I know it took forever for me to write this chapter. I am working on finishing this episode with the troll so we can move on with the rest of the characters. This is a short chapter but I promise to make the next chapter have more action in it. - S.
THEN:
The older Winchester cut the remaining ropes. He watched the large man like creature stand up on his stubby legs.
Brocan walked over to Castiel. "Thank you for helping me get free. We have crossed paths with your kind before. There is a legend of Angel folk helping all the trolls stopping a war between the Fairies and us. Your people sent the Fairies to another realm to keep the peace and balance in all worlds." He held out his large hand.
"You are welcome. Please help my friends catch this killer." Castiel shook Brocan's hand the best he could. The angel turned his face toward's Dean. "I am going back to the bunker. Call me if you need help."
Dean handed the Trolls sack of possessions back to the creature. "Um Sorry we mistaken you for the killer."
The gruff voice replied. "You are hunters doing your job. We work together, we can catch him real soon." Large eyes glanced over to see the angel teleport away from the area.
NOW:
The Winchester brothers drove back to the motel feeling a sense of accomplishment. "I hope this troll remembers how to use a cellphone." Dean drove his car into the parking lot. "He better not deceive us otherwise I will mount his head on one of the walls of the bunker."
"Dean I believe he will call us when he find out where this other troll is hiding." Sam scrolled through his smart phone to check messages.
The older brother's turned the car ignition off. "I hope you are right. Anyway let's get some shut eye so we have enough energy to take out this thing." Dean set the duffel bag of weapons down on a small table in the room.
Sam looked over at the man getting his sweat pants and t-shirt out of his overnight bag. "Don't forget to call Mara. She is probably waiting for an update from you."
Green eyes pan over to the younger man feeling exhaustion. "Yeah I better give her a call." Dean closed the door to the bathroom placing his clothes on the toilet lid. He speed dialed the number.
"Hello Dean. What's going on?" Mara voice sound like she was lying down on her bed.
The older man leaned against the bathroom counter. "I wanted to update you on what happened this evening." Dean gave her the details about meeting the Troll and the deal they made with him.
The woman sat on the sofa listening to every word and reading his thoughts at the same time. Mara gotten used to separating the someone's inner thoughts and verbal conversations. She can clearly tell that Dean was worried the Troll may betray them. "Don't worry things will work out and you will get the rogue killer troll. Don't be too proud to ask for my help." There was a momentary silence. "Dean I am well enough to fight. The offer is there to take."
Moving his eyes towards the mirror noticing his own reflection displaying look of disapproval on his face. "Thanks for offering but Sam and I got things under control."
"Fine. Well I will let you rest. Call me sometime tomorrow if anything happens." Feeling a little disappointed by sensing his lack of confidence in her to stay safe. Mara was getting tired of him thinking she was a weak person.
They chatted for a few more minutes until Mara ended the call. In frustration she threw her cell phone at the end of the sofa. "That bastard thinks I am an inviolate." She indexed through some of his memories capturing situations that either caused him near death and even death to be revived again. Her injury was no different than Dean and his brother. Even Sam had his soul placed back in his body and he is still hunting monsters with no residual weakness. Mara was going to have a serious talk with the older Winchester when he returns from his hunt. For now, she will play nice with him while he was out on his hunt. The last thing he needed is to be distracted from arguing with her.
Mara heard footsteps heading toward her. "Are you alright?" She turned her head to see Castiel taking a few more steps until he sat at the end of the sofa.
"I'm okay. Just talked to Dean earlier. He sounded a worried." She placed the remote to the side table.
The angel sat down next to the woman. "It's more like you felt his worries from your abilities." He saw her startled look. "Don't worry Mara. I will not tell Dean about your telepathic and empathetic gifts." Hearing a sigh, he continued. "You will have to tell him sooner or later. I suggest sooner so he would be less angry if he knows you can read him like a book."
She ran a hand though her messy wavy hair. "Not entirely, there are still some things that are locked up inside of him. I have seen most of his inner thoughts. Some of it is pretty scary. There is also a void in there like something is missing or was taken out." Reflecting on what she remembered. "It's more like a scar that was placed there. A deep spiritual wound. I don't know if it can be fixed." She looked at the cobalt blue eyes showing acknowledgement and sympathy. "Dean manages to work around the scars leaving thin slivers on his soul."
Castiel was surprised she can see that deep in to his friend. "I am astonished your abilities are that powerful to see his soul."
"Not really. When I died I saw his soul and all of my abilities were freed from my body and was able to fully extended to its capacity. I was able to see his soul orb and what contained. I was truly shocked that someone that suffered so much like Dean is able to keep himself normal." Mara paused. "Normal as he can be under the circumstances."
He silently agreed to her analogy. "That's pretty much sums up to the truth. When I got him out of hell it was a few hard months of nightmares of his time there. I was just getting to know him as well as reacquainting myself to humanity. Dean taught me about what it means of being human and willing to fight for mankind. I never truly understood until I became human temporary."
Mara looked at him with a stunned expression. "You were human? How was that possible?" Castiel gave her the short story of what happened and his borrowing Kuryiel's grace. "Wow that's amazing. Here I was out for revenge and there was something far bigger going on out here."
"Most people did not know what was going on with the world and heaven. Even the other hunters are not aware. Dean wants to keep them unaware to prevent complications." Cas explained feeling Kuryiel's presence returning to the bunker.
The tan eyed woman noticed Kuryiel walking toward them. "Dean made a wise decision. We don't need other involved that do not know how to handle the situation. I have met some hunters that were very egotistic and they would rather play the hero then share help with others." Mara greeted Kuryiel watching the woman sitting next to Castiel. She noticed the way he looked at her has he grasped the other angel's hand. "I'm going to wash my hair. I will chat with both of you later." She rose from the sofa walking away silently. Mara enjoyed watching the angel couple and feeling a sense of longing of having someone to love. Dean entered her thoughts. She wondered if he would consider having a relationship with her. He has been flirting a little but not heavily pursuing like he did with women in his past. "Does it have to do with me not being human?" The thought echoed in her head. The older man shown care for her in many ways but his heart was pretty much shielded.
Kuryiel cuddled with Castiel on the sofa. "I feel a lot of frustration from Mara. She is feeling a little restless."
"I agree and Dean is not helping things. Should I talk to him about this problem?" He turned his head to side of head.
She grasped his hand. "No let them figure it out. Things will work out one way or the other. We must not interfere with other people's relationships."
Castiel nodded in agreement. "You are right. I only want both of them to find happiness in each other. Dean deserves to experience love like we have. He has been alone for so long. The last woman he loved was a forced breakup because of the circumstances of her being in danger. Mara is different. She fits with everything involved here."
Kuryiel rose from the sofa. I am going to speak with Mara for a little while. I sense her sadness and frustration. Bending towards the man she gave him a kiss on the forehead. Why don't you visit some of our angels to get some information?" Castiel agreed disappearing a moment later. Kuryiel approached the door. When Mara opened it Kuryiel held out a bottle of cold beer. "I thought you might need one of these."
The auburn haired woman felt grateful she had someone that was concerned about her. "Thanks. Please come in." She watched the angel take a seat in the small chair by the bed.
"Let's have a girl talk." Kuryiel watch Mara taking a gulp of beer.
Dean lay in the bed staring at the ceiling. His thoughts were of Mara and wondered how she was doing at the bunker. He instantly noticed a tone of frustration on her voice when he made it clear she was not needed. The man understood clearly what it is like to feeling helpless and being hindered from doing any hunting. He knew Mara's pride was hurt by his comments and attitude. "Dammit! I want to protect the people that matters to me!" Yelling the words inside his head, Dean reflected on how many times the people he was close to trusted their safety with him and end up being killed or hurt. His feelings for Mara were totally unexpected and he had no clue what to do about it. He turned his head to see his younger brother sleeping. Dean rose from the bed feeling restless as he noticed the time on his cellphone. "It's freakin four in the morning." His frustrated thoughts spoke out in his head. Sitting at the small table the older brother opened the laptop to watch some porn until he got tired.
Sam gritted his teeth when he instantly spotted scantily clad women in thongs and heels. "Dean!" He yelled angrily. He could not stand having his computer all virused up from the porn sites. "How many times I told you don't surf porn on my laptop."
"What? I only went to a couple of websites." Dean grinned at his younger brother.
The taller man shook his head in dismay. "I don't want even one of those websites to be on my internet history. Last time it took a couple of hours to clean viruses off my laptop. You have your laptop here so why don't you use it."
Dean walked over setting a coffee next to his brother's electrical device. "Sorry Sammy. I did not feel like taking it out of the bag." He changed the subject by asking. "Have you heard from your troll friend? You showed him how to text messages on my cellphone."
"Yeah I did but there may not be a cellphone signal in the troll realm" Sam sat back in his chair carefully sipping his coffee.
Dean frowned realizing the obvious. "I did not think of that. When he goes into a portal there might not be signal. I guess they are not high tech enough to have satellites where they are."
The younger brother tried not to smile at his brother's comment. "Most likely not. These beings are from middle Earth. There will be no sky or out-of-space where the trolls live."
The older brother closed his green eyes rubbing his face with his right hand in frustration. "I did not think of that either. I hope he will call us soon."
"I agree. We have to wait until then. Hopefully, this Brocan troll will call today. I am still creating a pattern where this crazy troll organ harvester might attack again." Sam viewed the screen that had several local bridges in the town displayed on a website.
"Yeah we need to get this killer soon. I have a feeling this town is going to find a fresh dead body either tonight or tomorrow. This troll knows his days are numbered. He may decide to close shop and relocate himself." Dean gruffly said feeling a bit frustrated.
The brothers plan a strategy of selecting three bridges that possibly be the next area to attack people. They got into the car heading to the nearest diner for breakfast. While sitting in the restaurant, Sam reviewed the menu. Dean borrowed Sam's cellphone to text Mara an update of not hearing the troll at this time.
Mara texted him a response. "Give the troll a day. I bet he will contact you sooner than you think."
His green eyes read the message appreciating the words of encouragement. He thought about her pretty smile and the way she hugged him a while ago. "Get that thought out of your head. She is not human." Dean instantly stopped his inner self-talk. He replied to the woman.
Mara heard her phone chimed again. Looking at the screen she saw a curt. "Thanks. We will get back to you later." Placing her cellphone on the table harder than she should. "What a jerk!" The woman stomped toward the kitchen area.
Kuryiel was preparing breakfast. She turned around to see the auburn hair woman walk in with an angered expression on her face. "Is everything okay?"
"No I'm not." She plopped down onto the kitchen chair. "Dean is a rude son-of-a bi-"
The woman angel placed a cup of coffee. "Here. This will help you feel better." She cut Mara off from using profanity.
Picking up the coffee mug. "Thanks." She gruffly said before taking a sip. Her eyes widen at the rich flavors. "What is this? I know you did not get this from a regular coffee shop." Mara heard a chuckle from the angel that was across the room.
"Let's just say that I made a couple of quick trips across the globe to get some great coffee and fresh cream from a farm. They were more than happy to take my money." Kuryiel turned around to continue her cooking.
Mara was impressed with her friend's ability. "We should take a worldwide shopping trip one day. It will save me so much money on travel cost."
"I will think about it." Kuryiel told her. Both women heard footsteps approaching the kitchen knowing it was Castiel. He walked in greeting Mara.
Mara gestured the man angel to sit across from her. "Have you heard from the jerk?" She said with a little disdain.
Castiel knew who she was talking about and from her body language she was quite annoyed with a particular individual. "I have not heard from Dean. Apparently, he must have done something to offend you."
She sat back crossing her arms. "Something like that. I was trying to act supportive and he acted cold in return. I am getting tired of his hot and cold treatment."
"Dean has a habit of pushing people away when he starts to feel close. He does care about you Mara." Castiel wanted to calm the frustrated woman sitting at the table.
Mara continued to sit there with her arms crossed. "If you say so. Cas, if Dean continues to act rude to me I will leave and never return."
Kuryiel placed a plate of food before Mara. "Please don't leave. You know Dean does care about you. He is afraid to get emotionally close to you. I will never forget his face when you died. He was devastated." She took a seat next to Cas.
"I understand what you are saying but I don't like when he acts fickle. I don't deserve it." Mara anger started to dissipate.
Castiel patted the woman's hand. "I agree. You don't deserve it. Give him a little bit more time."
Mara looked at both angels knowing they were being supportive to her and Dean. Mara knew the stubborn man liked her but refuses to accept it. Knowing this will not keep her here if he continued to act cold towards her in order to protect his feelings. "What are your plans for today? Meeting another angel?"
Kuryiel took a bite of her food. "Yes we are meeting a couple of them. I suggest you come with us to keep you distracted from." She paused for a few seconds. "The jerk." Castiel gave her a surprised look which made Mara laugh
