Chapter 6: Brothers
"Who's Virgil?" Ichigo asked as he was throwing the shelf off of Leon, and shaking him. Leon began to stir rubbing his head. Dante didn't answer him, instead he questioned Virgil.
"What do you want?" he asked coldly. He did not take his eyes off Virgil, waiting tensed for any movement.
"Now, is that any way to speak to your brother?" Virgil asked sarcastically. Ichigo, who was waking up Luffy, turned to pay attention now.
Virgil was as tall as Dante. He had the same hair color as Dante. Completely white, except his hair was shorter and spikey. Virgil wore a blue trench coat over an old fashioned black vest, and suit pants. He had the same blue colored eyes as Dante. He was armed with what appeared to be a katana. They were practically identical.
"Last time I saw you, you we're trying to kill all humans and rule the world. So yeah" Dante replied.
"That's because humans are weak and disgusting creatures. They require domination, they live for it." Virgil laughed in a mocking tone. Changing subjects, he said, "I heard rumors that the other Son of Sparda was here, the demon hunter, the human lover" scoffing he said, "I see it's true."
He continued, "You even brought the trash with you. Three humans, and one wannabe death god." Virgil looked genuinely disgusted. Ichigo bristled at that remark.
"I'll show you who's a wannabe", he shouted, drawing his sword.
Dante held an arm up to stop Ichigo."You still haven't said what you want." Dante looked visibly irritated now.
"I missed you!", Virgil exclaimed mockingly. Dante just stared coldly. "I want to know why you are here. In my dominion."
"Hey weirdo, were lookin for someone" Luffy cut in. "Supposed to be a ghost or something." Luffy started picking his nose. Oblivious to the destruction around him, or the scornful look coming from Virgil. "I need some meat and I'm thirsty. This place sucks" he complained.
Dante sighed, "We're looking for the Ghost of Sparta."
Virgil tensed slightly, but just enough for Dante to notice.
"Ring a bell?" Dante asked him knowingly.
"What could you possibly want with that monster?" he replied.
"Somebody wants him brought back. For what I don't know. All I know is he has the leverage. Do you know where he is?" he asked.
Virgil looked squarely at Dante. "Brother, he makes our Father look weak. Going after him is foolish. He's been down here for centuries. No doubt he has lost his mind by now… even more than before." Virgil looked dead serious.
"We must." Dante said. "Who is this guy?"
"A demon in a humans body. Tainted by the old demons of Greek. Back when humans still worshipped demons unknowingly. He killed all of the old Greek demons. ALL of them. Big or small players. He is not to be tested." Virgil looked uncomfortable. A first as far Dante knew.
"Virgil." Dante looked at Virgil very levelly, "The leverage he has is Nero, your son." With that Virgil suddenly looked furious.
"I know where he is kept." He stated. "I can take you there, but it will not be easy getting to him. I also have no idea what state of mind he will be in after centuries of being here in Hell." Virgil glanced at the still unconscious Naruto. "These humans are weaker than us." He then locked eyes with Leon, who was bleeding from the shelf falling on him. "This one is the weakest. I sense no ability in him at all. This will most certainly be a death sentence for all of them."
Before Dante could answer, Leon spoke up, "Don't worry about me. I'll be fine. I have to find Claire."
Ichigo spoke up next, "I am a Soul Reaper, and that guy," he pointed to Naruto, "has some kind of demon in him like Dante, or even worse."
Luffy didn't say anything at all, he still seemed focused on picking his nose. This drew a particularly disgusted look from Virgil. Dante caught his gaze however, and gave him a nod as if to say, they have all made their minds up already, and nothing he could say would change it.
"Let's go then." Virgil said. Virgil headed towards the stairs that the group had entered from to begin with. Ichigo picked up Naruto and began to follow him out, and everyone else quickly followed suit. Dante was the last one out. Glancing at the corpse of Orochimaru and the Nemesis. He had a fleeting thought of taking the chain gun with him, but decided it was too cumbersome.
Nothing had changed from before, when the group had found the pillars. The group exited the opening, which did not close behind them. They began walking back the way that they came, following Virgil. The group continued past the point where they were initially dropped by the portal, and continued on for a while. There was nothing but the blood-soaked brimstone, and flames all around them. At this point, Naruto stirred.
"What happened?" he muttered. Realizing he was on Ichigo's back, he quickly jumped off exclaiming about how he didn't need help. Naruto looked around and realized they were no longer in Orochimarus lair, and sighted Virgil for the first time.
"WHOA! When did Dante cut his hair!?" He shouted. Then he saw Dante, and squinted his eyes in confusion.
Luffy laughed at him, "That's Dante's brother!" He laughed again. Luffy immediately looked like he regretted laughing and complained about needing water.
"Be quiet fools!" Virgil snapped. "Something is coming."
As soon as he got the words out, the ground began to shake. Suddenly, a massive creature appeared in the distance. The creature was about twenty feet tall and stood on two legs. The creature was covered in fur from head to hoof. It had two giant bull horns, and blood red eyes with no pupils. It was carrying a huge metal ball attached to a thick chain. The weapon was clearly sized to the creature.
"Sons of Sparda!" It boomed in a voice that sounded animalistic, and yet human. "Where are you going? Half human scum like you are not welcome in this part of Hell!" The creature stomped one of his hooves as he talked. Suddenly, it began to sniff the air. "Wait.. is that pure human blood I smell? The creature zeroed in on Leon who still had dried blood on his head. The creature went into a fury once it recognized there was a human, and began salivating and showing it's sharp teeth. As if this was a sign, several red blobs appeared all around the group completely surrounding them.
Several smaller human sized creatures of different shapes, and builds appeared where the blobs were. They moved as if they were puppets, but had nothing controlling them visibly. They were all armed with various weapons. Some had sickles, axes, knives, and other blades already stained permanently with blood.
The large bull like creature began charging towards Leon, just as the other creatures began closing in on the group.
"DAMN IT!" Dante exclaimed. Dante and Virgil ran to cut off the bull like creature. Leaving the others to take care of the smaller monsters. However, the creature ran right through the two brothers, and sent them flying into the grouping of smaller creatures on opposite sides of the circle.
The creature dragged the massive steel ball behind it as it ran and suddenly it had both hands on the chain. Stopping and using the momentum it had gained, it swung the ball over it's head and right at the small group of heroes. The ball was directly overhead of them, and closing fast!
