Watson POV, post-hiatus (notice the lack of cocaine).

Prompt 027: Sloth

"I am the most incurably lazy devil that ever stood in shoe leather — that is, when the fit is on me..."

- Sherlock Holmes

'Holmes,' I said eventually, 'you can't just lie there all day.'

He turned his blank eyes toward me from the couch on which he was sprawled.

'Whyever not?'

'You ought to do something,' I suggested. 'Play your violin. Conduct a chemical experiment.'

Holmes sighed.

'What good would it do?' he said listlessly. 'It benefits no one in the long run. Nothing does. Sometimes one wonders if there is any point in doing anything. We all end up in the same place in the end.'

I turned back to my book, and prayed silently that a new case might arrive soon.
