Chapter 2: You Know You Love Me

Bashir and O'Brien

Set during their farewell scene during "What You Leave Behind"

For the first time in his life, Julian Bashir had nothing to say.

It wasn't that he couldn't have come up with something, it was that everything he could have come up with in that moment would have felt too cheap and cliched. Through all the years he had known Miles, he had never once thought about saying goodbye.

And here they were, speechless.

Their friendship simply wasn't an easy one to sum up in a few words, so they kind of stared at each other, communicating everything they felt about each other with their eyes.

They'd always denied it whenever someone pointed out their bond. They were men, after all….

So when Miles came in for the manly handshake, Julian knew just what to do.

He wrapped his best friend in a hug.

No words were needed today, because Julian knew Miles loved him, and knew Miles knew Julian felt the same way.

They remembered together, and when the time came to let go, they blinked back their tears and parted.

Julian watched Miles leave, secure in the love he felt for his friend.

He stood, lost in memory, staring at the airlock.

Because he couldn't look away. And when he finally did, it was because he was sure that he couldn't forget.
