyle's older brother and I am participating in the fight to go the World Tournament with my team who are standing faithfully beside me, the mixed-range asset."

Darren walked up. "Wazzup you scrubs?" No one laughed at that. "Dry humor here… not bad… anyways, the name's Darren Blake and I am the team's speed asset. Ask me for tips on transformable, high-speed Gunpla."

Kaila went up. "Ignore the monkey who just talked." The class roused up loud laughter at this. Darren just crossed his arms. "My name is Kaila Killian, and I am the team's long-range bombardment asset. Ask me for tips on mobile suit-sized fortresses, you can never go wrong."

Raymond went up. "Yes, that's all nice, but no Gunpla is complete without close-range weapons and a calm mind." The only ones who understood what Raymond was saying were those in the back, who kept nodding their heads in agreement. "I am Raymond Kens, the team's close-range asset. Ask me for advice on your Gunpla's sword and I will comply."

Monica went up and I instantly saw the whole class perk up, especially the boys. "No team can truly battle without sound tactics, and that's where I come in. No matter the quality of the Gunpla, you need to predict what your enemy will do and react five steps ahead of them. I am Monica Crain, the team's best builder and the tactics officer. Ask me for tips on building exceptional Gunpla, and the ways to predict like Sumeragi Lee Noriega or Kati Mannequin." The class clapped as if she had just won a Grammy. "And boys, I'm off limits." The class just "OOOOOH-ed" and because of that, the single boys were blushing like crazy, the committed boys were just shaking their heads, and the four of us just hid laughs behind hands.

Mr. Plight went up. "Thank you for that brief, but refreshing introduction. Well, I will know turn control of this class over to them." Mr. Plight stepped down and from that point, we just went with it.

First on the agenda, I had them do a cliché task. "So, first things first, I'll give a Gunpla to look at and you have five minutes to inspect it from where you're sitting and then one minute to tell me what you noticed about it." I set forth an HG 1/144th scale Anno Domini AEU Enact for them to examine. "You have five minutes, starting now." And five minutes I gave them, five that I spent looking into their eyes, seeing if they were looking into every nook and cranny of the Gunpla. After time was up, I said, "Now that you've had ample time to examine this Gunpla, you now have that one minute to tell me all you noted about it."

"It's a High Grade Gunpla."

"Yes it is, but most Gunpla in use today consist of High Grades. What else?"

This one was the stupidest, and most obvious of all. "It's an Enact."

I moaned in disgust. "Yes, it's obviously not a Flag."

Someone then came up with the magic answer. "It's a straight build."

I got up and made dynamic movements. "Yes! Thank you, whoever said that! Can you define what a straight build is?"

The one who answered my last question gladly answered this one. "A straight build is a Gunpla that is built exactly how the instructions say to build it; there are also no changes to the Gunpla whatsoever."

I again made dynamic movements. "Yes, thank you! Gold star! Gunpla's quality is determined by how it's built and a straight build is somewhat of the lowest quality, unless it was built by one whose hands can master the craft of building Gunpla and make the lowest quality into masterpieces." I let them process this for a half-second. "I'll let you try this exercise again with a Gunpla that's been customized a great deal." I pulled the Crossbone Zabanya out of the case that's clipped to my pants and set it down on the table. "This is my Gunpla for the tournament. I'll let you have the same amount of time to examine it and to tell me what you notice." And so I gave them the restated times and at the end, I asked of them, "What did you notice about my Crossbone Zabanya?"

One immediately said, "It's well-built, with high performance in mind, as well as improved close-range capabilities and moderate far-range options."

"I'd have done without hearing the 'moderate far-range', but it's somewhat agreeable."

Anew came in at this time. "It has impurities all over the frame."

I gave her a questioning look, then I looked at my Gunpla. I, of course, would never notice any impurities because it's my work, but if someone skilled enough were to examine it, with the ABC cloak on no less, I would have noticed it later. "Impressive Ms. Lorian, you were able to tell me that there were impurities on the Gunpla while it had its ABC cloak equipped."

"It's nothing, if I was a student at the Gunpla Academy."

I looked at Monica to confirm. "It's true: I remember an Anew Lorian at the Academy."

"It was by reputation that I knew of Monica Crain, so when I heard that Monica Crain was participating in the tournament, I couldn't help but be surprised."

"Well Anew, you know me personally now."

I switched my view between the two of them comically and was ultimately confused. "Well, why don't we take a short recess?" As we all left the room, I stopped Monica for a second and asked, "What was that back there?"

She paused. "It's nothing."

"Nothing? My little brother could potentially be dating that girl. I need to know if she's dangerous or not."

She stared at me with a straight face. "No, Anew is not dangerous." I took her word for it and went back inside to chill off.

When the recess was over, they all trailed back into the room. "Alright, so, why don't we have you build your dream Gunpla? First, I just need to know one thing: who can Lyle speak for, in terms of building ability?" Ten hands immediately shot up into the air. "Lyle, how many of them can you speak for?"

"Not too many, because I just started helping some of them and others that I've worked with are at higher levels of building capacity than I am."

"Point them out for the love of god." He pointed to a guy, a girl and Anew. "Okay, the four of you are to go around the room and help the other students while the five of us do the same."

Lyle paused. "…Okay." I'm sensing a lot of negative crap. What is it about today and negative crap?

Anyways, before I got around to doing anything, I noticed a girl outside the door. I went to investigate and found out that she wasn't a camp attendee: she didn't have the feel of one, so she must've been here on business. "Is there anything I can help you with?" I have to note that she looks like Ange from the Cross Ange anime.

She took her own pleasant time. "Why yes, tell me more about yourself, Kale Cassel, twin of Kyle Cassel."

I flinched in place. "How do you know that?"

"Please, when one such as your brother makes the news, everyone will turn their attention to you."

I actually felt insulted. "Well, what did you want?"

She was being very snooty. "I just wanted to introduce myself to my potential competition."

"Well, out with it."

She just clicked her tongue. "Patience young man." I felt ticks of anger on my forehead. "I'm Romary Lorian from California." Lorian? "Team leader of Norma, pilot of the Villkiss inspired Gunpla."

"Making Gunpla out of a different mech? Especially from the Cross Ange anime?"

"Well, your next enemy is not so different. Bye."

"Well, don't underestimate us! We've a trump up our sleeves!"

"Don't try to look so big when we already know about it." Wha… no way. She just smirked. "Bye."

I just looked on with a look of bewilderment. Monica shook me from my shock. "Who was that?"

"A team leader from California, and apparently Anew's sister."

"Anew never said anything about having any siblings or any other family for that matter."

A crowd was gathering around an individual who dwelled in an alley, and among the crowd are Jane Bard and Seth Geisel. The crowd was listening to that man preach about the wrongs that have been committed by companies such as Yajima Trading and PPSE for holding the Gunpla Battle World Tournaments and was recruiting for his team. Jane interrupted the eccentric man's speech. "Uh, isn't your team, wherever you're from, still fighting to guarantee a place in the national tournament?"

"I'm from Finland," the man replied, "and my team took on all the opposing teams at once, and won." The man let his words sink into those who were there. "So, my team is looking for inspired fighters. Is there anyone who would want to exact justice on these moral-less companies?"

Jane was the first to speak up. "I don't want to exact justice on anybody… I just want to make Kale Cassel mine!"

Seth was the second and last one to speak up. "I just want revenge on Kale Cassel and his stupid bitch!"

The man was perplexed, but satisfied with what he got. "I see that you have your own reasons for joining, but nevertheless, you have a reason to fight. Come with me."

Jane stopped the man to ask one question. "Who are you?"

The man turned around to answer her. "I'm… I'm someone close to the one both of you spoke of. I… I'm Kysel."

Kale: That wasn't so bad after all.

Raymond: But now it's time to prepare for the third round.

Kaila: Are we up against GN Drive-equipped Gunpla?

Darren: To think that we'd have to fight against "Giants" in the azure.

Kale: Next time, Fafner vs Gundam.

Monica: Our tactics are evenly matched! There's no other choice but to use…

00 Trailblazers: Trans-Am!

A/N's: As I forgot to include the Raiser Dash's description to the chapter it premiered in, I'll add it now.

Raymond's Gunpla is the HS/GNR-0000ADB Gundam 00 Raiser Dash. The Raiser Dash is a fusion of the 00 Raiser and the Avalanche Exia Dash. The Raiser Dash is meant to be a close-combat unit through and through, although it can engage in ranged combat if it needs to, but it's rather limited in its capacity to do so. The Raiser Dash can use the Trans-Am System, and it has a High-Speed Mode with the GN Condensers it has to move in an extreme burst of speed in one direction, but he can only use it once in a battle.

The Raiser Dash's weapons consist of two arm-mounted GN Beam Vulcans, two GN beam sabers, the Avalanche Exia's GN Blade collection and two leg-mounted GN Claws (that can also turn into beam sabers), two sets of missile launchers in the Raiser's wings, and two GN Buster Sword IIIs from the XN variant of the 00 Raiser stored on the back. Raymond will combine the Buster Swords when he becomes serious, as he fights better using a two-handed weapon.

The Raiser Dash has the appearance of the Avalanche Exia Dash, except with the torso and head of the 00 Raiser, and the Raiser's wings replace the AED's shoulder condensers. It is colored red, with white and sand brown accenting.
