Kakashi remembers what had attracted him to Iruka to begin with.

It wasn't how cute he looked when he got angry or the way his whole face went red when he was embarrassed.

It wasn't his love for his village or the people in it. Nor was it Iruka's way of seeing beneath the surface and into someone's heart and soul.

No, what had caught Kakashi's attention was Iruka's laugh.

-

It had surprised Kakashi at first, having been only used to Iruka's yelling or blushes, but as soon as Kakashi had made a joke on Genma's behalf the chuunin had began to laugh, loud and genuine.

Kakashi had been glad Iruka was busy laughing, because he missed Kakashi's wide-eyed, open-mouthed stare, then the small smile that replaced it.

Iruka's laugh seemed to make everything seem ok, like he hadn't just come back from a mission which was full of blood and death, like Sasuke wasn't still missing. It made Kakashi's heart swell to see Iruka's eyes sparkle with tears of laughter as Genma crossed his arms looking very unimpressed.

Iruka's laugh had been addictive, and Kakashi had made it his duty to make sure it happened more often.

Kakashi grinned down at his book reading chuunin who was currently unaware he was being looked at like some kind of prey. That was until his predator was on him in a flash, pinning him to the couch.

It only took another second before Kakashi's fingers were tickling Iruka's sides and the sound of Iruka's laughter filled his lounge room.

Yes, Kakashi loved that laugh.
