Batman Beyond the End of Batman
Chapter 12
Tim looked over at Jason, who still had the gun pointed at him and Melanie, and smirked, "Miss me Red?"
Jason chuckled, "Well, guess I can't call you Baby B anymore." He smirked but still held the gun up, pointed at the two of them. When Tim gave him a smirk and looked at the gun, Jason just shrugged, "What, you didn't expect me to trust the clown that was in you, did you? This is only insurance, if that damn clown really is gone, and your new girlfriend does not attack, then I will have no reason to shoot."
Tim chuckled, "Still don't trust anyone, do you Jay?"
"Can you blame me Timmy, with all that we have seen, all the clown has done," Jason asked and Tim sighed.
"Jay, you were not the only one the Joker attacked, I'm living proof he didn't just stop with you," Tim sighed, thinking of all the things he had done this time as the Joker, things he couldn't have stopped, but also things he had done, even if it had been Joker inside of him that had done it.
"I am sorry for all that the clown did to you Timmy, if I had been here, that clown would have died for trying to touch you…He'd have never gotten his hands on you," Jason said his anger flaring up again and that was when Bruce cleared his voice and everyone looked up at him.
"Excuse me, I didn't mean to interrupt the family reunion, but…You said you knew where Terry was…"
Melanie finally looked away from Jason's gun, (for the first time since he had drawn it on them), and looked at Bruce, "Yes sir, we do. Powers wanted it to be in a place you would never think to look for it…A place no one would look for him…He didn't even mark the grave, he just took the batsuit as a trophy…" She sighed at this, ashamed that she had helped with all of this. "Terry is in the bay…On that small island there…I'm amazed that Powers even knew about it, I didn't even know it was there…He went to the center of the island and made a spot, and that was where he buried them…" She sighed, "The would have about fifteen to twenty minutes left of oxygen, so if we are going to save him, we need to do it now or else they will run out of time…I don't know, maybe it's too late for Terry, he was pretty beat up," at this Melanie wrapped her arms around herself, showing her weakness, showing she truly did care about Terry.
Bruce looked up at Max, "Max, go get Mrs. McGinnis…The others will be sleeping and my old batwing wouldn't hold all of them anyways…Go get Mrs. McGinnis and then come back down here, I need someone I can trust to watch Tim and guard Ten…"
"No, I'm coming with you," she argued, "Terry is my best friend and I will not stay here while you rescue him!"
"Out of the question, I need someone here to keep watch and guard these two, someone I can trust, and the old batwing may be bigger then the new one, but it still only holds three people at the most," Bruce argued with a frown.
"Good, then that means that I can go with you and Mrs. McGinnis," she replied with a smirk.
"Out of the question, I need someone here to guard these two, I can't just leave them unattended," Bruce growled.
"Let the girl go old man, I'll stay and watch these two, and you know there is no way they'll get past me," Jason said holding up his gun and Melanie visibly flinched, "See, they won't try anything."
Max smiled, ran up and hugged Jason, thanked him, then ran up the stairs to get Mrs. McGinnis. Jason stood there blinking, caught off guard by Max's actions and Bruce smirked. Bruce turned to his computer and notified everyone via com link where Terry and his brother were and that they should hurry. Clark and Damian were the closest and said they would be there in no time. By the time Bruce had finished notifying everyone via com link, Mrs. McGinnis came running down the stairs, Max at her heals.
"Is…Is it true, did you really find my boys," her face showed hope, but her eyes showed caution. Bruce noted her appearance and could tell the woman had not slept at all since Terry had been taken and he felt bad for her, but he also knew what that was like. He nodded slowly.
"Yes Mrs. McGinnis, we have found where they are being hidden at, but it won't be a pretty sight," Bruce replied.
"I don't care, I have to be with my boys," Mrs. McGinnis said, her voice frantic.
"Very well, follow me then…Max, I guess you can come seeing as I am not being given much of a choice…" Bruce sighed as the two women followed him to the old batwing. Max marveled at the tech, even if it was old and Mrs. McGinnis was surprised, but did not hesitate to get in. Once all were in, Bruce took to the skies and flew to the small island.
Page Break
Terry had passed out sometime after he had wrapped his arms around his brother. He woke up when Mat began to shake him and it took him a few seconds to remember where he was, but that was when he heard the scraping. He looked up and then looked at Mat who has big eyes.
"Ter, what do you think it is? Do…Do you think the bad guys are coming back for us," he asked, fear creeping into his voice.
Terry's voice was weak, but he forced it to be stronger, "Naw Twip, they've given us up for dead, they won't kill us now…" he smiled weakly at Mat, "So…Sounds like our rescue party has finally come…"
Terry had no more then said that when they felt the casket they were in move. Terry held on tightly to Mat, though every bone in his body hurt, and cried out when the oxygen tank hit his bad leg, but he held back anything else that might have escaped. They heard a loud clank, which sounded like the lock on the outside being crushed, and then the lid of the coffin was opened and the light from the sun spilled in. Terry flinched as the sun light was far too bright, but then he heard a cry and someone running to them. Before he knew what was happening his mother had run up to him and Mat and had them in a tight hug and Terry cried out in pain.
Mary McGinnis had been so happy to see both her boys alive she had forgotten that Terry might be hurt pretty badly. When she heard his cry of pain, she slowly let go and got a look at her son. He was not standing on his own, but rather being held up by her and Mat, and his once white shirt was now half to three-fourths of the way red, showing that his injuries had been bleeding a lot. One of Terry's eyes was black along with a spot on his jaw, and several other places she was sure. She looked from him to Mat, worried that Mat might have been hurt as well, but the worst Mat had was the small red scare on his face where Blight had burned him and red raw lines from where the ropes had been around his wrists, showing that the villains had not been gentle with Mat when ting him, but very rough and tight. Mary ached for her son, but she knew the best thing to do was get Terry to a doctor and as quickly as possible.
Mat would not leave his brother's side, so, when the paramedics came with the stretcher for Terry, (they had been there the whole time because every minute counted, but they wanted to give Mary a chance to be with her son), Mat, and Mary, rode with them on the boat to the shore, and then the ambulance to the hospital. They were quickly followed by all the heroes and everyone else (such as Barbara and her cop friends, Bruce, Max, Chelsea, Dania, and all the others), back to the hospital to wait for news about Terry. Mat was very distraught when the doctors told him he had to wait, that he could not go with Terry, but he stayed with his mother as the other doctors examined him and treated his few wounds. Now all there was left to do was wait.
