A eleven year old girl stayed rooted in her spot as she began to feel numb. Tears were glistening in her eyes as the news was registered into her brain. The fellow eleven year old standing next to her, could only hold her hand tightly.

The man dressed in white had his arms by his side as he explained the situation to the two families standing before him. The girl looked up and saw how her mother's face looked so pained. Her father could only hold her as she held back her tears.

Her father looked at the doctor with hopeful eyes, "But... there is still hope, right?"

The girl found it difficult to pay attention to her surroundings.

It's all your fault. It's all your fault. It's all your fault. It's all your fault. It's all your fault. It's all your fault. It's all your fault. It's all your fault. It's all your fault. It's all your fault. It's all your fault. It's all your fault. It's all your fault. It's all your fault. It's all your fault. It's all your fault.

"... We just don't know when they'll wake up. It'll be up to them."

"My sister won't wake up yet?" The boy holding her hand asked, she flinched as he asked that question.

"No, we don't know yet, Ren." The boy's mother answered, she too was struggling to keep her tears at bay.

At that moment, the sound of running footsteps were approaching them. The girl year old didn't need to turn around to see who it was, she already knew it was her uncle arriving. Her mother immediately greeted her uncle in a broken voice, which made her feel even worse.

"What's going on with my nephew?!"

"Oh... Eijin...! The doctor said that-"

"-Mizuha!"

A girl with long light silver hair lightly jumped in her seat at the loud calling of her name. It brought her back to reality. She was sitting outside on a wooden bench in front of a convenience store. Slowly, she looked up and laid her onyx orbs on the person standing before her.

Mizuha slowly registered his features as the gears began turning in her mind once more. A boy with snowy white hair and light purple eyes. He was waving paper money between the two while staring at her curiously. He stood in front of the sun that had been warming her under its light, and created a small shadow on her.

"Byakuren..." She spoke out softly.

"Here, your change." He said while waving the money a little faster. She reached out her hand and took the money from him while also taking the small pack of gummy bears that he held out for her. She gave him a quiet word of thanks as she shoved the money into her school bag. Then she held her bag out for him to hold, which he took without saying anything.

Byakuren held both their bags and watched her concentrate on opening the small pack as they walked home together. He waited patiently as she struggled with it and finally decided to break the silence as she popped in a green bear into her mouth, a small satisfied hum sounded from her.

"So?" He asked as he looked ahead.

Mizuha's eyes looked at him from the corner of her eye sockets with a brow raised. She was asking him for a better question instead of a vague one.

"I mean, are you going to apply for that high school?" He inquired with a small smile. Mizuha let out a small hum again with a nod before turning her eyes back in front of her.

"I don't think I need to ask if you did." Mizuha said with a flat tone before popping an orange bear into her mouth. Byakuren nodded with a hum of his own. Not a word was spoken between them as they kept walking side by side. The sky was already orange, indicating that students should be on their way home soon. Complete silence fell between them except for the occasional movements of the plastic pack once Mizuha would grab another treat to satisfy her craving.

"U.A High School..." Mizuha whispered to no one in particular, testing the name on her tongue.

"New environment, new people. A new opportunity to make new friends! Sounds great don't you think?" Byakuren teased with a grin, knowing full well what his friend's answer would be.

Mizuha's black eyes narrowed at him. He was talking that nonsense again. "Yeah, right." she heaved a sigh. "Connections like that will only get you in trouble one day perhaps even killed." she said with a scoff before popping a final treat in her mouth and tucking away the small candy pack. She looked at him and held out her hand.

Byakuren did a close eyed smile and he handed her the school bag.

U.A High School, the number one institution in Japan where students can learn and train to be a full-fledge Hero.

The entrance exams will be taking place in several months.

With the skills I have, I'm pretty confident in my admission.

I am absolutely certain that we'll be able to get into that school.

Hey! This was the Prologue for Aloof Hero, which I plan to be the first of 'Book' of the story. 'Book I' will focus on Mizuha's background and character development.

I hoped you liked this Prologue and please give this story a chance! Please, let me know what you thought!
