New light
This has been done for like 3 days but for some unknown reason it would not let me upload it. So I tried again on the third day and here it is, so enjoy!
"Dear god..." I stared in horror at the sight before me, a woman lay bleeding while trying to quiet her fidgeting baby. "Shhh shhh, it's alright. Mommy's ok." I knew she was lying, the light in her eyes was dimming by the minute and her breathing was slowing; soon she was going to bleed out and die, then come back as one of those awful dead. "Listen, I don't think you should-" But my sentence was cut off as she lurched forward and grabbed my arm with a surprising bit of strength and pulled me forward until our faces were a mere inch away, her breath smelling of mint and death. "No, just listen to me. I need you to save my baby, please. She's all I've got left in this awful world, everyone else is gone. Please...don't leave her alone." I shook my arm out of her grip, a bit afraid of the wild look in her eyes, and moved back towards Slenders protective form.
"Orella I know what you are thinking, it's a bad idea." "Saving this baby is a bad idea? She'll die if we don't-" "And how do you not know that she'll stay alive if we take her? The world we live in now is too dangerous to predict." "All the more reason to take her, she needs protection from this world." I didn't let him respond to my angered words and I turned back towards the dying woman who was now struggling to keep her eyes open. "I will...I'll save your baby. But I have some questions first if you can hold on a little longer." I could tell by the way her head sort of lolled she was not doing so well but I needed to know some of these things. "How old is she?" "I-I think a year...yes a year yesterday." "Do you have anything like food or baby clothes?"
"Back of the shed...hidden panel...box of things..." "Ok ok good, now one last question. What's her name?" This one question seemed to stop her for a second and she began to cry, the tears tinged red from the blood on her face as it contorted into sadness. "Her name her name...I can't remember her name! She's my baby oh god I can't forget!" As she began to grow hysterical her baby once again began to cry and it took everything in me not to just grab her and run, I had to at least reassure the lady before she died. "Alright hey it's ok. Just relax and think for a moment." "No...no more. I just...I can't..." And with that she passed out, not quite dead but she wouldn't be waking as a living person again. "Orella we need to go now. It's getting dark out." Had I really been out that long? Time seemed to escape me whenever I was with him.
"Ok, hush baby it's ok. You're safe now." I gently picked up the slightly smaller than average baby and cradled her against my chest as any mother would, her crys turning into soft whimpers as I exited the shed of her dying mother and made my way to the back. "Hidden panel...here!" I moved away a slightly odd looking wooden panel and pulled out a quiet hefty box of baby clothes, food, and even a harness. "Alright lets use this, hows that sound?" I quickly strapped on the harness and wrapped the now curious infant before placing her in and grabbing the box. "Let me." I smirked as Slender quietly picked up the box and waited for me to start walking back towards the road with Bongo before following closely behind.
(Time Skip)
"Wow can you eat for a baby." I just finished feeding the little mystery baby that I had rescued from and untimely death, it had been three days and she seemed perfectly happy and apparently she likes peanut butter and jelly as much as I do. "Eeeeeehaaa. Waaaba yaaaa!" "Is that so? I didn't realize." I may not want to admit it but I enjoyed being around small babies like this, just acting normal. I never really wanted a big family but I did plan on having at least one child...that was before I found out about my condition. But now? Now that seemed possible for me...and maybe I could have the family that I had always wanted. I had Slender and Charlie, and now little baby...well little baby nothing at the moment, she still didn't have a name.
"Hmmm, well you have stunning green eyes and the prettiest smile with those four teeth of yours. Your hair is a light brown and your skin is only a little darker than mine, which isn't saying much because I'm as pale as they come." "Oh now surely you aren't the palest one here." I chuckled as Slender popped up behind me and ran a hand through my hair lovingly, something that he does nearly every night as I go to sleep and every morning as I wake up. "Have you still not named it?" "She. And no, just haven't thought of a name that fits very well...how's Olivia sound?" "You have a name that starts with O." "So?" "So...no." Why was he even being picky about this? He wasn't angry that I took in the baby but he hadn't been super involved, but I didn't blame him for that.
"Naaaanana! Yahhhhh!" I sighed and picked up the baby as she began to get a bit squirmy and mouthy, the first day or so she seemed wary of the people around her, but now it was as if I was her mother. As I picked her up she smiled and laid her head on my shoulder while holding onto a handful of my hair, a habit she picked up the second day she had been with me while I was reading her a story before bed. "You are very...good with her." "All women have a motherly instinct alright..." "Yes I suppose you are right, but that doesn't make her like you as much as she does." He had moved a bit closer and was now standing in front of me, looking down at the baby resting in my arms with his head tilted slightly to the side in interest. "Why don't you hold her." "I don't think I should-" "Nonsense."
I didn't give him a chance to decline as I lifted the baby and set her in his unwilling arms, not wanting to make a comment on how cute I thought it looked and ruin the moment. I watched curiously as he stiffened at first like he was afraid to move, but as she moved and looked up at him I saw him relax slightly and tilt his head. The little baby raised a hand to try and reach his face, she often did so to me when she wanted to grab my hair but seeing as he didn't have any she must want to touch his face then. "Lean down a bit further, she wants to touch your face." "Why would she want to do that?" "She's a baby, they learn from touch, sight, taste. Just stay calm, she may bite."
I smirked as I could practically hear his eyes roll at my joke before he turned serious once more and bent closer to the warm bundle in his arms. Her hand had stayed reached out and she curiously watched Slender as he leaned close enough for her to finally touch his cheek, her tiny fingers moving slowly over his smooth, pale skin. "Eh." The noise was one of wonder and she giggled happily before waving both hands around sporadically and kicking her feet out. "Well, she doesn't hate me so that's a start." I shrugged nonchalantly and smiled before sitting down on the couch and patting the spot next to me. "Want to feed her before she goes to bed?" "I thought she just ate?" "I only gave her a small amount, I want to feed her some of the antibiotic formula to keep her immune system up. So do you want to?" He nodded and moved his position a bit as I got up to get the formula and heat it up, somehow Slender managed to find enough fuel for the generator to last...well...a long time. I haven't managed to get how he did it but I would eventually whether he wanted to tell me or not.
Beep beep beep* As I shook up the bottle and turned to bring it over I smiled at the sight before me, Slender was softly stroking the babies hair and the side of her face. Not saying a word I quietly made my way over and placed the bottle in his waiting hand, "So now you're a pro at this?" Same as I did a few minutes earlier he shrugged as if it was nothing and gave her the bottle, turning his head too look at me as she drank eagerly. " I guess I have more skill than I thought." I said nothing but softly kissed him on the cheek and rested my forehead against his, loving the feel of the moment. "Look at this scene, so cuddly, so soft, so...cute." I rolled my eyes as Charlie made her way into the room knowingly, chugging the rest of her juice and tossing the paper cup in the trash.
"Don't ruin it then if it's such a cute moment, where've you been all day?" "Oh you know doing a bit of this and that, heard a few transmissions about a cure being dispersed. Apparently it works." "What?!" "Yup, now they didn't say how long it would take but they said it wouldn't be any time soon and whoever is alive out there to stay that way." This could not be happening could it? All this chaos and all this trouble and now the damned Government says they have a cure? "No...I don't believe it." "Look I felt the same but this was being sent out on all channels-" "It's bullshit!" I hadn't realized that my voice had risen so much and I heard the baby whimper as I must of woken her from a light sleep. "Why don't I put her to bed?" "Yeah...sorry. That'd be great." I waited until he left the room to continue my rant, my head slightly pounding from my outburst.
"They're not...it's not true. They can't have left us hanging like this for almost two years and then suddenly pop up with a cure! Where the hell do they get off?!" "Maybe they didn't want to give everyone alive false hope. Would you have felt better if one day they had said there was a cure then the next they were saying it was all a bust and it was back to square one? C'mon Orella give it a chance! Don't be afraid to place a bit of hope in something!" "I'm not, but what am I going to do if I get attached to this baby and say it takes them a year or two to finally eradicate the virus. By then she would know me as her mother and if they try and take her away...I don't want to lose the chance I was given to be a mother." I know what I had said sounded stupid but honestly it was the truth, even though I hadn't known this baby a week I wanted her to see me as her mother. I wanted to care for her and kiss her knee when she fell down, and I wanted Slender to be a part of that too.
"Well...even if she would be taken, which I'm not saying she would be. You could tell what happened and get her back." "But that's on a chance, what do you think they would say about a 24 or 25 year old with no job, no family and a house out in the woods?" She almost looked as of she didn't have anything else to say and for a moment I truly felt like an ass, but we both knew what I said was true. I was just the one to put it out. She moved around the kitchen a bit and got what I assumed was something from the fridge before moving back towards her room in silence, but before she shut her door she looked back at me with irritation in her eyes. "You just can't ever look on the bright side can you?" My eyes closed as she shut her door harshly, why couldn't I keep my mouth shut for once?
