Stumbling out of the well house, Kagome made her way to the backdoor of her house. She was walking there as if on instinct only, as the tears were nearly blinding her. Reaching the door, she fell heavily against it and nearly tumbled onto the kitchen floor.

Her mother, who was standing at the stove, turned towards the commotion. At the sight of her daughter's tear stained face she was at her side in an instant, pulling Kagome to her. And then the sobs came. They were such heart breaking sobs, sobs that wracked her whole body. Mrs. Higurashi tried to calm her daughter, stroking her hair, whispering words of "it will be ok" and "Shhh".

But none of it seemed to help. Still Kagome cried. Eventually she fell asleep, the tears still spilling although she was not even conscious any more.

This was how Souta and Grandpa found them a short while later. Just as Souta opened his mouth to ask what was going on, Mrs. Higurashi put a finger to her lips. Looking down at her poor daughter's face, she wiped away the tears still running down her cheeks. Souta came forward and bent down to pick up his older sister. He had grown considerably since she had first started going back in time. Not just in height but in shoulder length as well. His mom told him he was becoming as strong as his dad used to be.

With one arm around her shoulders and another under her knees, he carried her to her bed. His mother followed behind and opened the door to Kagome's bedroom and pulled back the covers on her bed. Souta laid her down and stepped back as Mrs. Higurashi moved forward to pull her shoes and jackets off. There were some blood stains on her clothes, but none of it seemed to have been hers. As soon as Kagome was made as comfortable as possible, they left the room and returned to the kitchen where Grandpa had been waiting.

As Mrs. Higurashi moved around the kitchen preparing some tea for them all, Souta finally voiced the thoughts running through everyone's mind.

"Something bad must have happened...I haven't ever seen Sis in this state before."

Kagome's mom placed the cups of steaming tea in front of each as she took a seat at the kitchen table with them.

"It probably has something to do with Inuyasha. There was blood on her clothes."

Grandpa just nodded.

"I think maybe ...Maybe he's dead?"

Neither of them looked up, each deeply entrenched in their own thoughts.

After a while, Mrs. Higurashi finally looked up. As if on signal Souta and Grandpa looked at her.

"We'll just have to give her some time. Eventually she'll talk to us and then she can move on."

Unfortunately for the Higurashi family, that was not to be the case. The next day Kagome didn't come out of her room. None of them wanted to disturb her too much and so they left it at that. When an answer didn't come from inside the room, two days later, Souta was forced to break the door open. But inside there was no sign of Kagome. They did a thorough search of the house and when they couldn't find her there, they moved onto the grounds of the Shrine. Eventually they found her.

She was lying curled up at the bottom of the well. There was no sign of life in her. Even when Souta jumped down to her, she didn't even blink or move. He put his hand on her head and realized she was burning with a fever. As quick as they could, she was brought back into the house and put to bed. But several hours later, her situation still had not changed and so Mrs. Higurashi called a doctor that didn't live to far from them.

They were too afraid of moving her now, so the doctor was on his way to them.

While Kagome's mom sat at her bedside and continually laid cool clothes on Kagome's forehead to try and bring down her temperature, Souta waited at the door for the doctor.

When he finally arrived, Souta was rather surprised. The doctor was a young man, with black her and even blacker eyes. He had a friendly smile on his face and yet the air around him sent a shiver down Souta's back. Ignoring his initial worries, he hurried the man upstairs and to his sister that needed help. Halfway up the stairs, the doctor stopped.

"Why are you stopping? My sister is upstairs and she needs your help right now!" He hadn't meant to scream at the doctor, but the whole situation had gotten to him. As the doctor turned to him, he tried to crank down on his wild emotions.

"Your sister wouldn't by any chance be a Miko would she?" the doctor quietly asked.

Confused Souta could only nod.

"Ahm... I cannot continue. She has flared her aura and unfortunately I cannot get past it to help her."

Like lightning, it struck Souta that the doctor would only have a problem with Miko energy if he was a demon. Souta was astounded to find a demon in his own time, especially after hearing his sister's stories.

"You're a demon!" It just suddenly blurted out of his mouth. Was it such a good idea for a demon doctor to be treating a Miko patient? He didn't know, but they might not have time to find and get another doctor here now.

"How can I help you help her?"

The doctor ruffled in his bag and brought out a small pill bottle.

"What is her situation?"

"She's very weak, has fever and probably hasn't eaten in a couple of days. She barely moves and her breathing is very shallow."

The doctor nodded and then opened the bottle and tipped out a single tablet.

"She needs to take one of these. It will work nearly immediately to block her aura, but only for a little while. But you have to give it to her now!"

With that he dropped the pill into Sputa's already open hand and watched as the boy moved up the stairs. A short while later, he could feel the contracting of the powerful aura and followed in its wake. As he finally reached the door and pushed it open, he was confronted with a vision.

An angel was lying on the bed. Her black hair was spread out around her. Some of it was sticking to her sweaty face, curling across her forehead. He felt the almost immediate urge to wipe the strands out of her face. Her face was flushed with fever and yet it detracted nothing of her beauty. The thought of the level of power held in that small and delicate body was enough to wring a reaction from his body. As he stepped closer, she tossed her head to the other side. Some of her hair fell away from her now exposed neck and what he saw there stilled his movement forward.

A mating mark, not just any one, but an exceptionally strong one. It was partly the reason for her fever. She must have been away from her mate for too long, a common problem under human mates these days. What made her case so unusual was the strength of the fever. It was much more devastating on her body than it should be. But as he looked at the faces of her family he voiced the nagging question

"Where is her mate?"

"Mate? You mean Inuyasha? We think he might be dead. She came home in a sorry state a couple of days ago."

This was very unusual then. If the demon mate had died, his human mate followed shortly after. For her to still be alive, meant that her Miko powers were stronger than his demon ones.

And he knew right then and there, that he had to have her. He would medicate the fever and erase her memory of her previous mate, allowing himself an IN to her psyche and a way to make her his.
