The Waiting Void

The Waiting Void

In this crazy little quest we're on I'm the plan guy. I should start introducing myself as "Sokka, the plan guy." I might actually do that my ideas pan out on the Day of Black Sun.

But it just hit me I don't have a plan for what to do after. I mean, let's say Aang beats the Firelord. Then what?

Someone has to be in charge in the Fire Nation. Who do we have that could get a whole nation to stop fighting after they've been doing it for one hundred years and give up the territory they've conquered in the Earth Kingdom?

The Firelord losing to the Avatar or not, there's going to be diehards who'll want to keep fighting. It might be some crazy version of patriotism or just lust for power, but if someone can't reign them in then there'll be who knows how many warlords popping up trying to take control of the Fire Nation and keep the fighting going.

Aang's only one guy. Cleaning up a mess like that would take even him years and who knows how many more people would die in that time.

Occupying the Fire Nation just isn't an option. The Earth Kingdom is the only power with the forces to do that. But their first priority would be getting their own house in order after the Fire Lord goes down. By the time they'd sorted all that out the whole Fire Nation would already be in chaos and the mess would just keep spreading.

Besides, the Fire Nation people are proud. They won't accept being ruled by someone foreign. The rebellion would start immediately and that would likely be just as bad as a bunch of warlords running around.

Azula is evil and crazy. Her brother isn't much better. The old man, Iroh, is supposed be a pretty good guy. But rumor has it he's in prison for treason. Good luck trying to get people to accept him as ruler even if he does want the job.

If we can't find someone Fire Nation to run things then that balance Aang and the rest of us are trying to restore isn't going to last long. Heck, the world might even take a turn for the worse after we save it.

How unfair is that?

Think, Sokka! You're the plan guy. When all this is over you're the one they're going to look to for the plan on what to do next. And if you can't think of something then everything you've fought for all this time will have been for nothing.

But no pressure or anything.
