Squall was frustrated. No, beyond frustrated, he was bordering on pissed. He'd received a message from Seifer asking him to come out to the rocky training ground where they had scarred each other. The message had been about Rinoa. That was the part that caused Squall to strap his Lionheart to his hip before going out to meet his old rival. When he arrived, Seifer was already standing there, and Squall put a hand on the hilt of his Gunblade. "What do you want, Seifer? What does this have to do with Rinoa?"

"You stole her from me, you bastard! She was mine before you started sinking your claws into her."
"Really? Is that what you really think?"
"I don't think, I know! You brainwashed her and stole her away, somehow, and I want her back."
"Let me tell you something, Seifer! You're throwing around a lot of serious accusations. It's not hard to tell what you're insinuating. You think I stole her away? If not for me she'd still be yours today?" Squall shrugged, throwing his hand up, as well. "We're both men here, so why play games? Why don't we call a spade a spade? Man-to-man, tell me th truth. Were you ever there when she needed you? Look me in the eye and tell me, if you really loved her, why'd you make her cry? Who cheated who? You're the one to blame. Tell me it's not true. Man-to-man. You think your anger is justified? Me, I think it's just your wounded pride. What did you really think she was going to do? She's a woman, not a doormat for you. You want her back, but it's too late. Why don't we just cut to the chase? Man-to-man, tell me the truth. Were you ever there when she needed you? Look me in the eye and tell me the truth. If you really loved her, why'd you make her cry? Man-to-man, who cheated who? You're the one to blame, and you know it's the truth."

That was the single longest speech the young commander had ever given, but every word of it was heartfelt. Seifer was the one who had broken Rinoa's heart and she had left him long before Squall ever came around. She had told him the whole story one night, shortly after their battle with Ultimecia, and he trusted her a hell of a lot more than he would ever trust Seifer. "This isn't over, Squall! I'm a Sorceress' Knight, I belong by her side."
"Not anymore. She chose me to be her Knight, and I accepted. You're nothing but a lapdog that's been kicked to the curb. I'm done with you." With that, he turned to leave, hearing Seifer scream at him, "I'll fight you for her." He simply replied calmly, "I would destroy you as I am now. You pose no threat, and you stand no chance against me." He gave a backhanded wave as he once again started walking away. "We're done, Seifer. It's over. Go find someone else to attach to." With that, the hero of the Sorceress War, the youngest commander in Garden history, returned to the room he shared with his Sorceress.
