Hi again! Contrary to some beliefs this is indeed a Sess/Kag story. I jst need to add some info for a plots sake!

Thanks though for reviewing and special thanks to my Beta, Hitomi1995!

I do not own any of these of so adorable Inuyasha character, but I do like to make use of them. ;)

Kagome was pretty nervous

Kagome was pretty nervous. Sure she and Doc Kai had been on dates before. I mean they had officially been seeing each other for about a month though. Today was kind of different though. A week ago, she had been telling him all about this grand ball taking place at the fancy new hotel in town. Her friend Eri was part of the catering staff – it was one of her part time jobs- and had been telling her all about the amount of food that had to be prepared and the amount of people invited. It was apparently a very exclusive party. She had laughed at Kai as he asked her if she wanted to go. She had brushed it off as a joke and had forgotten about it. That was until a beautiful dress had arrived two days later.

The box that it arrived in was large and heavy and when she put it down in the living room, she was feeling all excited. I mean who isn't excited at receiving a large package with their name on it.

With trembling fingers she opened the boy and was greeted with a card lying on top of some thin paper. As she picked up the card an invitation fell out. Picking that up as well, she realized it was an invitation to the ball she had been talking about. With a gasp she let the invitation fall back to the floor. After a good few seconds to absorb the information, she turned to the card with large eyes.

"Surprise! I was invited to this event but wasn't planning on going. Find it very boring usually, but the sparkle in your eye convinced me it could be a little different if you joined me this year. But to go to a ball one has to be dressed as a princess. That's why you need to put down the card and pull back the paper. Once you're done, call me!! Kai"

While reading the note again she was hit by lightning. For him to be getting invites to an event like this on a regular basis must mean he was someone of importance or came from a very well to do family. But knowing Youkai, it wasn't family. Most of them lived long enough to accumulate a rather large sum of money if they were smart enough about it.

Placing the card down next to the box, she took out the paper covering and mass met by the most beautiful color that she had ever seen. The material looked silky and soft and she couldn't stop her hand from reaching down and touching it. Slipping it under the dress she stood up and let it open completely. The amazing sapphire blue she had first seen was only at the top of the dress. The color subtly changed while running down the dress, till it was a midnight blue at the hem.

It had only one strap across the left shoulder, leaving the other shoulder bare. It was a rather plain dress otherwise, but made all the more elegant because it was not covered by useless excess. This dress was made to let the wearer look good and not to outdo her. At the bottom of the box was a pair of black high-heeled open sandals and a small pouch with a string that would let it dangle from her wrist. It was the same color melting as the dress. As she picked it up though it was a little too heavy to be empty. Placing the dress carefully back into the box she turned her attention to the pouch. She had a sneaking suspension she knew what she would find, but was still surprised to see the glittering white jewels lying at the bottom. Reaching a hand in she lifted out a pair of delicate silver and diamond earrings. They were not gaudy but elegant in their simplicity. Once again they were meant to enhance not outshine the wearer. The small drop like earrings had a matching necklace that was on a fine silver chain.

With infinite care she put them back in and pounced on the phone.

She had been so bubbly in her thanks and her appreciation that he had laughed lightly and told her that she was worth more than ten times all those things. This had nearly made her cry. No man had ever said that to her.

But now she stood in front of the mirror as her mom helped pull the dress right. It sat beautifully on her if she could say so herself. She was quiet surprised that were before she only used to see a girl in her mirror, there was now a stunning woman. Her mother had placed her hair up in an elegant and simple French twist and allowed certain curls to lie loose. Her fringe had been pulled across her forehead from one side to the other in and then pinned into place.

With some light make up and the jewels she wasn't overly dressed and even felt rather comfortably in the clothes.

Her nervousness stemmed from not knowing what Kai would think of her.

As the doorbell rang she was given no more time to think about it.

"You look beautiful tonight Kagome! I'm sure Kai will be pleased."

With that her mother gave her a little push towards the door and down the stairs. In the hall she met her brother who had come up to tell her the Doc was here. But at seeing her he stopped dead in his tracks and his jaw feel open. The stunned look on his face eased Kagome's nerves, as she had to laugh at his expression doing the gold fish! Sweeping on by him she headed downstairs. At the bottom of the stairs she looked up and straight into the black eyes of the Doc. He had been watching her as she came down and was held stunned by how beautiful she looked. Hell he new she would look good in the stuff he had bought for her, but he hadn't realized how well. As she cleared her throat, he snapped back to reality and held out his arm leading her to the car waiting for them outside.

Upon arriving at the hotel, they were greeted by a valet that helped Kagome out of the car. As he came around to her he noticed all the men and even some of the women had turned to stare. Kai felt pride as he noted their looks of lust and envy. They got the same reaction as they entered the main dancing hall, where the guests had all congregated. Kagome though missed all the attention she was getting as she was admiring the room they had entered. She also didn't realize that the slight ache she had been feeling since this morning was slowly fading away. As they made their way down the stairs she was looking at everything. Kai's arm was the thing that was keeping her moving. A surge in power drew her attention to its source. Finding it she was met with the most incredible amber eyes and with a whoosh her breath left her body. Immediately Kai had a hand on her back and as she was trying to catch her breath and tear her eyes away from the stranger. She heard Kai mumble a few words in a language she couldn't understand. As the last word left his mouth, the power the stranger's eyes had on her was gone. And she continued down the stairs. She therefore missed the tightening of the expression and the red rings forming in the stranger's eyes.
