Chapter 3: Easter

Pocahontas sat dutifully at her desk and wrote out all of the invitations. This year, she and John Ralph have been asked to host the Easter party for all of her princess friends and their families. Pocahontas had planned everything for weeks; she purchased many colored eggs for the kids to find, she bought a bunny suit for John Smith to dress up in and surprise the kids with a visit from the Easter bunny, outdoor sports and such for the adults, and she had bought so many decorations that it took so many weeks just to hang them all. John Ralph burst through the door carrying the groceries Pocahontas had asked him to purchase for the party.

"I believe I've gotten everything dear." John Ralph stated as he set the bags down on the table.

"Thank you very much. Would you mind coming over here and telling me what you think of the invitations?" John Ralph huffed under his breath but complied and walked over to her desk and peeked at the invitations. The one Pocahontas held up for him read…

Dear Friends,

You are invited to attend the Easter party hosted by Pocahontas and John Ralph on April 20th. There will be an Easter Egg Hunt for the children attending along with a visit from the Easter Bunny. There will also be snacks and refreshments provided along with outdoor sports such as badminton, horseshoes, volleyball, and before dusk, there will be a baseball game for all in attendance. Please bring along clothes you don't mind getting dirty and that you can play in. Hope to see you there.

Sincerely,

Pocahontas and John Ralph

"It looks terrific darling. Have you gotten everything you need for the party now or is there something missing?" John Ralph asked.

Pocahontas looked around the house and then she got up and walked to the backyard, scrutinizing every last detail. When she completed her last minute inspection, she returned joyfully to her husband and said, "Everything is perfect. Now all we have to do is get these invitations sent out so everyone will know when to come."

"Do you really think we will be able to play a baseball game? Most of those girls have no pants in their possession and I don't have faith that any of them would be willing to get down and dirty."

"Don't worry John. Everything will be perfect and I'm feeling confident that everyone will have a good time." Pocahontas smiled. After that, she took the invitations out and mailed them to her closest friends.

April 19th came quicker than Pocahontas or John Ralph could think. Pocahontas ran frantically from room to room, setting up decorations and straightening everything for her guests. John Ralph helped as best as he could but in the end, he proved unhelpful. The doorbell rang and John Ralph took the liberty of answering the door. First to arrive was Milo and Kida, who had become very good friends with Pocahontas and John Ralph.

"Milo, Kida, it's so good to see you two again." John Ralph greeted as he hugged each of them and invited them inside. Pocahontas found a few minutes in between her last minute tweaking. She greeted them as well and invited them to take a seat in the dining room for lunch and offered them a drink. Later, Tiana and Naveen arrived. They were also seated at the dining room next to Milo and Kida.

"Hello again Kida, it's so nice to see you." Tiana said.

"Yes, it is very nice to see you again. Are you looking forward to the baseball game?"

"You plan on playing?" Tiana asked, a bit surprised.

"…I was under the impression that we would all play."

"I only meant that I hadn't pegged you as a sporty girl." Tiana said.

Snow, David, Emma, Thomas, Cinderella, and Alexandra arrived together. They each hugged John Ralph and Pocahontas, except for Emma and Alexandra; they had already run inside and into the dining room.

"Sorry about that. Emma just likes food." Snow apologized.

"It's alright. She's always welcome in our home." Pocahontas said.

Shortly after that group disappeared into the dining room, Aurora and Phillip arrived.

"Aurora, Snow White told me all about your wonderful news. How far along are you?" Pocahontas asked.

"5 months."

"That is so exciting. When are you expecting?"

"It will be right around August. Everyone will meet our son on Labor Day." Phillip interjected.

"You're having a little boy? That is so wonderful. Congratulations to the both of you. Have you picked out a name for him yet?" John Ralph said.

"We thought about using one of our father's names but we couldn't agree on which one. So we decided to name him Michael instead." Aurora said.

"I think that's a very lovely name. Congratulations again." Pocahontas. Soon, everyone else; Flynn, Rapunzel, Belle, Adam, Aladdin, Jasmine, Esmerelda, Phoebus, Zepher, Ariel, Eric, Melody, Mulan, Shang, Meg, and Hercules finally arrived and the party officially began. John Smith had greeted John Ralph and Pocahontas for Easter earlier that week and in their desperation for an Easter Bunny, John Smith agreed to do it. Pocahontas took Emma, Alexandra, Melody, and Zepher, into the backyard after a quick lunch. The adults poured themselves a drink and relaxed on the patio overseeing the kids.

"Okay kids, since there are only four of you, we will let you choose one of your parents to be on your team." Pocahontas began. Melody chose Ariel, Zepher chose Phoebus, Emma chose David, and Alexandra chose Thomas. "Okay now that we have four teams, each team will have 5 minutes to locate as many eggs as you can. The team that gets the most eggs, will win this bucket of Easter Candy."

"Daddy, I want that Easter candy!" Emma said.

"Well then let's get searching Emma." David grabbed Emma's hand and they readied themselves to begin searching for Easter eggs.

"You can do it baby." Snow cheered from the porch with the others. Pocahontas began the search. She stood with the prize candy bucket and watched everything play out. Zepher and Phoebus found two eggs within the first minute. Zepher was so excited when he found his first egg, he high-fived Phoebus. Ariel pointed several out to Melody, while Alexandra and Emma formed a team of their own. David and Thomas eventually slumped back to their waiting wives.

"They threw you off the team didn't they?" Cinderella joked.

"They sure did. The two of them are joined at the hip. I'm surprised they didn't choose each other right out of the starting gate." David said, taking the glass of wine Snow White held for him. "Thank you sweetheart."

"Daddy, daddy we found one!" Emma screamed, holding her prize up for her parents to see.

"Good job honey, can you find another one?"

"I think I see one over here Emma!" Alexandra said.

"Where?" Emma ran off in the direction Alexandra pointed. The doorbell rang out of nowhere.

"Who could that be?" Belle asked.

"I'll be right back." John Ralph got up from his chair and went to the front door. Tarzan and Jane had arrived and they brought along with them, three unfamiliar guests. "Why hello Tarzan, Jane, it's so nice to see you."

"So sorry we're late John Ralph." Jane apologized.

"That's not a problem. Who are these other guests you brought with you?"

"We just met them recently." Tarzan said. "This is Kristoff, Anna, and Elsa." The three of them waved but they still came off a bit out of place and nervous. "They didn't have any plans for today so we invited them along if that was okay."

"It's absolutely fine. It's very nice to meet all of you. My name is John Ralph, you can call me either John or Ralph, welcome to my home. My wife is in the backyard with the kids and there are plenty of friends that would like to meet you as well. So come on in, make yourselves at home." John Ralph shook each of their hands and lead them to the back patio. Every head turned at the sound of the opening door and greeted Tarzan and Jane. "Everyone, this is Tarzan and Jane's new friends. Why don't you all introduce yourselves because I don't want to mess up your names."

"I'm Elsa."

"Anna."

"Kristoff."

"Well, this is everyone else. Over here is Prince Adam and Princess Belle, Mulan and Shang, Prince Thomas and Princess Cinderella and their daughter Alexandra is out there picking Easter eggs, Prince David and Princess Snow White and their daughter Emma is with Alexandra, Prince Eric and his wife Princess Ariel is out there with their daughter Melody, Esmerelda and her husband Phoebus with their son Zepher, Aladdin and Jasmine, Flynn and Rapunzel, Naveen and Tiana, Milo and Kida, and last but not least Meg and Hercules. And my wife is over there, sweetheart, come here for a second."

Pocahontas walked over to John Ralph, wrapping her free arm around his waist while his arm rested lovingly on her shoulder. "This is my wife Pocahontas."

"Hello. Welcome to our home." Pocahontas said.

"Hi. This is my husband Kristoff and my sister Elsa and I'm Anna." Anna said, shaking Pocahontas's hand.

"The kids are finishing up an egg hunt but after that, there will be a baseball game and then some outdoor games before the end of the night." Pocahontas said.

"Baseball? I'm afraid we don't have anything appropriate to wear for that game." Elsa said.

"That's quite alright. You can borrow something of mine. Why don't we designate team captains while the kids are finishing up and then whoever is left can watch the kids." John Ralph said.

"Since you are the hosts, why don't you two be captains?" Eric suggested.

"And we can play Princes against Princesses." Aladdin suggested.

"I like that idea, who's up for a battle of the sexes?" Esmerelda asked. Everyone agreed and cheered at the thrill of the upcoming game.

"Time's up kids." Pocahontas called. "Bring your Easter baskets over here and I'll count your eggs." The parents made their way back to their spouses and were filled in on the details of the upcoming baseball game. Pocahontas took the four baskets and counted them one by one with each child looking on anxiously. "The one with the most eggs is this pink basket, with ten eggs. So the winner is Melody." Pocahontas handed her the basket of candy and gave Melody a congratulatory hug. Before she took one piece, Melody handed each of the other kids a piece of candy.

"Okay, men line up on one side, women on the other and let's choose teams." John Ralph said, lining up. He went over to John Smith who was still in the Easter Bunny costume. "You can go behind the house and take off that costume now. But I suggest you wave to the kids or do something cute first."

"It is very hot in this suit Ralph." John Smith said.

"Then make it quick and be back here if you want to play." John Smith snuck around behind the house and ditched the hot bunny suit. After he took a moment to compose himself, he made his way through the house, to seem to the kids that he had just arrived, and joined the other men in the line.

For his team, John Ralph selected; Shang, Aladdin, Tarzan, Kristoff, Eric, Adam, Thomas, and David. For her team, Pocahontas selected; Aurora, Kida, Esmerelda, Anna, Rapunzel, Tiana, Meg, and Snow White. Elsa and John Smith ended up sitting next to one another and got acquainted. The rest of the party noticed. The four kids picked up the kids horseshoes and threw them back and forth. Meanwhile, the others formed teams for volleyball. First to bat was John Ralph with Rapunzel pitching. Rapunzel wound her arm and let the ball go just at her thigh. The ball went straight down the plate and John Ralph took the swing. He managed to get a piece of the ball and hit it back behind the foul line.

Elsa and John Smith decided to referee the game instead of sitting and just talking. Elsa stood on the field with the women while John Smith sat on the sidelines with the rest of John Ralph's team.

"Foul ball, strike one." Elsa called. Rapunzel took the next pitch; she wound her arm and released the ball again, this time the ball went a bit too far to the left but John Ralph hit it. The ball rolled toward Tiana in the shortstop position. She picked the ball up in her glove and fired it to Snow White on first base. John Ralph's foot touched the base just as the ball landed in Snow's hand. "Safe." Elsa called.

"Good play Ralph." Smith called from the sidelines. Aladdin and Tarzan clapped for their first player on base. Shang was up next. He took a couple practice swings before taking his place at the homeplate. Rapunzel again wound her arm for the pitch, released the ball, and Shang swung but missed the ball.

"Strike one." Elsa called out. Rapunzel made another pitch, and Shang missed again. "Strike two." Elsa called out, holding up two fingers for Anna, Meg, Aurora, and Kida in the outfield. Rapunzel pitched one more but Shang missed that one as well. "Strike three, batter out, one out." Elsa called.

Up next was Aladdin. He also took a few practice swings before taking his place at the plate. When Rapunzel threw the pitch, Aladdin managed to hit it out to Anna in the outfield. Anna caught the ball in her mit and threw it to Pocahontas at second base. Pocahontas caught it and tagged John Ralph on the leg as he attempted to slide into second base.

"You're out." Elsa called. "That's three outs. Switch sides."

Pocahontas offered her hand to her husband and helped him to his feet. He pulled her into his arms and kissed her. "Great play sweetheart."

"Thank you." Pocahontas turned to Anna who was coming in from the outfield. "That was a great catch Anna."

"Thank you so much. I haven't played baseball that much but it seems really fun." Anna said. Elsa also came over to congratulate her sister on a job well done. Eric took Rapunzel's place at the pitcher's mound with Tarzan as the catcher. John Ralph took shortstop, Shang at first base, Thomas at second base, and Aladdin, David, Kristoff, and Adam in the outfield. Up to bat first was Pocahontas. Eric charged his pitch, threw the ball, and Pocahontas hit the ball up the foul line but still in play. Ralph scooped the ball and threw to Shang. Shang caught the ball and tagged Pocahontas.

"First out." Smith called out.

"That's okay honey. Shake that one off." Ralph coached from third base.

"Cheer for your own team Ralph!" Phoebus called from the audience. The volleyball game of Belle, Cinderella, Phoebus, Flynn, Milo, and Jane versus Mulan, Ariel, Jasmine, Naveen, Hercules, and Philip ended. Belle and her team almost one by one point but Hercules made a spike on Milo that he couldn't get and therefore Mulan's team won with 21 points to 20. "Come on baby, you can do it!" Phoebus called to Esmerelda.

Eric glanced at Ariel and Melody in the audience and waved before throwing the next pitch for Aurora. Aurora just missed it. "Eye on the ball sweetie. Focus, you can do it." Philip cheered. "But take it easy on the running."

"You know maybe we should substitute for her running." Eric suggested. "We don't want her overexerting herself over a game."

"Why can't she play?" Elsa asked Kida.

"She's pregnant."

"Maybe Elsa could step in and bat for her?" Tiana suggested.

"Oh no, I couldn't possibly." Elsa said.

"She's right, officials can't substitute. Elsa, choose somebody from the audience to bat for Aurora." Ralph said.

Elsa looked amongst the faces of the wives; Belle was quietly reading but sneaking glances at Adam in the outfield. Cinderella was eagerly looking on like she wanted to play while Jane was sipping from her champagne glass. Elsa figured someone who had been drinking is not the best person for a game. Mulan was preoccupied with Shang, Ariel was busy with Melody, and Jasmine was nowhere to be seen. "I choose Cinderella to substitute."

"Alright!" Cinderella cheered. Cinderella made her way down to Aurora's position. Aurora surrendered the bat to Cinderella and went to sit down.

"Focus baby, you got this." Thomas called from second base.

"How about you focus on the game and not your wife." Aladdin scolded Thomas. Eric pitched to Tarzan but Cinderella hit it out to Adam. Adam caught the ball but dropped it. Cinderella made it to first base.

"That was a good play baby. Nice job, good hit." Thomas cheered.

"Still only one out." Smith called, signaling the outfielders. Up next was Kida. She took a couple practice swings and readied herself at the plate. Eric pitched the ball, Kida swung, and hit a ground ball out to David. David scooped the ball and threw it to Thomas. Thomas was not able to tag Cinderella at second base and Kida was also safe at first base. "Two runners, one out."

"Did you not tag your wife Thomas? You better not throw this game." Eric said.

"That's his wife though. What he does in this game he may pay for later at home." Kristoff joked.

"Exactly Kristoff." Thomas said. "Let's get back to the game." He playfully slapped Cinderella while she stood on second base. When she looked at him angrily, he flashed her his charming smile, which she couldn't help but smile back at.

Up to bat next was Esmerelda. Phoebus and Zepher cheered wildly for her as Eric pitched the ball. Esmerelda just missed the ball. "Strike one."Smith said.

"It's okay honey. You'll get the next one." Phoebus cheered.

"Go Momma!" Zepher cheered. Esmerelda took another practice swing before Eric's next pitch. This time, the bat and the ball connected and Esmerelda managed to hit the ball out to Kristoff. He caught the ball and attempted to throw it back to Thomas to tag Cinderella out as she tried to run back to second base. When going for the catch, Thomas missed it. It rolled past him over to Eric but Cinderella stole third base. She slid into it just before Eric picked it up.

"Safe." Smith called. The girls cheered from the sidelines.

"Thomas! What are you doing?" Eric yelled.

"Thomas, she's just your wife. You are allowed to get your wife." Shang said.

"Hey, she is still a princess." Thomas defended.

"Not on the battlefield my friend." David called from the outfield. "You just have to play for your team."

"John Ralph got taken out by his wife, you don't hear him complaining about it." Shang joked. The others started laughing.

"Or Pocahontas giving him grief about it either." Aladdin added.

"Let's get back to the game boys." Cinderella said, hands on her hips. Her breath still came fast after that last run but she smiled through it and readied herself to run home.

"Three runners, one out. If I were you boys, I'd pick it up a little bit." Smith said.

"We didn't need that last comment Smith, thank you." Eric said. Elsa however, found that statement quite humorous. Up next was Anna. Eric threw the pitch, Anna swung but she only got a piece of it.

"Foul ball, strike one." Smith called out.

"You can do it Anna." Elsa encouraged.

"Just go for it baby." Kristoff called from the outfield. It may have been because he was new but he did not receive one dirty look for that one.

"Come on Anna!" Elsa shouted. Eric threw the next pitch, Anna got another piece of it but hit another foul ball.

"Foul ball, strike two." Smith shouted. Eric pitched the next ball, but this time Anna hit a ground ball. It rolled right passed Eric, over to Ralph at shortstop. Ralph scooped the ball and fired it to Tarzan. Cinderella went for the slide and her leg slide onto home plate just as Tarzan tapped it. Smith grunted a little bit before he said, "Safe."

"What?!" Ralph shouted from third base. "Unbelievable."

"Soak it in boys, these princesses mean business." Cinderella said, dusting herself off.

"Way to go Cinderella! Yeah, you go girl!" Snow White screamed. They played three more innings before the sky got too dark to see the ball. The women's team was ahead by one run; the men managed to get a two runs before Kida caught the final out. But the girls made a comeback when Cinderella came up to bat again. All of the baseball players wiped some sweat from their foreheads and grabbed a bottle of water from Pocahontas's cooler. Pocahontas wrapped herself around John Ralph's waist and he in turn kissed her hair.

"Do you think everyone had a good time?" Pocahontas asked.

"I think everyone had a lot of fun today. We host a good party, don't you think?" Ralph said.

"Well the night isn't over yet." She said to Ralph. Then to everyone else, "Why don't we head inside for some end of the night drinks. And there will be lots of sweets and candy for the kids."

"Candy!" Emma and Alexandra screamed joyfully. The kids ran full speed into the house, while the adults grabbed their spouse and meandered in the yard. In about another half hour, everyone was seated around the living room; Aladdin sat Indian-style on the floor with Jasmine in his lap, and Adam and Belle cuddled in front of the couch with their drinks and a book. Everyone else took up the couches in the gigantic living room. Pocahontas stood up with her glass.

"Here's a toast to all of my wonderful friends and their amazing skills at baseball." The women cheered and the men just chuckled under their breath. "And I would also like to say that it was great getting to know Anna, Kristoff, and Elsa. Here's a toast to our new friends, let's hope they intend to come back for more holiday celebrations. Cheers." A symphony of clinking glasses echoed, creating a gorgeous tranquility in the living room.

Anna stood and raised her glass as well. "And on behalf of the three of us, we would like to thank you for accepting us as friends and into your home for some good holiday fun. Tarzan, Jane, we're very glad we met you and we're all happy to call you friends. Cheers to new friends."

"Cheers." The symphony of glasses sounded once more.

"Happy Easter everyone!" Jasmine shouted.

"Happy Easter!"
