There is a slight shift in the bed as Jack gets up for the day.
Nami peeks from underneath the covers at him. It's very early in the morning. She knows she's supposed to be used to this by now seeing as though they've been married for a year, but sometimes she wishes he would just stay in bed until at least 11 AM. For her sake. And not because she's mad that he gets up at the crack of dawn, but because having his arms around her while she sleeps has become somewhat of a comfort to her. He doesn't know it, but she always wakes up when he does. Even though he is as quiet as a mouse.
She watches as he slips into his work clothes. It always amazes her how happy he seems to do this day in and day out. Although she knows he's going to have a long day working on the farm where she now lives with him. Back before they were married she would sometimes come to it while she was on her walks through Forget-Me-Not-Valley. She would see Jack out there in the fields, milking the cow, or coming out of a shed with that same exact energy that bewilders her.
"How can he be so happy?" She would wonder to herself.
But this is the reason why she fell in love with him.
She closes her eyes and pretends to be asleep as Jack comes over to her and gives her his daily kiss on the forehead. He does it every morning before he goes. Nami expects it. But she'd never admit that to his face. Or admit the way his presence and attention lights a fire inside of her.
No. She'd never admit any of it. That is what Jack is good for. He always seems to just know what she can't say or easily express.
She opens her eyes again to watch him head out the front door.
"I love you"
She says after he's long gone.
