Semper Fidelis

Part II

They drove to the airport after closing time,

The lunar afterglow highlights their hair,

The turbulence made him terrified

But she still smiled there.

Next came Nevada's target point,

Like a hit on "Land and Sea".

The ground lit up with

Casino constellations

And neon bibles, row by row.

He gave her the seaside wedding she wanted

(almost)

with blue suede carpet and a

superstore synthesizer.

The minister dressed up as a sea captain.

Theresa giggled and loved the joke.

Then came the cap'n's cue card vows,

Then the "I do's", then came now.

They kissed and Gus said, "I love you, Corn Chip".

Theresa whispered through the rental veil,

"Semper fidelis."

Then came the honeymoon suite

It wasn't very neat

He apologized but she said,

"Say no more and dance with me."

No reception

But a turn of the knob

Turned on the radio

And they slow danced all night long.

The little private

And the corn chip girl,

Green suit and blue dress

Were no longer in distress.
