Part 16: The Wedding
That evening Elizabeth Goodfellow got a copy of the evening edition of the Gotham Gazette and searched through the society page. There was no mention where the wedding was taking place, only the fact that Timothy Drake-Wayne was marrying Samantha Clark in a private ceremony. It was the same notice that had been in the morning paper. Then it dawned on her. The paper said the ceremony was private, which means they must be having the wedding at the Manor. They did have that large ballroom.
Elizabeth took the newspaper back to Poison Ivy. "There's nothing in the papers about the location."
"I'm not surprised if that little whore has something on him, it's possible your little Timmy has been a naughty boy."
"I'll kill her!"
"You're going to need a little help with that," Ivy stated. She handed Elizabeth a tube. "My special brand of lipstick. One kiss and he's yours for life."
Elizabeth took the tube. "What about the girl?"
"Leave her to me," Ivy said. "She won't escape my poison darts."
That night, in the privacy of the Wayne Chapel, a small ceremony was taking place.
"Are you sure you want to do this now?"
"Sure," Tim stated. "If we do it now, I won't be so nervous tomorrow. And this is just between my brothers and I."
"If you really want to," Samantha stated.
"Wedding days don't always go as planned," Dick stated. "If you get married now, it will just be a formality tomorrow. I talked with a priest early this morning. He said technically you don't need a priest, just two witnesses in the presents of the holy. This is the family chapel.
"And we're your witnesses."
"Tomorrow it will be official when you and Samantha sign the marriage certificate."
"And we can verify that we were present," Sasha said.
"And the video I'm making will prove you're married, Timothy," Damian added.
"All right, let's do this."
So, that's what they did, got married in secret with family around them. They decided to sign the marriage certificate the next day with the priest and the same people as witnesses. The ceremony would still go as planned for the rest of the Wayne family friends and a few outsiders who had been invited.
The next day was a bustle of activity. Flowers were arriving, a large cake was transported and put in place. Tables were set up with table clothes, bone china with the finest silverware, and crystal glasses to hold wine and any other beverage of a person's choice. All that was needed were the guests. Two figures snuck in with the extra help that had been hired for the occasion. Both wandered the back halls avoiding the steely eyes of the butler who saw everything. Once they knew where they were going, the pair ducked into an empty room and stripped off their clothing to reveal their true identities.
"Murdering scum," Ivy muttered when she saw the flowers. She wasn't aware that Bruce Wayne had switched from using cut flowers to potted live ones to show his support in doing what was right for the environment. Samantha's bouquet, her bride's maids, the groom, and his attendants were all sporting artificial flowers, though they looked as good as the real thing.
Ivy and Elizabeth spotted a young man in a tux coming out of what looked like a powder room. His eyes went wide when he spotted what he thought were two late arrivals to the ceremony. He was going to offer to escort them when he recognized the first of the two ladies, and realized who the second one was.
"Poison Ivy," the boy whispered and rushed to the chapel to alert the others. "Guys!"
"Shh! Don't interrupt the ceremony," Someone said.
"If there is anyone who has cause to object speak now or forever hold your peace . . . "
"I object!"
Everyone turned with astonished eyes.
"He is supposed to marry me!" Elizabeth stated.
"You're too late young lady," the minister stated. "They already exchanged their vows!"
"Elizabeth?" Tim questioned.
"Out of our way!" Poison ivy demanded as several eyes realized what was going on. Poison Ivy caused the plants that were sitting on the alter to grow and intertwine their leafy stems around Tim.
"Timmy!" Samantha cried out. "Ow!" Three spiny thorns imbedded into her back and she collapsed.
"Sammie!" Tim exclaimed.
"Mother!" Damian cried as he caught her in his arms. "What did you do to her?"
"You want to see your son alive again, consider paying me $50 million for the deaths you caused. Then we'll be even!"
"Deaths, what deaths?" Bruce said, bewildered.
"The death of my children," Ivy pointed to the flowery decorations that lined the pews of the chapel.
"They aren't dead," Bruce pointed out. "They're. . . "
Ivy didn't listen. "Fifty million, Mr. Wayne, or you will never see Timothy Wayne and his new wife ever, again."
"Samantha is his wife," Dick argued.
"I'm not talking about her," Ivy said. "Let's go."
Ivy rushed out with Elizabeth on her heals. They carried Tim between them, leaving everyone questioning, what next?
