Batman Beyond The Death of Batman
Chapter 11
Bruce looked at the phone and waited. At first the phone line was silent and then he heard Mat crying out.
"Terry! Terry, you have to get up, you have to wake up! Come on Terry, you can beat this, you're Batman, wake up! I need you," the last part was weaker and Bruce ached for the poor kid.
Bruce leaned forward to speak into the phone, "McGinnis," Bruce's voice rang out loud on the phone. Terry didn't answer and Bruce became more frantic. "McGinnis! MicGinnis, answer me! Are you alright," Bruce demanded and still got no reply. "Terry!"
Finally a groan escaped Terry and he tried to move. "Br…Bruce," He groaned.
"Terry," Bruce asked frantically through the phone.
"Bruce….So…Sorry, I failed you…"
"Terry, don't give up! We have search parties looking everywhere for you! Powers won't win this!"
"I…Failed you," Terry replied weakly with a groan.
"Terry, don't you give up," Bruce ordered. "You saved me and I am now I am going to save you!"
"Too late," Terry replied weakly.
"Terry," Bruce yelled and that was when the line went dead, the phone had died. Bruce growled in frustration, the phone had not been on long enough for him to get a trace on the phone, only to know that Terry was fading fast and needed medical attention now. He pounded his fists on the computer in frustration and that was when Max came in and put her hand on his shoulder.
"Yeah, I'm worried about him too."
Bruce looked up at her and gave her a weak smile, after all, he never showed emotions to anyone, but that was as close as he got to showing that he cared.

Mat was frantic when Terry woke up, he sounded so hopeless, and they had lost connection with Mr. Wayne, which seemed to be what kept Terry talking. Mat wanted to shake his brother, to wake him, but he couldn't because his hands were still tied behind him.
"Terry, don't give up! Please! I need you, I'm scared," Mat cried out, and that seemed to wake Terry again.
Terry slowly stirred and looked at Mat with the little light they were allowed in the casket, a small light stick on the oxygen tank they had left to show them how much air they had left in there. Terry looked at his brother and gave him a slow smile, "It…It's alright Twip, I'm here," he said using his old name for his brother hoping to calm Mat. "Scoot up next to me, maybe I can untie you…"
Slowly Mat scooted up to Terry with his back to Terry's hands. It hurt for Terry to move his arms, but then again everything hurt him, but he was still determined to set Mat free so that he could calm his brother. Terry fumbled with the ropes, but slowly he was able to untie Mat and right away Mat hugged Terry and Terry hissed in pain as his broken ribs protested and Mat let go right away.
"Terry, how are we going to get out of here," Mat asked with big eyes.
"I…I don't know Twip, but…We'll think of something…Don't worry, the old man will find us and get us out of here, and then all of this will just be one big nightmare…Trust me," Terry gave a smile to his brother trying to reassure him, but when that did not work he slowly lifted his arms and wrapped them around Mat and pulled him in for a hug. He held Mat close to him, ignoring the pain in his sides from his ribs, it seemed to calm both Mat and Terry to be like this.

"Bruce, we're getting nothing from the grave yard, GL and I are going to split up and help Dick and Damian…"Clark called in and Bruce looked up at the screen.
"Alright Clark, but you had better go with Damian, he likes you a little more and I would guess he would work better with you then GL…And Clark, please hurry…I heard from Terry, he was awake, but he was weak and fading fast…"
"Did you get a location," GL asked.
"No, the phone died before I could track it…All I know for sure is that he is still in Gotham…" Bruce sighed.
"Bruce, don't worry, we'll find him and his brother in time…" Clark said to reassure him and Max held onto Bruce's shoulder, still trying to comfort him, and for some reason he didn't push her away.
"Alright, keep me posted Clark, GL, I'll keep com link up and let you know if I hear anything more," Brue replied.
"Right, will do, and don't worry Bruce, we'll find them," Clark replied before taking off to the docks.
Bruce sighed and looked at Max with an actual smile, even if it was small, "Thank you Miss Gibbson, it has helped to have you here…" he sighed again, "Thank you Max."
She smiled, but before she could say anything more, her thoughts were interrupted by someone else in the cave, "You should feel lucky, he never says that to anyone." They looked up to see Red Hood in the cave and Max gasped and backed up slightly. She had read the history files, Red Hood was suppose to be a bad guy, even if he did take out other bad guys, it was only to further his own territory. She looked at Bruce, but he did not seem to be concerned at all, "I assume you have news Jason…"
"Yeah, it's amazing how talkative guys can be when hanging over the side of a building…" Jason shrugged at Bruce's frown, "Hey, it got us more info then we already had, didn't it…"
Bruce sighed, "What did you find out Jason?"
"Those bastards that kidnapped the kid and McGinnis did give him oxygen, but only an hour's worth, and then they buried him alive!" Bruce could see how upset Jason was about this, it was just like what he had faced when he was younger then McGinnis was and Bruce once again felt bad for what he had done. "Anyways, they did bury him alive, and they were not sure where exactly, they just knew it was on the west side of town…Somewhere in that area…"
"Well, while I don't approve of your methods, I am glad to see you at least got results…I'll make the call in and have everyone move into that area of the city, with any hope we will find him before it's too late," Bruce said turning back to the computer.
"Or you could just ask," Came a weak voice from the shadows, and Bruce looked up to see a very weak Tim Drake being carried by Melanie Walker. "Don't worry Bruce, Ten…Uh…Melanie, was blindfolded, she has no idea where we are or how we got here…" Bruce watched the two of them with caution.
"I know you don't trust me Mr. Wayne, and I don't blame you, but Mr. Drake and I know where Terry is…The other villains are off having a celebration at the defeat of Batman…I was able to free Mr. Drake the same way Terry did and he brought me here…wherever here is…But we know where Terry is, and we have to hurry if we are going to help save him in time…" Melanie said with worry.
"Alright, go on," Bruce said as Jason kept his guns pointed at the two of them.
