Part 2: New Recruits
"Who is this new Titan we're supposed to meet?" Beast Boy asked.
"He calls himself Bunker," Red Robin stated.
"Never heard of him," Conner replied.
"He's from Mexico, a diplomat's son," Red Robin added.
"What does he do?" Cassie asked.
"He's able to create what looks like bricks with his mind."
"I think I met that guy," Beast Boy said. "He was one of N.O.W.H.E.R.E.'s targets.
"You're right, we did meet him briefly, then he disappeared," Cassie replied.
"Didn't he help you rescue me from Cadmus?" Conner asked.
"It's possible, but I don't remember him staying with us."
"Well, now he's asking to join the team," Red Robin stated as he looked over the name. He did sound familiar, but he wasn't sure from where. Wait, son of a diplomat? Oh no, it can't be. Not from that disastrous cotillion. 'I just hope he doesn't bring that up. Luckily, he won't recognize me.'
"Are you going to let him?" Beast Boy asked.
"It's just the few of us," Cassie said. "Though we could use a few more girls on this team."
"You keep forgetting about Raven and Kara."
"Raven isn't here very often and neither is Kara."
"What about that big tin guy?" Conner asked.
"That's Cyborg and technically, he's with the Justice League," Red Robin replied.
"What's he doing here?"
"He's with me," Beast Boy replied. "We're kind of inseparable."
"Oh, you mean you two . . . " Cassie smirked.
"Hell NO!" Beast Boy replied with a shocked look on his face. "We're just good friends. We both come with the Tower. We're kind of a matched set."
"Don't forget Raven, Gar," Red Robin replied.
"Still, I don't understand."
"Cyborg, Raven, and Beast Boy were Titans when Nightwing was a Titan," Red Robin explained. They just decided to stay on, that's all. Now, can we get on with this meeting?"
"Where is this Bunker?"
"Waiting outside in the lounge."
Conner used his X-Ray vision to look through the wall. He could see the teen was juggling bricks while he was waiting. He looked cute, but he wasn't his type. "Looks interesting."
"Well, send him in," Red Robin stated.
Conner went out to meet the possible, newest member. "Hey, brick boy," Conner called out. "Leader wants to meet you."
Migel Jose Banagan looked at the beefy teen and tossed a tiny brick at his head. "No one calls me brick boy, amigo. My name is Bunker," the teen in purple replied with a Mexican accent.
"Whatever," Conner replied. "Red wants to talk to you."
Migel got up from where he was sitting and walked toward the room where the teen with the large red S on the front of his black shirt pointed. He got a good look at the large teen and noticed his build, his blue eyes, and short, dark cropped hair. He was handsome in a rugged sort of way, but the boy was not his type. He had his eyes on someone else, but the boy had not paid him any attention at the time. It was difficult when some female had her hooks into him as soon as they met. It made that evening go so slowly that he had decided to leave early.
When Migel entered the conference room his eyes fell on the one called Red Robin. Now here was someone more his type. He wasn't beefy or overly tall. He had a serious look on his face. Migel wished he could see the eyes behind the mask that he wore. 'I bet his eyes are blue, but a different shade from that S-boy's eyes. I don't know why I would think that,' Migel thought. 'There is something familiar about his face.'
'So, Bunker," Red Robin addressed the new member of his team. "Can you tell me something about yourself that isn't listed in your file."
"My padre is a diplomat," Migel stated. "My name is Migel Jose Banagan."
"We already know that."
"I am gay," Migel stated. "And you are quite handsome," Bunker flirted.
Red Robin blushed. "I've been told that."
"Ah, your face is red," Migel smiled. "Just like your chest."
Red Robin had to keep from becoming flustered. There were snickers all around the table. "Look, I'm trying to conduct an interview here. If you're going to be a part of this team, you'll need to conduct yourself in a professional manner."
"You are cute when you are, how you say, nervous."
"Migel . . ." Red Robin warned.
"All right, very well, what is it that you want to know?"
"Your bricks, can you make anything with them?"
"Of course, I can even use them to levitate," Bunker replied.
"Well, that would help in an emergency."
"I can make them as small as I want or as large as you . . . "
Cyborg came in at the moment interrupting the meeting. "Red Robin, we have a situation."
"What is it Cyborg?"
"You'll need to come see it."
Red Robin followed Cyborg out of the conference room to the communications center.
"There's a hostage situation and the police are requesting back-up."
"How many hostages?"
"The whole building."
"Who's holding the hostages?"
"Some terrorist group demanding the release of someone by the name of King Snake."
"I'm familiar with him," Red Robin stated. "His real name is Sir Edmond Dorrance."
"They want him released or they start killing hostages, ten every hour."
"How many people are in that building?"
"1200, men and woman."
Red Robin turned toward his team mates. His eyes fell on Bunker. "Looks like you're getting a chance to demonstrate what you can do in the field. Come on team, let's make tracks. Those hostages aren't coming out alive without our help."
Migel grinned. He was ready to prove he could be not only a part of the team, but he was going impress his new leader, and hopefully that new leader would be so impressed that he would show his gratitude later.
