Odette – age 15
~ooo~
"Odette, would you mind spending today with me? We'll have what you call a girl's day?" Another year has passed and I still laugh when this family tries to understand earth's sayings. Everyone is getting older and with that, feelings and actions change. Loki and Thor are getting taller and I'm stuck at 5'3. Loki is getting better with his magic and Thor is getting ever more stronger with his battle skills and strength. As for me, I'm still the same. I've gotten over my fear of flying, getting better at maneuvering through pillars and the like. Loki was even nice enough to teach me some healing spells too! Thor taught me how to handle a dagger for protection. Now, whenever those stupid kids at school pick on me, I have an ever better reason to fight back.
"Sure, that sounds like fun Frigga. I would love to join you." I said and Frigga smiled. Frigga and I have become more and more like a mother and daughter. Frigga would shower me in dresses, ask to pin my hair up, and go on walks together. Having so many men in the house can get rather difficult and when lonely when there isn't another female in the house to talk to. Besides, my mother never did anything with me and I was more than happy to accept Frigga as an adoptive mother.
"So, tell me, after all these years what do you think of our home?" Frigga asked as we walked towards her own personal room where she could go to be alone.
"I love it here! It's gets harder to go back home every night thinking that, that place was never really a home to me. Maybe, when I get a little bit older I can stay here with you guys?" I asked her and she smiled at me, wrapping an arm around me.
"Of course you can stay with us! Odette you changed many people in your stay here. My boys understand to be polite and good mannered to all those they meet. The servants are pleased that you try and help them with their job, the guards smile whenever you try to cheer them up. Not only them, but you have changed yourself." She explained and I gave her a skeptic look to which she laughed at.
"How have I changed?" I asked her and she gave me a skeptic look this time.
"The first time I saw you, you were this little small scared thing. The boys kept you their little secret for such a long time but when we found out you were scared. So scared of us, that I was afraid that we scared you half to death." She said as we entered her private room.
"I was scared. I was afraid that you would hate me for being here. I didn't know where I was to begin with and after I met your sons all I wanted was to keep the only friend I've ever had." I said to the woman and she handed me a long beautiful gown. The color of white birds wings with blue silk colored ribbon that tied under my breast and flowed to the floor. "Wow, it's so beautiful."
"Go on, try it on. It is for you of course." Frigga said and I rushed behind the screen to change. I threw off my clothes and slowly put on the dress. It had no sleeves and flowed to the floor freely while the blue silk ribbon tied nicely with a golden hoop to attached in the middle so it too flowed freely as well. Once I had it on I stepped out, smiling at Frigga as I twirled before her. "Oh, you look so beautiful!" She said and made me spin a bit slower before her. "The height needs to be fixed and a few other things but other than that, it looks wonderful on you."
"I love it! Thank you so much!" I said to her and gave her a hug.
"You are very much welcome. Now, sit here and allow me to do your hair. I want to get it just right when the party comes." Frigga said and patted the seat in front of the large mirror with brushes and clips and anything else a girl needs for her hair. Having Frigga do my hair is one of the very things my mother has never done. Nowadays, we hardly talk to each other. My parents and I have become distant. They work on their work and I have my own stuff to take care of.
This is my family. I feel like they always have.
"Frigga, may I ask you a question?" I asked as she brushed my hair into a beautiful shine.
"What is it dear?"
"Loki...is not your son is he?" Frigga stopped and I knew right away that it was true. Loki and I have wondered for years and he's certain but I've always been questioning. Now I know.
"How?"
"Loki knew right away. He's always known and he feels left out sort of. I kept questioning but by your answer of silence, I knew." I turned around and faced her, giving her a gentle smile. "It's alright though, he loves you all but he still feels like you favorite Thor more."
"We would never. I've always raised the boys as equals." Frigga answered and I patted her knee.
"I know you have, both you and Odin have raised wonderful stubborn boys that are my very best friends. I'm just letting you know on how Loki feels. Even his practice in magic that I know you've been teaching him, he's always been...himself." I smiled and she chuckled.
"I know what you mean. He's always been interested in magic and he's taking to it like Thor takes to being a warrior. I fear though, he'll end up just like his father."
"You mean having a huge head when he's older? Or is it being very popular with women later on?" We both laughed and she shook her head.
"They will both be heart breakers when they get older. But I fear your heart will be the one broken the most." She pinned my hair up a bit before I turned around again.
"Me? Why would my heart be broken?" I asked her and she turned my head around so she could finish.
"Because, I've seen the way he looks at you now." She said, her voice rather soft.
"Who?"
"Thor. I've seen the way he looks at you ever since he's given you that necklace. He's always watching you while your face is turned away and is smiling ever more brightly whenever you're near him. To him, when he sees you when you come, you're his light. The exact same look my husband looks at me now."
"What does this have to deal with my heart being broken?" I asked her and she sighed.
"I feel, even though you and my son are good friends, I feel like these feelings that my son has for you will only lead both of you to heartbreak. You are not of our world and many still do not know of your existence. Many might even fear your involvement to be of another kind besides befriending my sons. Trouble will come your way and I fear a darkness is creeping up on you young one." She said, her voice stern and a cold shiver ran down my spine.
"What should I do? Just, never come back? I don't even know of how I even get here, let alone how to stop it." I told her and she shook her head, resting her hands on my shoulders.
"Keep going through the days as you do now but be careful. Dark days are coming to Asgard. I can feel it in my bones." She turned me back around and finished my hair. When it was all done I was shocked at what I saw.
No longer a little girl but a beautiful woman whose grown over the years from a fragile wall flower to a thorny rose.
"Wow."
"You look as beautiful as ever Odette." she wrapped her arms around my shoulders in a hug. "Be cautious my young one. You are the only person I have ever called a daughter to. Promise me that you will be careful."
"I promise I'll be careful. Besides, I can just fly away if anything tries to harm me. Thor and Loki will protect me. You have nothing to worry about Frigga." I said to her then undid my hair from it's beautiful up-do. After I shook everything out and went behind the screen to change.
"Of course but you made that promise remember. You'll take care of yourself." I said and gently put the dress over a chair. I walked over to her and gave her another hug.
"Like I said, I promise. Nothing is going to happen Frigga." I told her and after that we talked.
Frigga and I ate fruit and something cool to drink while we had a very long talk. We talked about Asgard, Thor's upcoming birthday, and my life back on earth. I've explained more about my home and school. She seemed shocked and yet surprised when I told her that the kids at my school have felt me alone after I started to stick up for myself. They just think I'm weird now but at least they don't chase me home now. We also talked about her and how are things now that Thor and Loki are getting older. She's worried that soon they'll go off to battle and get hurt. I told her that Thor is like a brick wall that no one can knock down and Loki will just trick the enemy into giving up by his own cunning and magic while Thor has his strength and braver to help him.
We'll all growing up.
I guess...sooner or later...we all have to at some point.
But what will happen to us...if I suddenly stopped coming here?
Has this all been a dream?
If so, I never want to wake up.
After a few hours I decided to go and see where Loki and Thor were up too and Frigga said I could leave. I have her a kiss and a hug good-bye then walked out the door. After wondering around the grand halls of the palace I noticed as I was walking by the gardens that in the middle, where the grand tree sat, stood a tall woman with her back to me. For some reason I found myself walking towards her, my feet moving on their own.
"Um, excuse me, Miss? May I help you?" I asked her and I heard a wind-chime like chuckle come from her.
"Forgive me little one but I am waiting for someone. I knew if I waited here long enough, someone would come." She said but didn't turn around.
"Who are you looking for?" I asked and the woman turned around. A woman, at least two heads taller than me, dressed in a weird type dress. It was of a golden color, shimmering like liquid. Her hair, the same golden color, held up in braids then falling freely. The one thing that scared me the most was that she had no eyes. Instead of eyes, sat stars sparkling brightly.
"Why, you of course." She said and smiled at me, moving her hand so that a bench appeared out of tree roots. She sat down, patting the space beside her. I was startled and yet curious about the woman. I mean, strange things have happened to me before, why should that stop me now. Besides, I'm safe here.
Right?
"There is no need to fear me. I am one of the few you can trust Odette." She said as I sat down bedside her. "I need to speak to you for Frigga wasn't wrong about the darkness that is near."
"What do you mean?" I asked her and then she explained it all to me. The war with her brother, her people turning from the light to the dark, and how myself and two others can help her take the throne and stop her brother. She's already spoken to the other two but I am the last due to the face that I'm one of the youngest. "The darkness will come for you, there is no stopping it." She said.
"Then how do I fight it? All I can do is fly." I told her and she shook her head, taking a hold of my hands.
"You must find a way. Think of your friends you call family, fight for them. Find an inner power within yourself and that power will surprise you. Promise me and your family that you will not allow this darkness to to win. If you do, you will be trapped in whatever hell my brother has for you and there will be no escape from it." She said and I looked into her weird eyes.
"I promise." I made her that promise but I couldn't help to have this shiver run down my spine.
Something bad, very bad is going to happen.
I don't even know if I can keep that promise...
What am I going to do?
