Chapter 3

Meeting Lord Death

After five minutes, Kid regain his composure after collapsing over Ayumi's asymmetrical bow. He and his two weapon partners accompanied her to see the DWMA's headmaster. After walking for a few minutes, they stopped in front of a large door that was at the end of one the passage in the academy, which of course was marked with a skull that said 'Death Room'. Kid opened it, and now they were walking through a tunnel of torii which were styled to look like guillotines. After crossing all gates, the four of them arrived at the main part of the Death Room, and they saw two people talking there, a black figure and a redhead man who was wearing a suit with a tie that look like a holy cross. They were Lord Death the headmaster, and Spirit who was known as one of the death scythes.

"Father, Ayumi is here," Kid said to the black figure.

"Ah, Kid, thank you for bringing her here," said Lord Death in a high-pitched squeaky voice, and then he turned his head to look at the young girl. "Hello, Ayumi, I'm glad to meet you. I am Lord Death, the headmaster of the DWMA, and this one here is Spirit, my partner and friend."

"A pleasure to meet you, young lady," said the redhead man as he pulled his left hand rom his pocket to wave it at Ayumi. She waved back at him, but she was a little concerned of Lord Death's appearance. She knew he was a reaper, but he wasn't really that terrifying. At least he looked like a real one to her. It's probably for the best she rather not know what his true form is.

"It's really nice to meet you too sir," Ayumi said bowing her head. She needed to be more respectful to the headmaster, she wouldn't want to be rude on her meeting in the academy.

"Now, now, there's no need to be so formal," said Lord Death. "I'm glad you're here now, there's something we must discuss about before you start your first day tomorrow."

"What is it?" she asked.

"Now, you know this academy is a place where young meisters and weapons train to protect the world from imbalance, correct?"

Ayumi nodded her head.

"This city has many dangerous threats roaming around, some tend to hide in dark alleyways at night. The citizens in Death City can easily get into peril with these monstrosities known as the Kishins, as a Death God it is my responsibility to make sure the world remains in balance of life and death. Anyone who's willing to break the balance is a threat. That goes for witches as well, not all of them are evil, but rather mischievous. However, most of these witches are scheming, and at times can be up to no good. It's very important to be on your guard in case you ever run into one." Ayumi was astonished by the information the headmaster gave her. She'll make sure to keep all that in mind.

"And another thing," Lord Death pointed his big index finger up. "The academy has just finished its reconstruction after the battle with the first kishin Asura. Everything is back to normal of course, but things will not always be different from here on out. Asura may be dead, but I still fear that the same incident might occur again. And because of that, I have to be sure that the students are ready for any new threat that's yet to come. Which is why we accepted more students into the EAT class. It's very important that we contain a larger amount of combatants than before."

"Asura." Ayumi remembered that name. It belonged to the very first kishin in history. She heard about it back in her hometown, the girls in her school would talk about all the major events that was happening the were happening in Death City. To think that Asura was even capable of plunging the world in complete madness.

But even in death, his ambitions could pass on to another. Just like what Lord Death said.

"Is there anything else you wish to know?" Lord Death began to ask. "I've heard from your parents that you are in need of special care of something."

"Yes, that's right," Ayumi reached into front pocket of her luggage and pulled out a piece of paper, and handed it over to the headmaster. He began to read every single word written in it, behind his mask his eyes must been scanning down the paper.

"Ah, I see," he nodded. "According to this prescription, you were born with a mental problem. Your parents have also recommend that you speak with a professional, so that you remained stable."

"Yes, that's right." Ayumi lowered her head.

Everyone excluding Lord Death and Ayumi were in bomb shelled, except for Patty who was just giggling like a five-year-old.

"Well, no need to worry," the head in gleeful tone. "We have a new concelore this year, she's very nice. I think she'll be willing to help you out with any problems your facing."

"That's good to hear," Ayumi said in relief. "I was worried, that guys would send to a therapist or something."

"Oh no, no,no!" Lord Death said while waving his big hands in surrender. "We've wouldn't do that. That's why the academy has hired a counsel for students who are dealing with personal issues. You'll be happy to know that your not the only one going through a mental illness."

This made Ayumi rethink her point of view of the academy. Just like her old schools, it even had a counselor for students to talk to. Even though she had no idea what the classes are like, it already seem like a decent place. Her friends back at home were more cautious about the school and and rumors stating that it was freakishly creepy, even though they never knew what it was like on the inside. Her grandmother did attended the academy before, and she told her that it wasn't as bad as it people say it is.

"I've prepared your apartment to where you'll be staying," Lord Death said. "I fix it up nice and neat to make you feel comfortable."

Spirit handed Ayumi a small sheet of paper with the address to her new apartment.

"Thanks," Ayumi said. "I'll keep that in mind."

"My daughter is also here in the academy," the death styche added. "She's a two-star meister, you should get to know her, she's very nice."

"Really," Ayumi raised a brow in interest. "She sounds interesting, I hoped to meet her tomorrow."

"Don't worry you will," The redhead man assured. "She's in the same class as Kid, you'll definitely see her."

"Cool!" Ayumi said excited.

To think that the Reaper's death scythe also has a child. She wondered what she looked like, it'd be great to meet another girl her age to hang out with. Especially since now that Isbelle is faraway, and Fumiko is studying in a university. Even though she used to hang out with old friends back in grade school but most of would either move away or not talk to her anymore. Maybe things will be different here in Death City, this will be a chance for her to make something out of it. Her parents would want that too, after all it's a good opportunity to meet new people.

"Your parents have mention to me that your attending as a weapon," Lord Death spoke. "As I mentioned, this academy is a place where meisters and weapons partener up, you'll be happy to know that there's plenty of meisters without a weapon. There's a chance you might actually find someone you can match soul wavelengths with!"

Ayumi lowered her head in deep sulk. This startled everyone in the Death Room, normally a weapon would be happy to hear that there was meisters available in the academy.

"Actually Lord Death," Ayumi lifted her her head. "I was wondering if I could volunteer as a solo weapon, if that's okay."

The room went completely silent for a moment. As far as Lord Death remembered, there hasn't been a solo weapon since Justin Law. Sure, he manage to himself into a Death Scythe, but he was incredibly skilled, it was such a power that no one else one had. It's quite unusual for another weapon to possess the same ability, especially for someone like Ayumi. A battle Ax like her couldn't have the same abilities as a guillotine could she? Then again, she might end up being could she? Then again, she might end up being a second solo weapon to become a Death Scythe. It would be very difficult, but with a little training, she might be able to accomplish it.

"Of course you can," he replied. "I don't see why not."

Everyone in the room became astonished by Lord Death's acceptance, they didn't expect this to happen.

"But sir-" Spirit spoked up but was interrupted by the headmaster.

"It's alright," he assured. "Sure, it's not often to have a solo student in the academy, but that doesn't mean it's unacceptable."

"But, what if she changes her mind?" Kid asked.

"That's acceptable as well," the headmaster replied. "A student is allowed to change their statue if they please. There's no rush into deciding yet. She has the right to take her time if she needs it."

"Thank you," Ayumi said.

"Sure thing," Lord Death said in his casual high-pitched voice.

"Just so you know Ayumi," Spirit said. "Being a solo weapon is not easy to accomplished, very few have manage to succeed. As a recommendation you might need a meister sooner or later."

"But that's why I'm here," Ayumi sai with conviction. "I came here to learn how to maintain my powers, if I train hard enough. I might be able to pull it off with no trouble."

"That's the kind of weapon we're looking for!" Lord Death commented cheerfully.

"Yeah! You tell em girl!" Patty shouted leading everyone in the Death Room to sweatdrop.

Lord Death handed the young weapon a piece of paper that had the address of her new apartment.

"We'd look forward to seeing you in class tomorrow morning, get plenty of and take good care of yourself." Lord Death said.

Ayumi bowed her head in respect. "Thank you." She waved everyone goodbye and left the Death Room along with her language.

"You get going too Kid," The Headmaster addressed his son. "You and the girls have to show Ayumi the way to class tomorrow."

"Right father," Kid nodded and left the Death Room along with his weapon partners.

Ayumi headed back to Death City and picked a ride for a taxi, when she got inside she told the driver the address to her apartment then he took off. Once it arrived to her destination she tipped the driver and waved him goodbye. It seems like there lots of friendly people in this city.

She went up to the landlord and receive a key to her door. When she found the number of her house door she push the key in the keyhole and twist the doorknob to open it, Her looked pretty much like an average house, the living had a nice comfy couch and a TV. The kitchen looked decent with the stove perfect for cooking a meal, a microwave, and a fridge.

There wasn't much in it beside milk, fruit, and some bread. She'll have to do some grocery shopping before she starts class tomorrow in the morning. Her room had the basics, a bed, closet, closet, dresser, and desk which is perfect for studying and doing homework. Only thing that's missing decoration such as bedsheets and posters for the wall.

Her parents will be sending all her stuff from her old room in at least a week, so she doesn't need to worry about it. All that's left now is to order something for takeout, take a nice hot bath and call it a night. Luckily, she packed her laptop and brought it to her new desk. Good thing, she always kept her own hot-spot wifi.

Tomorrow was going to be her first at the DWMA, and she couldn't wait for all the wonders that were waiting for her.
