Part 11: Revelation
"How is that possible?" Kaldor stated. "Atlantean woman do not associate with humans. They don't even go to the surface."
"Apparently, that Atlantean woman did, and let's just say we rescued each other."
"You'll have to tell me that story," Kaldor said. "It may have a bearing on how she ended up on the surface."
"I'm afraid I only know what she told me," Red Robin stated. "Her parents were killed by a man named Devlin. If she's Atlantean, then she must have been abandoned on the surface as a baby then adopted."
"I can help her discover who her birth parents are, but she will need to come with me to Atlantis."
"Out of the question right now, but I'll talk with her. In the meantime, do you have more of that liquid you gave her to cure the Ick?"
Kaldor pulled out a vial from a pouch at his side. "I can get more. I usually keep a few on me."
"Thanks, I'll make sure Sammie keeps this in a place where she can get at it."
"Sammie?"
"Her name is Samantha Clark. I call her Sammie." Red Robin heard s sharp little whistle. "All right Garfield, you can come out, now."
"How did you know it was me?" Beast Boy said as he turned back into his human form.
"That intake of breath you took," Red Robin pointed out. "I can recognize a robin's chirp when I hear it. You were spying on me."
"Well, you did act kind of mysterious."
"What's the truth, Garfield." Red Robin crossed his arms. "You whistled when I mentioned Samantha."
"Well . . . Um . . . We were . . . Um . . . Worried."
"We?" Red Robin coaxed.
"Kon and I."
"Go on."
"Well, we thought . . . That you were . . . "
Red Robin smirked. "You thought I was carrying on with a married woman."
"How did you know?"
"The look on your face is enough," Red Robin replied. "Sammie is going to be a married woman."
"What? You're carrying on with someone else's fiancé?"
"Not someone else's. If you heard, she's mine," Red Robin replied as he crossed his arms in front of his chest.
"You're engaged? I can't wait to tell the others!"
Red Robin grabbed the collar of Garfield's Titan uniform shirt. "Garfield, stop! You do nothing of the sort. You know the rules!"
Beast Boy shrank down and turned into a mouse, and scurried away from Red Robin. "You'll have to catch me first!"
"Dammit, Garfield!" Red Robin raced after Beast Boy, but once outside the room, Beast Boy changed again into a bird and took off. Kaldor followed after Red Robin.
"You don't think he'll reveal your secret to anyone?"
"Only to the whole Titan Family." Red Robin replied.
"Is that so bad?"
"We have one rule, never reveal about outside family to anyone, even to the team. It's to protect them. An enemy gets wind that a particular Titan has someone they care about outside the group, that enemy could target that person."
"Maybe if you threaten him with death, he may not reveal what he knows."
"We don't kill, Kaldor, even a team member, but I can ensure he doesn't step outside the tower for a month or two."
Beast Boy was singing out at the top of his lungs. "Red's engaged! Red's engaged!" He came to a sudden halt when he ran into Superboy's chest.
"What are you babbling about?"
Bunker was working on an electrical panel that shorted out. "Who is engaged, mi amigo?"
"Red Robin!" Beast Boy blurted out.
Both Superboy and Bunker shouted out at the same time. "WHAT!?"
"Yeah, the girl we thought he was dating isn't married. She's his fiancé."
A sour look came over Bunker's face. Superboy tried to cover up his disappointment as well. "Did you hear what her name is?"
"Who cares," Bunker groused.
"Aw come one, I'm just excited that our birdie has a girlfriend he's going to marry."
"Typical," Superboy groused.
"Hand me the soldering iron, Superboy, mi amigo."
"Sure," Superboy handed Bunker the tool. His eyes went wide when Bunker suddenly launched it at Beast Boy.
"Hey!" Beast Boy cried out as the tool passed his head. "Don't kill the messenger!"
"Gotcha!" Red Robin grabbed the fluttering green bird.
"EEP! Oh, hi Red."
"You ever tell my secret again . . . "
"So, when's the wedding? Are you going to invite us?"
"You're hopeless," Red Robin stated, and tossed Beast Boy over his shoulder. "I'm going home."
"Can we meet . . . "
Red Robin turned quickly and glared.
"Um, guess not."
Red Robin resumed walking and headed to the zeta tube. He really couldn't blame Beast Boy for eavesdropping. They knew his secret identity and they may have even heard rumors about the person he was dating, though he had tried to keep it under wraps. He wasn't ready to reveal that he was in love, that he had a girlfriend, and that he had a family on the way. He had lived such a clean and uncomplicated life. Uncomplicated, well about as uncomplicated as it gets when you have three brothers, and you're also one of Batman's partners. Red Robin blew out an exasperated sigh as he punched in the coordinates to the bat-cave and disappeared.
