Part 4: Curve Ball

"Will you stop fussing," Red Robin complained.

"I'm really sorry, mi amigo," Bunker stated. "I did not see you."

"You need to listen to your com-link," Red Robin said. "I said I was going in."

"Take it easy, Red," Beast Boy stated. "Maybe there was something wrong with his com-link."

"Then have it checked by Cyborg." Red Robin shook his head. He was lucky this was a simple rescue mission. Bunker did prove himself to a point. Though there was no excuse for having a com-link that wasn't working. "I'm going home for a while. It's been a month since I've seen everyone."

"Going to see that girl of yours?" Conner asked. There was a hint of jealousy in Conner's voice.

"How do you know about her?"

"I've flown around."

"Been spying on me?" Red asked.

"Well . . . "

"Conner, spying on people is unbecoming of a Titan."

"I'd like to meet her."

Red Robin sighed. "She's got to get used to me being Red Robin yet. Meeting you guys will overwhelm her."

"She knows you're Red Robin?" Raven asked.

"What's her name?" Beast Boy asked. "And is she cute? I bet she wouldn't resist me."

Red Robin chuckled. "You wish. You always think you're God's gift to women. You suffer from love addiction."

"If I can give them love, they are better for it. So, what's her name."

"I'm not telling you just so you can try to steal her from me," Red Robin teased.

Bunker was disgruntled. He had a girlfriend? Maybe they'll break up. Was he even interested in guys. Bunker sulked. Even so, he needed to know if he passed the test. "So, mi amigo, am I now a member?"

"Not yet," Red Robin replied. "We'll need to see what you do against a super-villain. You can stay here if you wish. Some of the other Titans do. They make this place their home. Someone can show you where the sleeping quarters are."

"Why can't you?" Bunker said, coyly.

"Because I'm heading home."

"You do not live here?"

'No," Red Robin replied. "I only stay here when it's my time to monitor. I don't usually go out on missions during that time. And I've got classes coming up."

'You attend school?"

"Yeah."

"I have a private tutor," Bunker replied.

"Some of us don't. I'll see everyone in a couple of months, unless it's an absolute emergency," Red Robin headed to the zeta tub. Just because he tested out of high school that did not mean he needed to tell everyone his business. As far as the rest of the Titans knew, he was still a high school student just like them. It gave him an excuse to be able to go home and spend some time with his brothers and his girlfriend.

Bunker watched as his love interest left through the zeta tube. "Does anyone know where he goes?"

"I tried to find out one time," Beast Boy stated. "I ended up in some cave. Then he caught me in a glass jar and sent me back."

"Why didn't you transform?"

"He activated the zeta tube before I could think to transform.

"So, he lives in some cave, like a bat?"

"Funny you should say that . . . "

Red Robin entered the zeta tube and as it transported him to the cave, the record of his chosen location was wiped from the system. His Titan friends knew enough, that his name was Tim Drake, but they didn't know exactly where he lived. At least not all of them. Conner was the only one who knew more. Apparently, Conner has taken an interest not only in him, but in his girlfriend as well. Conner was an enigma at times. Red Robin could sense Conner's eyes on him on several occasions. It made him feel uncomfortable at times. He would distance himself, not letting anyone get close. It usually worked.

Red Robin breathed a sigh of relief as he exited the zeta tube and removed his mask. He was glad to be home. Tm wanted to rush to the locker room, get changed, and see Sammie when someone else barreled into him and lifted him into the air.

"Dick!? What do you think you're doing?"

"Welcoming my little brother home."

"You know you could have come to the tower. You're still a Titan."

"An off duty, Titan," Dick reminded Tim. "You're in charge, and have been now for almost three years. And you have been doing a great job."

"I came home to see Sammie."

"You didn't come home to see me?" Dick feigned a frown then pouted. "I'm hurt."

"Aw come on, Dick," Tim whined.

"I'm just teasing."

"Can I get a shower, please."

Dick gave a sniff. "You are a little ripe." Dick moved to the showers as he continued to carry Tim in his arms. "So, you didn't have time to shower while you were there?

"I wanted to come home and shower. Dick, I can walk," Tim complained.

Dick didn't answer, but continued to the showers and started the water in of the stalls. "Here you go little brother, all ready for you."

Tim smirked and gave a little laugh. "Thanks, Dick, but it wasn't necessary."

"It was for me."

Tim was a little curious as to why Dick was being a little clingy. He couldn't have heard of the hostage situation or the fact that Bunker, his new teammate, practically dropped a load of bricks on him during a routine rescue mission. Maybe Dick just missed him. After Tim took a shower and changed into some pajamas for the night, he came out to find Dick still waiting for him.

"I thought you would have gone back up to the Manor."

"I decided to wait for you."

"Dick, I'm a big boy," Tim said. "I can go to bed on my own."

"I know, but . . . "

"You missed me," Tim finished Dick's statement. "Dick, what is going on. You could do this for Damian, even for Jason, though Jason has his wife to tuck him in."

'I don't know, you've been gone a month."

"I know, I've missed everyone, too."

"Come on, little brother. I'll tuck you in bed. What will it hurt?"

"My pride," Tim teased.

Dick ruffled Tim's wet hair.

"Is there something you're not telling me?"

"No," Dick tried to sound nonchalant. "Everything's fine. No need to worry."

"Dick, be honest. I'm not a little kid where you have to protect me from bad news."

"You're right," Dick admitted. "Remember when you got hurt from the Joker."

"Yeah, how could I forget. I had nightmares for a week."

"Well, Sasha went after the Joker and got raped by two men. She almost lost the babies."

"Why didn't anyone tell me," Tim was shocked. He never expected in a million years that Sasha would do something like that.

"Anyway, since then, things have been different between her and Jason. She seemed like her old self at the party, but you did notice when we got back to the Manor she disappeared on us."

"I did notice that."

"I know it's been more like six weeks since that happened, but Jason, he's been acting kind of strange this week since you've been gone, too. One minute he's on cloud nine, and the next he's grumbling."

"That seems normal to me," Tim stated.

"Anyway, it's bedtime, and we'll find out in the morning."

"Dick, don't do this to me," Tim complained.

"Do what?"

"Leave me wondering what happened since I've been gone for a month. I haven't even seen Sammie yet either, and you're telling me about Jason acting strange just before I go to bed. Now I'm going to be thinking about it all night."

"Sorry, baby bird, I didn't know my news was going to cause you to lose sleep."

"Dick, that's even worse. What's the news you have about Jason."

"Well . . . um . . .You're not going to believe this. But Jason's not your biological brother."

He's not?"

"No, the test was messed up."

"That's got to be devastating for Jason. Is that all? Maybe this news could have waited until morning. Now I'm going to feel depressed."

"Well, there is a little more."

"More? What could be more?"

"Brace yourself, or maybe you should sit down."

"I can't, you're carrying me," Tim pointed out. "And we should be to my room by now."

"Oh right," Dick said, giving a slight blush to his cheeks. He carried Tim the rest of the way and entered Tim's room and placed him down on his bed. "Well, okay, here's the news. You aren't going to believe this, but we discovered who Jason's Dad is."

"Jason's Dad, I thought we already knew that. He was killed by Two-Face."

"Turns out he was Jason's stepdad," Dick pointed out. "Jason's Dad is alive."

"He is, that's great, I think. Then again, maybe not. He might want custody of Jason from Bruce, but then it doesn't matter since Jason's 18."

"Oh, there's nothing to worry when it comes to that."

"I don't understand."

"What I'm trying to say is, Bruce is Jason's Dad."
