John looked through the two way mirror at the kid on the other side.
Just 17 and already getting mixed up in something of this magnitude. John couldn't understand it.
He turned slightly to the sound of the small door at the back of the room opening slowly. It was Hawkgirl, two coffees in hand.
"Who's the kid?"
John always appreciated her directness. No extra fluff when she spoke. Spending excessive amounts of time with the Flash had greatly contributed to this appreciation.
"A break. One Batman's been looking a long time to find."
She sat down on the stool next to him, legs apart and leaning forward slightly. Aggressive. Just like her.
She stared for a minute looking like she wanted to call him on his vague answer but instead just handed him the extra coffee.
"Drink up, it's going to be a long night. We're the only ones currently on the Watch Tower."
That was... odd. J'onn was usually an ever present fixture haunting the tin can they used as a base.
"What's going on?"
"A giant wild fire started in California. Diana and Superman are there containing it. J'onn is helping with evacuation efforts. We're on standby in case they need more help"
John took another long drink of his coffee, staring idly out at Wally. It probably wasn't going to be the only cup he had tonight.

He laid out all the data he had carefully collected. Every half-baked rumor that had ever circulated about the mysterious organization. All in all, it was painfully little data for Bruce's taste.
He looked over at the kid sitting across from him.
Profuse sweating? Check.
Nervous swallowing? Double check.
"Look, I don't have a good answer for the video. Or even a lower C-range answer."
Bruce watched as Wally fidgeted with the edge of one of the many documents now in front of him.
"I'm just a college student. The most criminal thing I've done is eat ramen for 10 days straight.
Being part of some shady, bomb planting, premium grade evil, secrete organization is kinda a stretch."
Bruce could feel the forced levity in Wally's voice. He would give the kid one thing.
He did look earnest.
Before Wally could continue on with his meager defense, Bruce slammed his hands down on the papers littering the desk, standing up to seem more menacing in the process.
Silence. Good.
Bruce settled back into his chair. Leaving his hands securely resting on the table.
"Look, you know something. And that's all I need from you."
Bruce's tone would have given Jack Frost a run for his money.
"These guys have been moving all over the country. Stealing research materials from a lab in DC, kidnapping biologists, cutting off power to a Military base, and kidnapping the homeless in major cities."
Bruce moved several photos in front of Wally as he spoke. Each showing the aftermath of an attack. The most graphic of which was of a poor fool who had his face bashed in for getting in their way.
"Wally, I need to know what they were after at CCU. You withhold information, people die."
Bruce stared at Wally for a long while. Analyzing every line on his face.
The expression Wally had was so utterly clueless that no living human being could have even come close to emulating its authenticity.
He didn't know anything. That was as plain as a Nun's breakfast.
A mechanical whine echoed off the walls. That wasn't-
Everything went black.
