I do not own Legends of Tomorrow, sadly. I love Cold Canary, it's my favourite ship =) I do however own this story.
Kendra was right, accepting her humanity was what at she had to do to finally beat the bloodlust but she didn't find it by herself, she found her humanity in a closed off, guarded, walled up, ice cold thief who lived by his own code.
He never thought she would break through but somehow, somewhere, seeing the battle she fought in herself over even thinking about killing Stein, she broke his walls, no she destroyed his walls so thoroughly they would never be able to stand as strongly again, and would never stand against her again. He couldn't believe after telling Mick he was an idiot for saving Ray, (even though he knew neither of them could really leave him, they would have come back, no matter how annoying and square he was Ray was a part of the team, and he took a beating for Mick so Len owed him), he goes and saves her from herself.
This friendship they built was founded on the ability to read one another, she knew that no matter what he would live in accordance with his code, no matter what and he knew she was a solider, following orders was ingrained in her until she didn't know any other way anymore. He saw the struggle she went through when asked to do something she didn't agree with, like killing Stein, but she had to follow orders, because for her it was what was needed. She saw that he struggled opening up, preferring to hang out in the background, watching and listening. She saw that slowly he was beginning to add them all to the list of people he would come back for, that he would protect, she was even proud to say that after Mick, it was her on the list.
He knew that deep down she would always protect those she loved, even if it meant sacrificing herself. She knew she should still be dead, so to her her life was worth the sacrifice, even if he disagreed and despite his cold exterior he would do the same for the people he loved, but his list was much, much smaller than hers.
She always thought that for him to be like how he was something bad most have happened when he was a child, and when she heard about how his father abused him she was just about ready to kill him but she restrained herself, knowing Len had already gotten rid of his father forever. Slowly she found out more about him, though it was more painful than pulling teeth, and she would know, she had to do that once when she was in the league.
No one understood how over the years the chased Savage how they grew closer, the assassin and the thief but they worked, somehow they worked. He, though he would never admit it, was her voice of reason, reminding her she wasn't a killer anymore, she was good, she was Sara. She was his voice of acceptance, reminding him that it was ok to be him, to care and to show people he cared. That it was ok to hid when the world got too much (in fact they hid together, getting lost in once another in hiding usually) and that real bravery was facing the world and showing them that no matter what he was true to himself and everyone, including the rest of their team, could get screwed if they didn't like that.
She loved him, all of him from Captain Cold to just plain Leonard Snart.
He loved all of her from the white canary to just plain Sara Lance, now Sara Snart.
(They talked Rip into going back to their timeline, just for a few hours so her father could give her away. It was worth putting up with the smug look on Barry Allen's face to see her so happy).
