Bella's Lament
The hollow beating of my heart
Reminds me, all too often
Of the distance between us.
A steady rhythm
That pushes you away from me
With each pulse of life
You yearn to take
What I have freely offered
Like the tide sweeping against the shore
But drawing back when it gets too close
In fear that the earth will be worn away.
But if the earth could beg
Would it not wish for each grain
Each part of itself
To be swept up into that torrent
That boundless love
To be one with every part
Of every sea
Joining together in perfect harmony
Each wave
Each breath
Each eternity.
The heartbeat of the sea
Silent, but overflowing
In what we are
What we can be.
When you kiss me
When my heart stops
We are together
And the distance closes
While the ocean draws nearer.
