Rangiku groaned as the bright light of a new day shinned down upon her face. She could feel the pounding of her latest hangover was in full swing and she had to push down the rush of bile that wanted to surface. Last night had been a night of heavy drinking, nothing too unusual but she felt like she forgot something important.
"I see you've finally woken up."
In a flash she shot up, ignoring the headache and nausea she turned around to see that she had passed out on the couch of the tenth division and sitting at his desk was her captain. A frown was present on his face as his brush signed off on endless documents. His teal eyes looked over at her, and his frown slowly morphed into a scowl. "What are you looking at? Don't think just because you're hungover I'm going to let you slide with not doing any work. It's already late in the afternoon, and you haven't even started anything!" he all but shouted out, the room's temperature slowly dropping as his rage was slowly being released.
Rangiku wasn't sure if she should be relieved or not that her captain was acting the way he always does. It made her question things. "Captain? Are you feeling alright?"
He raised a thin white eyebrow at her. "Yes, why wouldn't I be?"
She pressed her lips together, trying to think of what to say that wouldn't set him off and make her headache double in size. "You mean you don't feel any different?"
His brush stopped in its movements as he took in the woman that was sitting on the couch directly across from him. Part of his lip was twisted upwards; showcase the confusion her question caused him. "Just how much did you have to drink last night?" he sighed before getting back to work. He didn't have time to her foolishness.
She wasn't sure what to make of this. On the one hand, she was glad he was acting like he usually does but on the other, she was disappointed. She had thought for sure that after he got together with Momo, he would be on cloud nine for at least a week. But he was acting like nothing even happened. "Was it all a dream?"
A soft knock on the door got both their attention, and soon enough Momo Hinamori walked through the door. Her new bob hairstyle with a simple but cute hairclip that was on the left side told Rangiku that what happened was no dream. "Toshiro, I'm sorry I'm so late. Captain Hirako was pretty upset that I forgot about him in the human world." She laughed softly, thinking of how upset her captain was. While she felt terrible about it, she did find it somewhat amusing that he had spent so much of his day fighting with his friend when he was the one who suggested the go to the world of the living to relax.
"It's no problem, I was just waiting for Rangiku to wake up anyway," he stood from his desk, stretching slightly as he did so. His body was sore from sitting all day, but one sight at Hinamori had him smiling. "I expect you to do your share of the work while I'm gone." He told his lieutenant, hoping that for once she actually listened to him and did some part of her duties. He had important plans with Momo tonight that he did not want to miss.
"So where should we go for lunch, Toshiro?" Momo asked, giggling as he eagerly reached for her hand to hold. Ever since yesterday, he hasn't been shy about being close to her. "Making up for lost time, I guess." Her cheeks turned a soft shade of pink at the thought.
"Wherever is fine." He told her the truth. He didn't care where she took him, so long as he was by her side he would be happy anywhere.
So the happy couple walked out of the tenth division, leaving behind a very confused Rangiku. "I have a headache." She groaned, lying back down on the couch for a much-needed nap. She had just woken up, but she was already exhausted. "Once my head stops pounding the captain better tell me everything that happened between him and Momo." She pouted, slightly annoyed that for once she didn't know all the details, but she swore that sooner or later she was going to find everything out. She always did. Turning her head to the side, she got comfortable and let her body relax and as she slowly drifted off to sleep. "I'm happy for you two." She truly was. Seeing her captain so happy was indeed shocking and albeit a little scary but it made her so delighted to know that finally after so long he finally got his happy ending. "Who knew a simple haircut could accomplish so much?"
