"We never thought it would be that bad" Cole gasped at the sight, Zane held his head in shame.
"You shouldnt feel regret though... He deserved it" Kai said smiling trying to cheer him up. Zane slightly smiled in return before the scene flurried to the next shot in the barn, the three had beds made out of hay and blankets they got from home.
The sun shone through the window with the three sharing a homemade bed to beat the cold.
"Come on Zane" the teenager stumbled out of the bed and towards his brother. The two went down the ladder and started to collect the different materials to see what they had to deal with, they had empty storage containers where they would put the animals.
"I guess we should start hunting, and collecting for a fire, me and Ally started to see flurries." Zane nodded headed out of the building and grabbing the axe that they found bared inside the log. He started to chop different branches and trees until he heard the small cry.
"Zak help!" Ally cried, Zak was always her favorite since Zane was either at work, school, or to frustrated to deal with her.
"Zane can you help?" Zak asked as he passed him in the 'kitchen'. He looked up at the small girl in her blue nightgown holding her stuffed monkey.
"You need help?" Zane asked, she nodded quickly making Zane sigh as he held his arms up. She slowly climbed down, knowing the feeling that if she fell she would be caught.
"Thank you" she said running over to Zak with Zane trotting behind her.
"Zane do you have the firewood?" Zak asked.
"Yeah, what about the food?" Zane questioned.
"I was never a good cook" Zak chuckled "If me and Ally gather the food will you start the fire?" Zak asked.
"Yeah sure" the two headed off leaving a worried Zane to start the fire, even though he himself wasn't good with flames.
The scene flashed to later that day when they returned.
"I have to go to work" Zane simply said standing from his fire and passing the small knife to Zak without Ally noticing.
"What if the... Dogs come?" Zak asked referring to wolfs for Ally.
"Get into the stables... I found a gun in the shed" he whispered the last part so Ally wouldn't object as he headed out the door and towards his job.
The scene changed back again to the market places where Zane was walking around with the money he got, it was few but anything to feed his family. Bread, good enough, he gave the money to the merchant and took the food. By this time he had collected some vegetables and even an extra blanket that was a few dollars, he was low on cash. He turned to the empty cart filled with a bag of mixed foods. He hesitated staring at the empty cart but after a moment he took the food and walked off sneaking it under his shirt.
They needed to eat, and he didn't need the bag of food, he wasn't struggling like they were.
"You stole?" Jay asked.
"We needed it, but... It seemed like the right thing to do at the time" he held his head in shame again.
"It's all in the past now" Cole said calmly, the two having a large connection. Zane smiled paying attention back to his memories.
"Here" Zane said passing the food to his sibling.
"Where did you get this?" he asked.
"I bought it" Zane replied not wanting to say the truth.
"All this?" he said surprised
"Yeah, where's Ally?" Zane asked spinning around the barn to look for her.
"In the 'room'" he put quotations over the room. "We found some crayons in the shed along with the..." he stopped motioning to the gun he put in the corner. Zane headed up the ladder to see Ally decorating the walls with pink flowers.
"Your a very good drawer" he complimented, making her smile.
"Thanks" she said, the teen sat next to her grabbing a blue crayon and started to color along with her.
"What are you drawing?" he asked.
"Our family" she said revealing the five stick people. "When are we going to see them again?" she asked.
"Soon" she leaned against Zane while he drew.
"Your a really good drawer" Nya replied "Why don't you ever do it anymore?" he stared back at the picture.
"I'm not as good as before" he replied "It's for kids anyway"
