Chapter 7

Yeah, that was a terrible long wait. Sorry about that- I took a time off to better my writing and I don't think I'm still at where I want to be. But here's the chapter and all I've got to say is: "Enjoy!'

PM if you have questions. Review if you can.

Her terror was short-lived; gone as quickly as NOS, when she recognized the headlights and the car. The car screeched to a stop a few feet from her and the door flung open to reveal her brother.

"Mia!" It brought honeyed relief to her- she had thought it was one of Owen's tailing her.

She rushed to meet him, hugged him and smiled, "Dom, I saw him. I saw him."

Dom didn't have to ask who she was talking about. Her smile and her joy were all he had to see to know it was Brian who she was talking about. "How was he?"

"We raced! He was amazing, you should have seen him. But..." Mia paused hesitantly, pulling a lock of hair out of her eyes and patting it behind her ear. It was obvious that whatever had happened to Brian had been damaging and that whatever she had been before and whoever he had been before...it was all gone.

A part of her shriveled and fell away as she realized it as it was. When she had signed up for this job, she had come with the intention of picking up where she had left off. There had been no hitches in her plan, no thorns or bumps...she should have known better. If he had looked upon her and hadn't wrought recognition, then it was safe to say he didn't remember and probably would never.

"But?" Dom wondered, raising a curious brow.

"But they won't let him go so easily." She finished, replacing her original words with others. Even then, she caught the knowing glint in her brother's dark eyes.

He understood, just like her, how important this was. It wasn't just her love for the former cop, but for the wanting to feel the family whole again- or at least as whole as it could be without Jessie and Vince and...oh so many. Even so, she would never rest until Brian came again.

"Well, we're just gonna have to work harder."

If he had meant to say something else, he wouldn't because another pair of headlights appeared close off, lights bouncing off the metallic sheen on the cars. Dread filled her once more.

Brian grinned goofily as he remembered the beautiful and exquisite woman he had seen a few days ago but met today. It had been, hands down, the most amazing race he'd ever had. He'd never tell Kumiko that, though. She'd demand gossip.

His cheer disappeared when, as he swung the doors of the garage open, he was met with the five faces of his concerned crew- most prominently Kumiko's own. He only resisted sighing by will alone and like a man stood his ground.

"Yo! Everything okay?"

"Ok!? Is that all you say!? Brian, where the hell have you been?" Kumiko growled, "We've been trying to call you for the last three hours!"

Brian blinked, 'Was I gone that long?' He marveled at how fast time seemed to run, especially behind the wheel. The woman had been an extra enjoyment. "Oh, here and there ya know."

"That is not an answer." Kumiko warned, narrowing her eyes just enough to make Jake scoot away from her.

"It's the only you're gonna get." He smirked, "Be ready tomorrow early, Owen said he was done with the last of the modifications to the flip cars. He said something about the ramp not being good enough. By the way, car needs a sparkle. Might have gone over a puddle here and there."

He escaped the garage fast enough to avoid any spats he'd have to continue until three in the morning. But he was close enough to hear her scream of horror and disbelief as she registered the mud splattered on her car and a scratch he'd deliberately done on purpose just to spite her. Oh, and not to forget the gum some gangster stuck on her hood of her baby.

She wouldn't dare do that to his cars because unlike her, he could hold her supply of incoming car parts from her and that'd be bye-bye to any project she might have wanted to work on.

Before he really left the garage in favor for his dormitory on the trailer, he called out to his crew, "Oh, and start cleaning up- Owen wants us to move again."

Well, he didn't but Owen would call in a few hours to say that. Standard protocol, compiled after years of jobs made it possible to notice the predictability of cops. They were like babies sometimes: give them enough and they'll figure out something with it. Same with cops- you gave 'em info and sooner or later they'll figure out what it means. They were also creatures of habit and protocol too, just a less flexible protocol.

That meaning the location of just one of their bases was given through naive Oakes and transmitted to them without them knowing better. Sadly for them, it was always a temporary or non-important one. Hobbs had done the same as his predecessors except he'd taken less time in unearthing the 'top secret' location which made sense for the alliance the cop had with Toretto. They were effective both ways.

Standard protocol also allowed them to perform the same strategies over and over again without failing. Most of the crews that faced them could only do so two times before most of them ended up behind bars or six feet under. The first clash always, easily, went to Owen's favor. By the second run, the hypothetical crew already had an inkling to how Owen's teams moved and therefore made less errors.

Yet they still fell because they were often disorganized or had almost no brains at all. Most of the times it was because of shitty driving in which he drivers must have been high or something to lose focus so easily.

These past days told Brian that this time, it wouldn't be easy. Especially with that woman with them...but maybe that was the rush speaking.

And to think he'd been a pig too! This was going on the Wall of Unspeakables and Unseeables Kumiko had erected in memory of the most stupidest things the team or it's members ever had. Brian was proud to announce this would be his third time.

He'd have to speak to that woman once more. She went by Mia Toretto, as the files Vegh compiled said, and she was the sister of big bad Dominic Toretto. His own question ran unperturbed through his mind; how had he met her and what were the circumstances in which he did?

The question that connected it all: how was he connected in all of this? He would have been blind to not see he way almost all of the team had reacted and he was curious why.

His individual file had been dug up too but because of some stupid pig who declared him dead, most of the file was left unfinished. He'd much rather hear it from Mia anyways.

Maybe the next hit-and run would clear somethings up. Meanwhile, he had some specs to upgrade, a hell of a lot of jobs to consider, and he had to wait on Owen to finally show his damned self and tell him what to do next.

Brian threw himself atop his bed, "Personal information my ass, Owen's just asking for extra time."

Another chapter! Review or PM if you guys have questions or you just want to tell me what was cool or what wasn't.

On another note- I know it's a relatively short chapter, but I'm gearing up for the next action filled ones.
