Not much to say but Thanks to my Beta, Hitomi1995, and my readers and reviewers! You guys are great!
I don't own the Inuyasha charaters! sob sob
Indeed it was but a short time later that Kikyo and Inuyasha arrived to join the group. He was carrying her bridal style in his arms. As they reached the others he slowly let her down and let her go, but not before giving her a kiss.
The others tried to ignore them as much as possible, which in truth wasn't that difficult as they were so absorbed in each other.
And still Kagome walked at the head of their tiny procession. She was quiet, but determination shone out of the very way that she walked.
When they finally reached the outskirts of what looked like an old abandoned village. There were no lights, no sound and no people. Cooking utensils and cloths were strewn all over the ground. Dark blackish stains covered everything, from the objects laying around to the walls and ceilings of the huts.
Kikyo created a whitish light to float above them and illuminate the area. This caused shadows to create around everything and made it even harder to see.
"In the centre of the town" was all Kagome said as she left in that direction. She hadn't gone more than a few steps before a man stepped out of the shadows. As he stepped into the light he let the baboon pelt glide off his head baring his blood red eyes and smooth curly black hair to the unnatural dark around the town. As they looked up, they a saw a big dome of black miasma forming a barrier around them, keeping them trapped inside.
From behind him someone chucked a body at the ground in front of his feet. With his toe he pushed it so it's face was towards them.
The black hair was covered in dirt and blood and the blood red lips were cut and bleeding. A large blue bruise was clearly seen on the right cheek. Her once beautiful skin disfigured by cruel punishment. Poor Kagura.
"Did you really think you could surprise me?" The sneer on his face directed at Inuyasha and Kikyo. The others seemed to be beneath his notice. He knew the Monk was limited in his ability to fight because of the poisonous bees all over the place. The slayer was easily held in check by pitting her against her own brother. The fox might have grown somewhat but his fox magic wasn't strong enough to defeat any but the weakest and lowest of demons. And the Miko, well she had never proven to be a hassle. She couldn't control her powers and was easily drawn away and into danger. Plus now that the undead Miko had joined the group, Inuyasha's first response would be to aid her, leaving the Miko unprotected. Today's fight would be as easy as stealing baby from a candy, a past time he found he enjoyed quiet considerably.
"You arrogant bastard! Today is your last day!"
With that Inuyasha charged at Naraku, but was predictably blocked by a barrier. With a mocking little laugh and a flick of his wrist hundreds of demons appeared behind him.
"So you thought it would be that easy?"
The demons came at them in droves.
Sango and Miroku standing back-to-back demons around them, coming at them from all sides, were wearying out pretty quickly. Kirara and Shippo were in the air, dodging and attacking for all they were worth. But they too were vastly outnumbered and were tiring quickly.
Inuyasha was still trying to get at Naraku through a ton of demons that were coming between him and his intended target. Kikyo had her hands full trying to keep the demons from attacking his back and not purifying HIM by accident. So it was no surprise that Kagome was left unguarded. As Naraku made his way to where she was standing. He held out his hand.
"You can make all of this end. All you have to do is give me your splitters."
The sick oily smile he was giving her was making her nauseous.
Inuyasha's voice could suddenly be heard.
"Has he got the jewel on him?"
But both she and Naraku ignored him.
"Oh come on. What are you hesitating about? You can't still want to give it to Inuyasha. Look! He is protecting his Miko and it isn't you my dear!" His finger unerringly pointed in the direction in which Inuyasha had just had to double back to free Kikyo from the hoard that had managed to surround her as she covered his back. He lifted her to a spot a little away and then cleared the rest with one sweep of his sword.
But again Kagome kept her eyes on Naraku.
Suddenly an immense aura filled the clearing. The aura was so strong it tingled their skins and purified all of the lesser demons. The demon hoard was nearly halved already.
All fights stopped and all eyes turned to where the source of the power was coming from.
The aura around was so strong it was visible as a pink light around Kagome. Naraku, who was closest, had taken a step or too back to get a way from the power sizzling him. He had hastily erected a barrier between them to protect himself. His face had filled with shock. How in the blazes had he missed this? As his eyes adjusted to the increased light, he saw that Kagome's hair was whipping around her. Fury was clearly etched on her features as her eyes were filled with specks of pink. She flicked a hand out in his direction and a wave of power hit him. It didn't purify him but sent him sprawling back nearly 2 meters.
"I'm tired of people thinking I am second best, that I'm weak. Did you really think I would trust you and any offer you made?"
Again her hand flicked out as she pushed him further from her.
Looking around at the shocked faces of her friends, she felt a small amount of satisfaction. They too had doubted she could take care of herself. They too had rated her second behind Kikyo. Inuyasha himself had told her she was nothing but a cheap copy of Kikyo, one that could never be as powerful as she. As she slid her gaze to Kikyo, she saw understanding come over her. There was only one person who could have helped Kagome grow to this extent. Sesshomaru!
As Kagome turned back to Naraku the battle resumed as humans and demons alike came out of their trance like state. Naraku sent a wave of miasma at her but holding her hand palm out, she stopped it dead in it's tracks. She curved her shield inwards and around the miasma and purified it.
Meanwhile Inuyasha had started back on his attack. He had finally cleared the path to Naraku's barrier and was striking it again and again, trying to get in and at the monster that had destroyed his chance of happiness so many years ago. But just as the barrier started to crack, a small wail came from behind him.
Two demons had gotten behind Kikyo. One had an arm wrapped around her neck and the other had a sword through her back. Her soul catchers were beings of energy and not capable of fighting back. The wail had come from them in an effort to draw attention to what was happening. As Inuyasha saw this he raced back, but it was too late. The man holding her neck had literally jerked it off. He was in time to catch her body, as the two demons jumped back. As they started towards him Shippo's fox fire burned them to cinders. He didn't even stop to say anything before jumping back into the fight. As Kikyo's body turned to dust, the countless souls it had held were set free.
As Kagome was throwing attack after attack, trying to increase the crack Inuyasha had created, she felt a huge rise in her power. At the same time a feeling of being whole once more befell her. She therefore turned her head to find Kikyo and instead her eyes clashed with Inuyasha's. His face distorted in pain and the marks on his face started to appear. His eyes bled to red and the next moment his huge sword was singing in the air, cracking down at the barrier. It shook and broke under the attack and burst apart, sending Inuyasha flying. Naraku had seen the attack coming and had prepared a miasma attack to counter, sending it in all directions. It choked his own minions on its way to her friends. Faster than the blink of an eye Kagome was standing in it's path. Lifting a hand she put a shield between it and her friends. With another flick of her hand she had pulled a large tree from the ground and was hurtling it towards Naraku. Again faster than the eye could travel she was directly behind him.
"Game over Naraku!"
With that she released a wave of purifying energy directly into his body. For a moment it seemed as if time was frozen. She moved again as the tree finally reached Naraku, sending him flying into the centre of the practically flattened village. With that Naraku imploded. The air around him became a vortex as the miasma from the dome barrier was sucked back to his body. When it finally ended there were no enemy demons around only the small, now dull, pink jewel.
Kagome walked to it and picked it up. Bringing her hands together she simply pressed her splitters to the jewel and watched as it glowed for a minute, absorbing the splitters and making itself whole. Then, it turned dull again.
