I would die for you
I would die for you
I've been dying just to feel you by my side,
To know that you're mine...
I will cry for you
I will cry for you
I will wash away your pain with all my tears,
And drown your fear…

- Interlude 1 -
The Goddess and the Girlfriend/ The Immortal and the Half-Breed
The Goddess, also called
Sekai was not the best with time. Being a goddess – no, administrator – tended to skew your perception of time. It wasn't the immortality, but rather it was the sheer omniscience that came with the territory. Her boss had assigned her to watch over Earth-207 and any resulting timelines related to its continuity.
It was a job she had been doing for longer than the planet itself actually existed.
She had seen the planet die many times over, whether it be from outside forces, natural causes, or humanity's own thrice damned ignorance. But about 20 millennia ago or so, something completely unexpected happened.
The humans made contact with the supernatural, and began coexisting with them.
Needless to say, the development not only changed the course of several timelines, but also made Sekai feel very, very, happy. Earth-207 had finally adapted in a similar vein to her sister's jurisdiction, Earth-223.
She figured this is what a mother feels when seeing her child accomplishing something.
….
It was a rather nice feeling, she decided.
The humans and other beings she watched over were like her children – her lambs, so it only makes sense that it hurt her to see the inhabitants of the various versions of Earth-207 go to war against each other. But at the same time, Sekai knew that conflict was inevitable and necessary for their development.
No matter how much she wished that weren't the case.
So when the humans started to get along with their supernatural counterparts, she hoped that maybe some conflicts could be avoided this time.
She was wrong. Even with magic and a new perspective, technology only improved a little and the masses were still as ignorant as ever. If anything, the discovery of magic had led to even worse conflict. Top magicians and politicians were able to order hits on their foes without ever being suspected.
After all, simply knowing that magic killed a man – in a world of magicians nonetheless – wasn't enough to condemn anyone. And that only made people more power-hungry. The world still stayed the same; the strong lorded above the weak and imposed their will upon them.
And then her boss asked her to fulfill her true duty.
Earth-207 wasn't simply her jurisdiction. It was a breeding ground for weapons.
Living weapons.
It was one of the few worlds that knew of the intricate workings of other worlds, even if only through their so-called 'fiction'.
In reality, they all received visions of other worlds from her. And what they did with those visions was up to them.
Long story short, Sekai chose a dying young adult with the power of the [Nihil Grimoire] inside of him. His abilities and Sight were a perfect match for his new purpose. His soul also was readily accepting of his remade body. It was something that pleased her greatly; she knew he could adapt to his surroundings. He was a fledgling magician, so learning about his new powers wasn't necessarily a problem.
The real problem...
It was her problem.
…
...
Sekai was a bleeding heart. The boy's recent memories had peaked her interest, and so did the strings that connected his souls to those of his friends. It was a contradiction. The powers of the [Nihil Grimoire] tended to manifest early on, making its wielders antisocial and often terribly aggressive.
Hell, the entire branch of magic that the [Nihil Grimoire]belonged to was frowned upon across entire dimensions. The whole concept of being that close to [Ancient Ones], even if [Oblivion] branch users weren't directly touched by [them], wasn't exactly something that sat well with the [Administrators] or [Guardians].
Considering this, Sekai just couldn't fathom how her possible new [Guardian] had maintained the bonds that he had.
It was odd. And anything involving her precious little lambs was something she needed to know.
So the deceptively young goddess plucked at the strings connecting her recent visitor – Mikhael, one of her lambs – to his friends from across dimensions.

I will pray for you
I will pray for you
I will sell my soul for something pure and true,
Someone like you…
See your face every place that I walk in,
Hear your voice every time I am talking
You will believe in me
And I will never be ignored…
The Girlfriend, named
Luna, which was really a nickname given to her by her beloved, was a mess. Her real name, Selene, wasn't necessarily something she appreciated. It was a name given to her by her mother, who left her father and her when she was three. She had shown up four years later, proclaiming her love to her father, who readily accepted her back.
It disgusted her.
She knew why her mother left her father. He was an accessory. He was a member of her mother's harem; another fool who she had led on.
Her mother wasn't like the rest of her kind. She had no need for a mate, and so reveled in the very debauchery that ruined their race and started wars all across history. But in exchange for not needing a mate, her mother had no need to truly feed on the mana of men.
Her mother was truly an elite succubus.
Luna loved Mikhael with all of her being. He was her everything, whether he knew it or not. At first it was simply instincts, but over time she fell in love with every aspect of him. He was there for her when her father died, and was her knight whenever she was in trouble – not that she truly needed protection – but the thought of it made her feel so warm inside.
But that brought her to her next problem. Luna was a succubus, and as such fed on the mana of men. And since she was a half-breed, her body was not adapted to her own sex drive.
She was scared. If she lost Mikhael due to a lack of self control, let alone lose him at all, she would lose herself. Whether he knew it or not, he completed her. And she didn't simply mean her natural need for a beloved – a mate. He accepted her clumsiness, her complaints, her problems. He might think that he was nowhere close to empathetic or understanding, but he so readily accepted her emotions.
He accepted her, and that meant more to her than anyone else could imagine.
In retrospect, her fear-filled logic might not have been the best, considering her solution to her lust problem was to screw other men. Maybe if she had just confided truly everything to her mate, it all could have been avoided.
She pondered these thoughts and memories as the man holding on to her filled her with his seed. It made her feel cold, almost as cold as when Mikhael had walked in and given her that empty gaze. Her eyes remained cloudy, even after he beat up the man in their room and left, ignoring her pleas to speak to her.
Ignored.
She hurt him.
Wasn't she just like her mother now? The mother she despises so much?
Something behind her gaze broke as she grabbed the man from his slumped position on the wall. His eyes lit up for a moment, perhaps expecting her to continue their session. That light quickly turned to fear as she grabbed him by the throat and pinned him to the wall, continuously applying pressure as her golden horns curled from her head.
"Why? Why did I hurt him? My mate is gone...my mate..." The man gazed at her, his face turning red, eyes quivering with fear. Luna stared back, gaze still as unhinged as before.
"my...MATE. IS GONE."
A squeeze, a strangled plea for help, and a sickening crack echoing throughout the room divulged the end of a poor soul's life…
And the removal of his skull.
.
.
.
She lost him. She lost him again. His broken body lay cradled in her arms, blood seeping from his mouth, leg twisted at an awkward angle. He wasn't dead. He was just injured...right? She could heal him...right?
Right?
"Wake up." She poured more and more magic into his body. "Wake up!"
He wasn't breathing.
"Mikhael, please wake up, please don't leave me–!" She felt the hot, salty tears roll down her cheeks.
"Please. Not again. Please don't leave me again."
…
…
The cold body in her arms didn't respond.
SCRSSSHHHH
"Come in Oracle, this is Executioner. The target has been eliminated. Proceeding to remove witnesses."
Target? A fucking target?
Luna whirled around, fangs bared, horns and wings in full view. A few of her red and black feathers floated around her body, enraptured by her own aura.
The man from the car – Executioner, he had called himself – sighed as he screwed a silencer onto his weapon. "How unprofessional. I must be losing my touch if I messed up the operation this badly." A couple more steps, and he changed the clip. "For what it's worth, you weren't meant to see your 'mate' die. In fact," He gave a sarcastic smile as he checked his weapon – he still didn't quite understand what she was, did he? "you were meant to die as well, or at least not remember this event. Blunt trauma really does wonders for memory loss, I'll have you know."
Executioner looked up, and the color drained from his face. He wasn't looking at some foolish, slutty girlfriend like he had expected.
He was looking at a vindictive succubus.
It was a well known thing around the world that succubi had mates, but many generally assumed that the lusty nature of succubi would lead them to not care about losing them. Unfortunately for the rookie assassin code-named Executioner,
This was far from the case.
She charged at him, the magic around her body either dissolving or deflecting the bullets fired at her.
Theoretically, any bystanders that were foolish enough to stay nearby would have described Luna as a whirlwind of fury and blood. However, none truly were foolish enough to stay nearby. But that did not prevent one deceptively young goddess from looking on from a rooftop as the young half-breed succubus tore the assassin limb from limb, screaming in grief all the while.
The goddess smiled. Perhaps it wouldn't hurt to take on one more [Guardian].

I will burn for you
Feel pain for you
I will twist the knife and bleed my aching heart,
And tear it apart…
I will lie for you
Beg and steal for you
I will crawl on hands and knees until you see,
You're just like me…
The Immortal and the Half-Breed, called
Sekai and Luna respectively, met face to face in an alleyway.
The Immortal sat on no throne, and her smile was like that of a predator's.
The Half-Breed wore gauze bandages on her forearms, hands, and legs. Blood stained her clothes, none of it hers. Her right hand was encased in a crude, yet horribly deadly clawed gauntlet, stained red with the life of whoever she deemed fit.
She was judge, jury and executioner.
The irony of that phrase was not lost upon her, she took no humor from it.
Eyes of starry skies and galaxies met cold jade chips, and a mocking smile faced a blank visage. "You can see him again, you know. I can take you to him. Anything for my precious lambs."
Desperation is a wondrous, terrible, terrifying, monstrous thing. It twists the hearts of lovers and ends the lives of children.
It destroys the innocence of true love. It fuels the flames of a need.
An obsession.
Cold jade chips of ice shone with unhealthy interest.
.
.
.
.
Desperation...is a cursed thing. A lust for something lost. For something that wasn't necessarily meant to be.
…
And so the wheels of fate turned, just a little bit faster.
.
.
There is no knight for you; he died that night.
Be careful what you wish for.
Violate all the love that I'm missing
Blow away all the pain that I'm living
You will believe in me,
And I can never be ignored…
…
I would die for you...
I would kill for you...
I would steal for you
I'd do time for you...
I will wait for you...
I'd make room for you...
I'd sail ships for you...
To be close to you...
To be a part of you...
Cause I believe in you...
I believe in you...
I would die for you.

A/N: This chapter is to set a trend for the story. Interludes will be a way for further world building and character development. I'll add them as I feel that they are needed.
Please note that Executioner's demeanor and actions show that he is a rookie (Having an empty clip in his gun initially, monologuing because he thinks it sounds cool, not looking at his new target, not reading his mission files as you can tell) and that there is a time skip at the end part of the Interlude.
Now then, each major character has glaring flaws, and Interludes will generally expose them so that they are more noticeable and understandable when they come into play. And they also act as further exposition/backstory, so they are indeed essential to the story.
Also, before people ask about this, I will outright say that Luna and Mikhael don't necessarily have a very healthy relationship. They each have their own fears, and are overly dependent on each other. Fun fact: Their relationship is also partially screwed up because of what Luna is. Succubi are known for draining life force/mana/whatever and are generally lusty. So an overdependent succubus girlfriend with fears of ending up like her mother, who she hates…
Yeah, recipe for disaster.
See you guys next time.
(P.S. Do feel free to ask me about things in the story, but I won't tell spoilers. Oh, and I'm starting to work on a partially serious/partially crack romance story for RWBY called Hard Coded. So look for that when it's out.)
