You Should Be Here
A/N: This poem is inspired by Cole Swindell's "You Should Be Here". If you haven't heard it, then look it up. It's a beautiful song and Cole is a spectacular artist. And yes, it's a country song.
He looked back behind him.
The wind was calm,
The sun shone on the California land.
His little sister,
Uncle,
Father,
adoptive mother,
Skylar,
Oliver,
and Kaz.
He hadn't seen them in forever.
In his hand held three flower bouquets.
One for Adam,
Bree,
and Leo.
A tear fell out of his eye.
The three year anniversary,
Of that mission,
That took his siblings from him.
You Should Be Here,
He remembered it like it was yesterday.
Standing with your arm around me here,
Adam pushed him out of the way.
You'd be taking too many pictures on your phone,
Bree pushed him out of the way several minutes later.
Saying, "Hey, guys, it's sure been a good year",
Leo told him,
"You must live on. Goodbye, Chase. Be good to Naomi for me. You are a great brother. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise."
The words hung in his memory, like a spiderweb on a tree.
They say now, you're in a better place, and I would be too if I could see your face,
He ran to the graves.
Buried next to each other,
He looked to his brother's,
Adam Davenport
1997-2017
Loving brother and first bionic superhuman
Then his sister's,
Bree Davenport
1998-2017
Loving sister and second bionic superhuman
Then his younger brother's.
Leo Dooley
2000-2017
Loving brother and bionic superhuman that waited too long for his abilities
The flowers were placed on the graves,
And Chase cried.
He howled and cried out,
And you know that if I had just one wish, it would be that you didn't have to miss this.
They ran over and hugged Chase,
As he cried out for his siblings.
They say,
Time heals all wounds
Unless they're your own family.
Chase couldn't stop thinking,
wishing he could be with his siblings.
He didn't have to suffer.
But he did,
Just so he wouldn't have to make his family,
Cry like he was.
Sure,
He finished school,
Had a good job,
But it just wasn't the same,
Without Adam,
Bree,
And Leo.
The Elite Force lived on,
But everyone missed Bree.
They couldn't take it.
They avenged Adam,
Bree,
And Leo,
Each time they beat a villian.
Armed with fire and fury,
They were unstoppable.
Now,
They come here,
Every year,
And grieve,
For the ones who left too soon.
You should be here.
