Carlisle Cullen was hard at work, saving lives, delivering babies, the works.
"Room 113, 32 weeks Pregnant, on bedrest, fever." He murmured to himself as he read the chart of his colleague John's patient. Carlisle had taken over some of Jonh's patients for a while, adding extra stress on to already overworked doctor, father, husband, and business owner.
He knocked on the door, and heard a soft "come in".
"Hello, I'm Dr. Carlisle Cullen. I'll be taking over your-." Carlisle paused as he saw the people in the room. Gia and Roger McCarty sat in the room, looking more than slightly displeased at his presence. Great he thought to himself. He cleared his throat and continued "I'll be taking over your case at the request of Dr. Hoagen. He is unfortunately out of the country on business for the hospital. So tell me, how far along are you Mrs. McCarty?"
Grumbling slightly to herself, Gia answered honestly "32 weeks doctor. John assigned me to bedrest for an undetermined amount of time because I'm experiencing pregnancy anemia, fever, and the baby has an irregular heartbeat."
"I'm sorry you're experiencing so many complications ma'am. Have you had these with past pregnancies?"
"No." She replied.
"Well, then let's get you better shall we?" Doctor Carlisle Cullen was a good Doctor; extraordinary. He loved his job, though it took so much of his time away from his home. Doctor Carlisle Cullen was a good doctor, always doing his job to the best of his abilities, sometimes against his better Judgment, such as a case like this. He had always had people judging his decisions, and calling him names, ever since he was but a babe. He could handle it when people attacked him, and his wife could handle it when people attacked her, but when his children were attacked, he turned into a very rude man. That didn't stop him from being a good doctor, always wearing a mask of kindness, he was trained in the art of being a good doctor after all.
Carlisle finished writing notes on the woman in front of him and looked up. "Let's get those fluids changed shall we?"
"Carlisle." Gia stopped the doctor from his work
"Yes?" He asked, his mask fading away as he looked at the woman who was now not a patient. She was a monster of a woman who was making his daughters life hell.
"I don't like you. I don't like your family. I don't like the rich. They make the world a terrible place. They never give anything to anyone, they hoard it for themselves. Not only are you rich, but your daughter is despicable. She is an attention seeking hussy who is corrupting my baby boy. She is two timing my Emmett with that Jasper boy. She broke his heart. You're raising spoiled children who don't work for anything in their lives. I mean, what child drives a Cadillac? You cannot possible think that raising your children to act in such inappropriate ways is befitting of young girls and boys." Gia immediately regretted what she said.
"Gia.." Roger said grabbing her hand "Not now. The man is working."
"No, it's quite alright Roger." Carlisle never called his patient's by their names unless they asked for it, but he wasn't talking to patients right now. He was talking to two bigoted people who tought they had a say in his life. "My daughter is not perfect. She has her faults, as do my sons. However, it does not affect you how she acts, as she is not your daughter."
"She's corrupted my son!"
"Just because you think that your son is acting differently because he dated Bella does not mean that she is the cause behind this Gia. Your son is acting how he wants to. How I parent my children is no concern of yours."
"Now you listen here-" Gia began to say, but she was interrupted by a shake of her husband's head. Roger noticed the darkness in the other man's face, and was trying to save his wife some heartache.
Doctor Carlisle Cullen's face lightened into a happy face of a man caring about all of his patients. "Now, those fluids yes? They are full of nutrients good for not only you, but baby. Let me see your IV arm?" He studied it, and as he turned toward the medicinal bag, his face darkened. Doctor Carlisle Cullen was a good Doctor and he was going to stay that way.
Jasper Hale was pacing the floor of the empty school library, thinking about the current situation he was in.
Jasper Hale was a good friend; the best. Jasper knew he was a good friend. He was always there when his friend needed him.
Jasper Hale was a good friend, until he fell in love. Then he became a good boyfriend.
Jasper Hale was a goof boyfriend until they broke up.
Then Jasper Hale was a good friend again, albeit a good friend in love.
His ears perked and he stopped pacing as the door clicked closed.
"Bella!" Jasper said, excited to see his friend. His face fell when he saw the sad look on her face. "What's wrong?" He asked, wrapping her in his arms and kissing her lips.
"Jasper please."
Japser smirked. "Please what?" he asked, moving to her neck.
"Stop."
Jasper immediately stepped back, and faced the girl he loved. "What is it?
"We need to talk." Jasper curtly nodded his head and sat down.
Bella sat opposite him. "You know I love you Jasper, but I need you to back off. I don't have feelings for you anymore. Those went out the door when I started talking to Emmett. I don't want to lose you Jasper, you're my best friend. But please, stop acting like my boyfriend. Please just give me space. I don't want to lose Emmett, and I don't want to lose you either. Our relationship has to change. Our relationship has to go back to how we were…how we were before this," She gestured between the two of them, "Back to just friends. Without benefits, and without touching. I know I never did anything with you while I was with Emmett, but he didn't like when you touched me intimately, whether you meant anything behind it or not. Please Jazz, I need you to do this for me."
Jasper's heart broke. He knew it was coming. He knew that his best friend, his beloved, was falling for someone else and he couldn't stand it. He nodded.
Bella's face lightened at this. "Thank you Jasper!" She rushed into his arms, and he stiffened. He was going to let her go, for good this time. But he had one thing to ask.
Jasper let his face fall into her hair. He inhaled and worked himself up to asking "Can I ask one thing in return?" Feeling her nod, he continued. "Love me one more time. Please." His voice broke at the end, his eyes filling with tears.
Bella leaned up to him, and kissed him. One last kiss, saying goodbye to her first love, as a lover.
Bella did as she was asked and loved the boy for the last time, knowing how much he was hurting.
Jasper Hale was a good lover. He knew her every tick. He loved her more than anything, and she let him; one last time. Together they came, and let everything fall apart, because to build a new foundation, they had to fall first.
Jasper Hale was a good friend, and now, that's all he was. A good friend.
And it hurt.
Bella Cullen walked with Jasper to her front door. Jasper opened it for her and nodded before walking away. Bella sighed as she watched him, knowing that she had broken his heart, again. She walked into the house, and hearing laughter of small children she groaned, remembering that they were currently housing the McCarty kids.
Avoiding the front room, she walked into the kitchen, and realized that perhaps she should have avoided the kitchen instead. Sitting at the island counter was Alice McCarty and her older brother who looked better than he did this morning.
"Fuck" She whispered under her breath. Realizing that it was too late to walk away, she just continued forward to the fridge.
"Emmett, what are you doing here? I thought you were sick?" She inquired, grabbing a capri sun and sitting on the counter behind her.
"Your mother insisted I come here with the rest of my siblings so she could keep an eye on me and them. She said that I was sick and shouldn't take care of myself. I feel better than I did so I think after tomorrow we can go home. How- How is Jaspers' nose?"
At least he has the gall to look sheepish "It's fine. My dad fixed it right up, and besides, I've given him worse than a bloody nose." Bella laughed.
"Where is Jasper?" Rosalie asked as she walked in behind Edward. "He said that you wanted to talk to him after practice, and that it would only take a minute. You've been at the school for 3 hours." She quirked and eyebrow at Bella, and Bella sighed.
The rest of the room picked up on the hidden meaning behind Bella and Jaspers encounter, assuming the worst. "We were just talking. Bidding farewell to a few things. That's all." She said.
Rosalie and Edward knew the implications, but knew better than to say anything. Rosalie just hoped that Jasper was smart to not leave and parting marks. Emmett and Alice seemed none the wiser to what had really happened when the two were saying good-bye.
Upstairs, a door was slammed, and the silence was interrupted. "Jasper Hale I swear to God, if you slam my door one more time!" Esme's voice rang throughout the house, effectively breaking the awkwardness.
Emmett laughed. "You know, your mother reminds me of my own, when she's not being a shrewd." Alice hit his arms, but quirked a smile as well.
Bella looked at Emmett and asked what she had been working towards for a week and a half. "Emmett, will you take a walk with me?"
"Sure." Finishing his sandwich in one gulp, he walked out the door, shoulder stiff, joking gone.
Four months had passed since Emmett and Bella had worked through their relationship problems and they were currently in bed together, sleeping. Though, the rumpled sheet proved that they hadn't always been sleeping.
Bella's eyes opened as she ran to the bathroom to throw up. Sighing she returned to the bed, and snuggled up to her boyfriend.
The next morning Emmett woke up next to the love of his life, recalling the night before. He smiled as he stretched his arms and legs, unintentionally kicking Bella in the shin.
"Stop moving you big dummy." She said into the pillow, "I'm trying to sleep."
Emmett laughed and pulled her into him, sad that the weekend was over. He didn't want to go to school, though they only had a few more weeks left, he still hated school. "You have to wake up Bells. It's nearly," He paused and looked at the clock on his phone, "6:30"
"Oh god" She moaned, not wanting to leave bed at such an ungodly hour. "Go without me. Give me five more minutes."
Five minutes turned to an hour, and Bella jumped out of the comfort of her warm bed at the door slamming open.
"Get your Lazy ass up for school, you missed breakfast." Edward said, throwing a pancake at his younger sister.
Bella groaned at the smell, feeling nauseous.
"Is she up yet? Tell her that I want her to wear the shirt I got her yesterday!" Rosalie said, walking into the room after her boyfriend. "Morning beautiful!" She sang at her best friend.
"I wouldn't call her beautiful" Jasper said, joining the conversation outside of the girl's door. "I mean, look at her hair. She looks like shit."
Snickering at their friend's expense, they let her get ready, and hopped into the car to go to school. Bella did indeed look like shit, "I can't believe you let me sleep in so late!" She whined as she tried to apply her make-up in the car. After going over another bump, she sighed and resigned to wearing only mascara.
"Well maybe if you'd go to bed at night you'd sleep more. But I can't say I blame you for not sleeping. Sounded like quite the party in there last night. Oh god, oh god, Emmett!" Edward imitated her voice and Rosalie joined in on the fun.
"Bella you're so kinky. That's right put your toe in my mouth."
"Oh my god you guys leave me alone!" She laughed at her own expense.
"Anything you say, sex-kitten." Jasper laughed.
Bella groaned when Jasper said that, because thought the tow thing was an exaggeration, the sex-kitten wasn't. Face reddening, Bella huffed and looked out the window.
"Oklahoma!" She said suddenly, hitting Jasper as hard as she could."
"Ow! No, not this again!"
The rest of the drive to school as full of laughter, how it use to be when they were kids.
Emmett met Bella at the school, opening the car door for her, and grabbing her around the waist he kissed her on the lips. Walking together, they talked about life. "How is the baby? I assume you went home to grab more clothes?"
"Yeah I did. He's good, Baby Wes enjoys eating, sleeping, pooping, and when he's not doing that, crying. He never sleeps by the way. I'm so glad that your parents let me stay over until he gets a little more adjusted. Mom is still mad that I stay over though. She really doesn't like your family. Dad does though. Do you have to work tonight?"
"No I don't, well, I meant I manage the place so I kind come and go as I please. Do you?" Bella replied.
"Until 7. Do you want to go on a date later tonight?" Emmett asked.
"Of course." She smiled up at him. "I love you." She said, eyes glowing.
"I love you too. Here's your locker, I'll see you after class yeah?"
She nodded and stood on her toes, leaning in to kiss him heavily.
A wolf whistle was heard as they pulled apart. "Get a room, please, spare my virgin eyes!" Jasper complained lightheartedly, opening his locker next to Bella's'.
Though if you looked close enough, you could see that he was faking the lightheartedness, because all he wanted to do was be the one be her side. He wanted to be the one who kissed her good-bye, and walk her to classed. He knew he couldn't, he signed that right away when he let her go. Instead, he walked over to his girlfriend this week and gave her a kiss, resigned to walking her to class. He didn't like her all that much, but she was a good fuck after all, and she was pretty, when she wasn't talking. "Hey Jessica." He said, pushing all thought of his best friend Bella out of his head and heart.
Jasper Hale was a good friend after all.
Well that ending was ominous. But It's not the end of the story, though I know that I'm terrible and never ever update. I just lose ideas and motivation and idk man I just don't think I'm that good of a writer.
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed the latest installment of Hallway Meetings. As you can see, Bella worked out things with Emmett, and has spaced herself from Jasper, being proper friends now, not too close.
I liked this chapter. It was fun to write. I hope you did too!
