Chapter 6: Reflection

Harry had awoken in many odd places and situations throughout his life. When he was young he was often woken by his uncle dragging him out of his cupboard and forcing him to fix breakfast, or by his whale of a cousin trudging his way downstairs and spitefully stomping on the steps directly over his head. Once he started attending Hogwarts he often awoke to half-naked boys grumbling about breakfast and classes. Ever since Harry moved in with Sirius and Remus his experience waking was more pleasant than ever before. He would get up when he felt like it and go downstairs where he and Remus would make breakfast together. Harry treasured the bonding time with his reserved godfather.

Yes, he had definitely woken in a plethora of different situations, but nothing prepared him for what he faced when he opened his eyes the morning after his meeting with the Weasleys. He blinked in shock for a moment before clenching his eyes closed and praying desperately for the oblivious bliss of unconsciousness. There was no way today could be a good day since it was starting off with Severus Snape lounging calmly in an obscenely large, black, plushy armchair stroking a white fluffy cat that probably could have been used as a duster. It was only a few minutes into the day, but Harry was done – with a capital D.

"Mr. Potter, I am aware of the fact that you are conscious. While your mental faculties are nothing to be admired, I do believe they are developed enough for you to realize that even you can't pretend to be unaware of my presence when your eyes are obviously open and I am sitting directly within your line of sight."

"Erm…good morning?'

"Unlikely."

"Pardon me for asking Sir, but what are you doing in my room watching me sleep?"

"I was not watching you sleep Potter."

"It sorta appears that you were."

"Unfortunately for you Mr. Potter things are not always as they appear to be. I have been trying to decide upon a worthy punishment."

"Punishment?"

"Indeed. Not only did you trample me in your headlong rush from the common room last night, you also ignored me when I instructed you to stop and come back."

Harry ducked his head in embarrassment, he couldn't believe he'd been so enthralled by the small golden ball that he'd completely lost all sense of decorum.

"I do apologize sir."

"I appreciate that Potter. However there will still need to be some form of punishment. Be grateful that the headmaster intercepted me last night in my pursuit of you and forbade me from approaching you until this morning. I dare say I would have done much worse in the heat of anger… a trait we have in common I must admit."

"Yes sir."

"Now, the punishments I originally stated still stand. You have lost yourself 60 points from Gryffindor and must serve one month of detention with me. I shall use that time to train you on proper pureblood etiquette, as well as a number of other subjects that I feel would be beneficial. In addition to those punishments you are to be partnered up with Mr. Malfoy in every class you share with him. I do believe that in itself will make you reconsider ever attempting to pull such a vulgar stunt as you did last night. Have I made myself clear?" Harry would have pointed out that he was no longer a Gryffindor, but he realized that Snape was fully aware of that and just didn't care.

"Yes sir."

"Good. Get dressed and get to breakfast." Severus stood with the cat in his arms and vanished the chair with a flick of his wrist before quickly departing.

An owl came in through the door as Severus exited and flew over to place a shrunken parcel on his bed before flying out again just before the door shut. Harry was very thankful that his long overdue resorting had garnered him his own room instead of having to share with a partner like most of the other Slytherins. He had never really had his own space before – even his small room at the Dursley's house had felt more like a prison cell than a place for him to relax and unwind. This room, however, was his. It was his territory and he would defend it from all intruders. With that thought in mind Harry focused all of his magic on constructing impenetrable wards for his room. After a moment of thought he extended them across the ceiling and floor to create a seamless bubble of wards around his room. He went back over them and put a couple of finishing touches on them to make sure there were no weak spots.

Once that was done he moved the package from the end of his bed to the floor up against an empty wall then waved a hand over it and stood back to watch it transform into a large oak wardrobe. As it transformed his mind drifted back to the shopping trip with his godfathers.

"Shopping!"

"Calm down, Padfoot. You're going to scare off the cub before we even get out the door."

Sirius pouted for a moment before perking up and turning to Harry. "So, any idea where you want to go first?"

"Well, we have to go to Diagon Alley to pick up my school supplies, so why don't we start in muggle London. That way we can take whatever we find over to Madam Malkin's so that they can be specially altered."

"Sounds good to me, cub."

Harry transfigured a potholder into a baseball cap to cover his new ears and put his tail in his pants before covering those areas with a glamour charm just to be sure no one saw them. With a plan in mind they apparated to the Leaky Cauldron and headed out of the dingy pub and into muggle London. The first shop they stopped at specialized in the latest fashion of teenagers in London. Sirius and Remus were looking around incredulously at some of the current trends being modeled on the store mannequins. One of them was dressed in a pair of super skinny jeans and a brightly colored jacket over a black tee.

"I know this is about you finding who you are and being true to yourself, but if you try to purchase anything like that I'll apparate you out of this store and straight to the mental health ward at Saint Mungo's." Sirius told him with a mischievous glint in his eye.

"Don't worry, there is nothing anyone could do to even make me try that on."

Remus' voice interrupted their conversation, "How about these, Harry?" he called out from his place beside a display of long-sleeved Henley shirts. Harry and Sirius walked over to him and Harry's eyes were immediately drawn to a deep emerald green Henley on the display. He grabbed two different sizes since he wasn't quite sure what size he wore, before turning back to Remus.

"I'm going to go try these on. Make sure to keep an eye on Sirius while I'm in the changing area." Remus nodded and both men ignored the offended 'Hey!' from Sirius as Harry quickly made his way over to the men's changing area.

He found an empty stall where he proceeded to strip off his shirt and pull the smaller Henley over his head. Once it was finally in place he stepped out of his stall and went over to the large floor length mirror to examine the fit. While the shirt wasn't so tight that it cut off his circulation, it didn't leave anything to the imagination either. The skintight green shirt emphasized every muscle in his upper body and made his eyes appear even greener than usual.

A sudden movement of someone in his peripheral vision caught his attention and he spun around to see a tall man in his early twenties standing behind him and undressing him with his eyes.

"Hello, there." The guy said in a sickly smooth tone.

Harry refused to offer any more acknowledgement than a small nod before heading back to his stall. This size was definitely a no. He hoped it was just the size of the shirt and not the actual material that caused it to cling so revealingly.

He changed into the larger size as swiftly as possible and went back to the other area to see how it fit. Thankfully the other man was long gone so Harry didn't have to worry about being bothered by him again. The larger size was a much better fit – it defined his shape without clinging like cheap latex to his skin. He got redressed and left the changing area only to stop short at the sight of Sirius and Remus locked in an embrace about five feet away. He watched them furiously kissing for a minute then cleared his throat to get their attention when it became obvious they had no intention of stopping anytime soon.

"Harry! How'd they fit?" cried Remus in embarrassment as he broke away from a dazed looking Sirius. Harry raised an eyebrow at them and Sirius grinned back proudly.

"The smaller size was extremely tight, but the other one fits really well. Give me a minute to go pick up a few more of these and then we can check out."

When he met them at the registers a few minutes later they had straightened up their clothes and Remus' blush had receded. The obvious confirmation of their relationship soothed any remaining fears he had about them treating him differently due to his preferences and he struck up a friendly debate on quidditch as they left the store.

The rest of their time in London passed quickly and Harry ended up purchasing a large selection of t-shirts, several different vests, and multiple pairs of black tactical pants from the other shops in the area. Sirius had been curious about the pants, but when Harry showed him all the different pockets he ended up purchasing a few pairs for himself and Remus as well.

It was already one-thirty when they finally made their way back to the Leaky Cauldron. Unfortunately it was packed to the brim with the lunch crowd so they headed straight through to Diagon Alley and stopped in for lunch at a small café that had just recently opened.

After lunch they made their way to Madam Malkin's so that Harry could purchase some school robes and have the clothes he had already purchased altered to suit his new form.

"One moment, dears! Have a look around the shop." Madam Malkin called out from where she was measuring an old man for a set of deep crimson robes.

Sirius and Remus follow him as he browses through the multitude of robes offered. He finally finds a set he liked tucked away in the far corner. They were plain black with no shape, but according to the advert next to them they had built-in wand holsters, and hidden pockets which were under the feather light charm – some of the pockets had also been made bottomless or bigger on the inside. The material was layered with a number of protection charms against spells, potions accidents, and a number of things he is sure he'll never need to test. The biggest advantage was that they had a special charm on them so that they could be styled into any design the purchaser preferred.

Madam Malkin came bustling over as Harry pulled down eight sets of the specialty robes.

"Excellent choice! Excellent choice! Those robes contain a fascinating bit of magic, it's unfortunate that they are too often overlooked due to their initial shape. No matter, I believe they will suit you perfectly Mr. Potter."

"Thank you Madam. I will need to get these styled and fitted, and I would also like to request some alterations to my Muggle wardrobe."

"Come over to the sitting area and show me exactly what you need. After that I'll just need to measure you to ensure your robes fit properly." The motherly woman locked the doors so they wouldn't be disturbed and led them to a small parlor through the doorway behind the counter.

"Now then Mr. Potter, where would you like to start?"

"I have come into my creature inheritance and need to have my wardrobe altered so that I can wear it comfortably."

"That will be no problem at all. I get at least six students a year making the same request so I am quite experienced with it." She pulled a roll of parchment out of her robes. "What is your inheritance and what changes will you need?"

"I have come into an Ichobas inheritance. I need all some means of being able to pull out and retract my wings comfortably without pain from pushing through the fabric or the constant worry or tearing everything I own to shreds. They will also need to have an opening for my tail."

"That can be managed quite easily. Would you like any other alterations made to them?"

"I would like to have some protection spells woven into them if you could. Sort of like the ones on the robes I selected."

"That will take some time, but it is possible. Now what style would you like me to transform your robes into?"

"Hmmm…are you familiar with different muggle styles?"

"Oh yes. Fashion is fashion no matter whether it's muggle or magical." She proclaimed causing Harry to smile slightly.

"Well then, I would like them to look like a muggle trench coat."

"Marvelous! I've not had such an interesting request in years, and I know that style shall suit you very well." Harry blushed again and wondered if there was a spell to prevent him from doing so. It would be very handy considering how often he found his cheeks flushing.

"I recommend you pick out a wardrobe to store everything in since it is such a large order. Most of them shrink down very easily and will eliminate the hassle of moving your clothes whenever you need to travel somewhere – including Hogwarts. You just place the shrunken wardrobe where you want it, then say the incantation and wait for it to expand."

"That sounds good. The design doesn't matter much to me, so just pick out one you think will work and add it to the bill."

"I will make sure to pick out the perfect one for you. Now if you'll just follow me back out into the main area of the shop I need to take your measurements – including your wings and tail."

Harry soon found himself standing shirtless on the small stool with his wings out while the enchanted tape measure worked its way around his body. Thankfully the process didn't last very long and he was exiting the shop with Madam Malkin's promise to owl it to him when it was ready ringing in his ears.

They quickly made their way to Ollivander's shop where the shopkeeper was more than happy to help them.

"Ahh, Mr. Potter! To what do I owe this most unexpected visit?"

"Hello, Mr. Ollivander. I was hoping you could help me with something actually. My power has drastically increased in the years since I first purchased my wand, and I actually no longer need to use my wand at all anymore. The problem is that there are still slips in my control, and I was wondering if you would be able to craft something discreet that will help me harness my magic without having to be used as a focus for it."

"Of course dear boy! Did you have anything specific in mind?"

"Well I was hoping for a pair of leather cuffs, that way my hands would be free."

"Absolutely! If I may ask, what type of creature inheritance have you had?"

"Ichobas."

"Hmm, this means you are now able to harness the ambient magic of objects around you as well as nature itself."

"Really? I didn't realize that."

"It is one of the many advantages to your inheritance. I confess I have always had an extreme fascination with creature inheritances which has resulted in me being very well educated in all of the different inheritances. Yes, this project shall be a very thrilling challenge indeed."

"I am glad that you are able to do it, I would trust no one more."

"Oh, you're going to make this old man tear up and then I'll never get anything done. Now this order might take a few days for me to craft and double check, so I will owl them to you when they are finished."

"If you don't mind sir, I actually have an order placed with Madam Malkin as well that she is going to send me when it is complete – would you please enclose them in the same shipment so that Hedwig doesn't get overworked?"

"Sure, that's no problem at all. I'll ask her when she expects your order to be ready at our weekly poker game tonight."

"Poker?"

"Muggle game – terribly fascinating. Run along now and enjoy the rest of your afternoon, I'll get to work on your order right away."

His order ended up taking longer than expected so he had to resort to tucking his tail into his pants again last night. He was relieved they had arrived before he had to attend his classes because it would have been extremely painful to sit on his tail for the duration of his lessons. Cushioning charms had helped the night before, but it was uncomfortable and his tail was still smarting from it this morning.

The wardrobe finally finished expanding to its proper size and Harry opened it to find a brown package with a note attached to it sitting in the bottom.

Harry,

I have included a pair of boots for you as a gift.

The soles are charmed to help you draw the natural magic out of the earth and help ground you if you need to do any difficult or powerful magic.

Madam Malkin helped me select the style so that it would match your clothes and they are layered with the same protective magic.

As added protection I have included an emergency portkey in the heels.

To activate it just click your heels together three times and call out your destination.

It has been a pleasure and we hope you are pleased with your purchases.

Ollivander

Harry opened the package and pulled out a pair of black combat boots that perfectly complimented his new wardrobe. He ran his hands over the soft leather before setting them down and pulling out what he wanted to wear for the day.

When he finally left his room fifteen minutes later he was wearing one of the dark emerald henleys underneath a black vest and one of his new school robes modeled after a trench coat hanging open over it. His tactical pants, combat boots, and wrist cuffs completed the ensemble. Malfoy was in the common room when Harry went down and Harry got a small thrill from seeing the previously pompous pureblood standing slack-jawed at Harry's new look. Harry gave him a small smirk and felt an unfamiliar pleasant shiver course through him when Draco returned it. He exited the common room before he could give in to the need to go to Draco.

He was passing Snape's office when an idea occurred to him and he glanced around to make sure he wasn't seen as he snuck inside. He knew Snape's wards would let him know that someone had accessed his office, but he didn't bother with stopping them because he had no intention of doing anything untoward. He went over to Snape's parchment littered desk and cleared off a small spot that would be immediately obvious to his head of house. He pulled the snitch he had been chasing when he knocked Snape down out of his pocket and left it on his desk then left the office.

As he made his way to the great hall for breakfast with his tail swishing lazily behind him he wondered if Snape would see it for the apology it was.

A/N: I had Connor Temple from Primeval in mind when I decided on Harry's wardrobe. I originally planned for this chapter to go a different way, but the shopping scene kind of got away from me and ended up taking over.
