Homework can be quite the party pooper, amirite?
I DO NOT own Rise of the Guardians.
Chapter 13 – The Journey From One to Another
An eyebrow rose on Jack's face as he looked at all of the Nightmare's sheepish and embarrassed faces. "Really?" His unamused and quite disappointed expression was daring all of the Nightmares to look away in shame. "Making a nightmare that has me running all over the place worrying all for nothing is one thing. But this," The horses recoiled as the little Pitch in Jack's arms took a bit of the boy's sweater and stuffed it into his chubby mouth. "This was his plan!?"
It didn't take long for the frost spirit to make the constructed nightmare sand horses to eventually spill the beans. After all, the wellbeing of their master hung in the balance. With many wild gestures and incredibly exaggerated face expressions, Jack eventually got the general message of what the horses were saying.
Why is that thing crashing its hoof against its head?
Is it okay?
Oh, it was just trying to say "mind".
Cradling?
Oh, that's a baby.
Okay...
Haha, that was a really good impression of Father Time.
Wait, are those… clock hands?
…that horse is seriously not okay.
…wait…
…he did WHAT!?
While one hand held the infant of fear, the other was repeatedly hitting Jack's face to the sheer stupidity of what was going on. "Okay, let me get this straight. Pitch decided that it was a brilliant idea to get freaking everyone turned into little kids and then the plan backfired on him with that sneaky Father Time?" The horses nodded. Although feeling quite embarrassed, they were glad that the time they used to play that crazy game of charades was at least worth something.
Jack snorted as he turned his attention to the little Pitch that was slowly chewing up his sweater. "Oh you little piece of reindeer poop, what has gone through your tiny mind?" He asked rather softly. The young Pitch answered by spitting out all of the fabric that had previously been in his mouth and then smiling with the brightest and most sincerest smile the frost spirit had ever seen on the Boogeyman. With a sigh and determined eyes, he looked towards where the opening of the lair was. "I'm going to go with my original plan and send him to Jamie's place so he can be taken care of. After, I'm going to go look for Father Time and beat all of the minutes, hours, and seconds out of that old man. All he could've said was 'no' instead of putting more weight on me like this!"
And with that, he took off, the power of the wind sweeping him off of his feet and into the bright sky. The Nightmares looked on with longing eyes. Oh, how they wish their master was back sooner. What should they do now?
Jamie could still feel the pure joy his sister felt when he said he was going to bring her friends to her soon. It was as if it had just stuck to him just so it could brighten his day. For some reason, it worked. Sure, she can be annoying sometimes, but Sophie was still family and family was supposed to help each other out with things, even if it was only really bringing the little Guardians to her room for another playdate.
Smiling to himself, he approached the beady eyed Guardians, who by now have gone back to their usual ways of occasional laughter and tears. Wow, they really do have short attention spans! "Hey, you guys, guess what!" He said in an excited whisper. Little North was the closest to him at the time, and so whipped his head around to face Jamie almost immediately. Nobody else, however, paid attention to him. "Haha, let's try that one more time." Jamie took a deep breath, then said in a louder voice, "Guys! Guess what!"
North giggled and crawled closer to the human boy. Jamie groaned as he watched Tooth continue to flutter around as if all was well in the world and Sandy just sitting on the boy's bed, making little pictures with dream sand to amuse himself. Bunny, who was full of energy and restless legs, he bounded from wall to wall, table to bed, hopping and speeding along with great vigour.
Jamie knew it was cruel, but he almost wished that they were crying again, because it was so much simpler to handle whining and tears rather than overly distracted toddlers with supernatural abilities.
"Guys, guys!" He said, waving his arms around, trying to catch the youngsters' attention. They didn't stop.
The boy could feel his temper shorten. "GUYS!"
Tiny heads whipped around, and suddenly all noise were ceased. It had suddenly become eerily quiet. Jamie nodded. This was more like it!
"So, the reason why I've called of your attention right now is because I thought we could move over to my little sister's room so she could have some more fun with you guys." Little Tooth hovered in the air, a confused look growing on her face. "I mean, Sophie." Jamie clarified. "You know, the blonde short girl that really likes Bunny?" The aforementioned critter stood up on his hind legs and puffed his chest. He was going to show the others that he was indeed the favourite. Little Sandy made an "Ohhhh" impression, and quickly nodded his little head. North did the same.
"Okay, it's settled then!" A smile grew on Jamie's face, his temper slowly tapering off. "Let's be off!" With a daring grin, the boy latched his hand onto the door knob and promptly opened it, allowing the little Guardians through. One by one, they stumbled on through the doorway.
The distance from Jamie's room to Sophie's room wasn't at all that far, which was good. What wasn't good though was the fact that the upstairs level had an opening of space between his room and his sister's, meaning that if his mother were to ever pass by the stairs to the upper floor and looked up, she would've saw Jamie doing a wild dance of "protecting the baby ducklings from falling". Jamie never thought there would be day when he thought that walking to his little sister's room would have to so hard and stealthily done.
Once all the little ones were ushered out of the room, Jamie looked around. No sign of Mom anywhere… the coast is clear. And so, as quietly as he could, he tiptoed to a couple of steps in front of the Guardians, who were now wide eyed with wonder. This was a completely different place that they have never been before! What a great place for exploration and fun!
Jamie knew that he didn't really have to account for how much noise the kids were making into whether his mother would notice them or not. She didn't believe in any of the Guardians in the first place, how were she supposed to believe in them now? He watched the young ones carefully as he slowly walked backwards towards Sophie's room. His arms were outstretched in front of him should anybody veer off course and he would have to catch them.
Little North slowly crawled onwards, his bright and youthful eyes of wonder taking in every inch of new space this place had to offer. There was a stairwell, the carpet he was currently crawling on, some things to keep them all safe from falling over the edge… it looked wonderful! Tooth thought the very same thing as she flitted around quickly from one place to another, as fast as a hummingbird would. Sandy, gently floated along behind everyone, just glad to be a part of such a great movement. The walk was going nice a slow, just enough for him to enjoy the new scenery. The room they were in before was getting a bit cramped up and old after all.
Bunny, however, thought they were going a bit too slowly. With every step the rest of the group took, he already bounded a great leap, but then had to wait a couple of seconds for the rest of them to catch up. Why couldn't they be as fast as him? Well, Tooth was pretty darn fast if she wanted to be, but that was besides the point. She was only looking around at stuff anyways. It was too slow for his liking.
Suddenly, the little Easter Bunny thought it was a great idea to just bound ahead of Jamie, and show him who was boss. Just because he was a whole lot smaller than the boy didn't mean that he was slower than him! With an evil grin on his face and flashing daredevil eyes, he gave a little hop in the air and then sped off right between Jamie's legs.
"Huh!?" Jamie could not believe his eyes as he watched the little ball of fuzz comically leave a trail of dust in the air between his legs. Turning around, he saw the bunny bound off. "Hey, Bunny! Where do you think you're going!?" Giggling, the Easter Bunny dared to look behind him and blow a raspberry in his caretaker's face. This was going by much better!
In almost no time at all, Bunny had reached Sophie's bedroom door. Skidding to a stop, he started to bang on the door with one of his paws as he scratched at the wood with the other. Jamie let out a breath of relief. At least he made it safely.
And then came the rampage.
Excited by Bunny's sudden speed on foot, the other little ones thought it was a great idea to also follow suit! And sure enough, Jamie saw a flash of green go past one side of his head and a trace of sparkling yellow on the other. North, although slow, tried to catch up to the rest of his friends by hoisting himself up onto his little stubby feet, then wobbled on over to the other side to the door.
"Wait, what!?" Jamie didn't even have a second to comprehend what was happening until he saw (almost) everyone at the door of his little sister's room, banging on the wood none too softly. With a sigh, he picked up the still-struggling North with ease as he walked over to the others. Then, with big sarcastic movements, he signaled over the door knob with grand gestures, then, with an unamused face, opened the door with one movement. The young one's eyes sparkled as if they had just seen a magic show, and clapped joyfully accordingly.
The boy rolled his eyes, but smiled at the now calmer little Guardians as he ushered them all into Sophie's room. "Bunny!" He heard a cry come from inside. Bunny must've reached her first then, I guess. And with a triumphant smile, he let baby North down and quietly closed the door. He game the room a once over as he saw his little sister's face brighten with joy as all her friends had suddenly decided to join her again.
Jamie couldn't help but have a grin spread across his face.
Meanwhile, Jack was tapping at Jamie's window, wondering where the heck Jamie and the Guardians went. He wasn't in his bedroom, so where else could he be? "Please don't tell me he had to go to the washroom and everyone else followed him…!" He mumbled to himself quietly. Pitch cooed.
And yet again, another short-ish chapter. What a letdown in after almost a month delay. I'm so sorry for keeping you all waiting! The thing is that my homework load has been building up again, and one of them was to make a story. I had to write a whole new different storyline while I was gone, so don't you go thinking I went this whole time without writing. Oh, I was writing, and I was writing until the end of days!
BUT, that story is now complete, and so it is now time to work on this one! I'm afraid that my work progress for this story might become a tad bit slower now due to upcoming homework tests that are going to stress me out. Things that lead up to the winter break are never nice. I will still try my best to stick to the one chapter a week time frame. And if not, then it will hopefully be a one chapter per two weeks. I can't go making any promises anymore, however, despite me hoping that I would finish at least one of my stories by the end of this year. I don't know if I'll ever be able to make it to that goal now.
Oh well! That's okay. As long as you guys still enjoy reading it, I think I'll be okay.
THANK YOU SO MUCH to the following!

I'm happy to hear that you think the length of the chapters is fine for now, since I don't seem to be able to make any longer ones any time soon. Sorry! And yes, sleep can do wonders for you and your body (or at least that's what my parents tell me. Too bad I never actually sleep). :D
I hope I did not forget anyone. Thank you all so much, it really means a lot to me!
