Tails awoke before he hit the bottom of the opening. The sun was barely rising into the sky. It's light shining through the trees and causing the flowers to light up. He admired them for a brief moment and then ran to his plane and jumped in. As he started the engines, he gazed up at the skies and prayed that today he would find her. With a heavy heart, he lifted the X-Tornado into the sky and began his search once more.
~With Sonic and Amy~
The train ride to Mystic Ruins had been quiet. Neither Sonic nor Amy spoke, for each was lost in their own train of thought. Amy stared out the window beside her and worried for her good friend Tails and Cosmo. Sonic was also worried for them, but he also feared at the risk he had taken because he had brought Amy with him.
"I never should've agreed to this. What if she gets hurt or hurts herself in an attempt to save me?"
His eyebrows creased together and his expression became both worried and serious. Amy glanced over at him and longed to know what was on his mind to make his expression so readable. Gently, she placed her hand on his shoulder causing him to wince.
"Sonic, we're nearly there... are you alright?"
He looked down at his own hands as he said, " I'm fine."
"You aren't a very good liar Sonic."
He shrugged as he said, "Well, then Eggman was sure gullible."
Amy let out a laugh and caused Sonic to smile.
"Next stop Mystic Ruins." called a voice from over the train intercom. The wheels screeched as the train pulled to a slow stop. Amy moved her hand down onto Sonic's hand and gave it a gentle squeeze.
" You ready?"
"Yeah... Let's go."
Sonic swept Amy off her feet and ran as fast as he could to Tails' workshop. Amy clutched onto him tightly as the wind and everything else flew right past her. The wind sent her hair flying wildly and she could feel the adrenaline rush through her veins.
"Such a wonderful feeling! I now see why Sonic loves running so much!" she thought happily. Sonic could hear Amy's bright laughter and smiled to himself as he picked up more speed. Too soon, they arrived at Tails' workshop. Sonic set Amy down on her feet when they were in front of his home. "Wait here Ames."Speedy quick, he ran throughout the house in search for his pal with no success. His room was still empty, his bed covers made as if he had never even touched them. The rest of the rooms were the same, they all showed no signs of a kitsune or anybody entering them. Still neat and tidy, like the day Sonic had came and found Tails and Cosmo together...
He let out a sigh and made his way back to Amy.
"Let's check his workshop. Maybe he took a plane?" she suggested.
"I hope you're wrong, that means he could've gone anywhere."
They ran to his workshop but stumbled upon the password security system.
"What could it be?" Amy asked.
"Close your eyes, I know what it is." Sonic said sternly. Not wanting to ask any questions, Amy closed her eyes. Slowly, Sonic typed in the password and stood back to allow the doors to open. As they did, Amy opened her eyes and gasped at how large and advanced his shop looked. Several planes were around all except for the one she knew. She turned to Sonic as she said, " Er, Sonic...where's the-?"
"Dammit! He took the X-Tornado!" Sonic snarled. He tightened his hands into fists and felt anger building up inside him. Amy put her hands on his shoulders and spoke softly, " Don't worry. We'll find him. C'mon..."
She tugged him away from the scene and out of the shop. Sonic halted and made her stop as well."Maybe, I should just go look for him...by myself."
"What?"
"Just hear me out for a sec, okay Amy? It's too dangerous for you to-"
"No! I'm going with you whether you like it or not!"
Sonic sighed, "I knew you were going to say that. Just please Amy... stay here, for me."
"Why?" she demanded. Sonic drew in a sharp breath and said in a shaky voice, " Because you could get hurt..."
"Oh, please Sonic the Hedgehog. I've been on plenty of journeys with you when it was dangerous. Why is now any different?"
"It just is... Don't try and pick a fight okay?"
" Then don't argue."
"Amy I-" Sonic began but stopped when Amy put a finger to his lips to silence him.
" Trust me. I'll be fine. Now, are you gonna keep arguing with me and wasting time or are we going to go find Tails and Cosmo?" she demanded.
"I guess you're right... I don't have a choice." he sighed. Amy smiled and walked over to him and gave him a hug.
" Thank you, now let's get going."
With a smile on his face, he scooped up Amy in his arms and ran into the forest of Mystic Ruins.
~With Cosmo~
" If I don't open my eyes... I won't have to see where I am. I can forget, I can pretend to be with Tails. Together at his workshop, watching the sunset together...being together.."she sighed as her pain seemed to melt away as she thought of those good days. How she longed to be free of her prison cell. She squeezed her eyes shut and forced herself not to think about it. Unfortunately, that only worked for a few moments because she could hear the machine charging up again."No!" she gasped as her eyes flew open.
~Cosmo's P.O.V~
The machine began to power up again, which meant he wants to perform more experiments on me. As my eyes adjusted to the pale light of the capsule, I could feel the heavy weight of the metal band across my head. It was, as Tom called it, a crown. Made of black metal, the supposed crown was placed on my head. Connected to it, were a dozen wires that were colored blue, red, and yellow. I was only too aware of what was going to happen next. I pressed my hands against the capsule glass with all my remaining strength and once more attempted to open it. Through the glass, I saw the dark figure laugh at me. Gritting my teeth together, I pushed with all my might with little success. The shadow came closer to the capsule and revealed his crimson red eyes.
" Try your best to break free but I guarantee you, there's no escaping."
Ignoring him, I tried to pry the metal band free from my head. A sudden surge of electricity ran throughout me, piercing at everything in my body. I let out a cry as I removed my hands from the metal band and prayed the pain would cease. My body trembled and felt as if I had no control over it what so ever. I bit my lip to keep in my screams and balled my hands into fists.
"I won't give him the satisfaction of my pain!" she angrily thought. The shocking stopped, allowing Cosmo to regain control of herself and breathe.
"You see? We don't have to do things the hard way, my dear." Tom spoke softly.
"If you would only do as I say and not fuss, then we can continue the experimentation without any troubles."
"Why should I help you with anything, you monster!" I yelled. He let out a fierce snarl that sent fear running down my spine. But I held my stand and kept my voice as steady as I could.
" I will not help you! You expect me to just do your will peacefully? After all the horrid things you've done to me and Tails?!"
He ignored me and strides towards the machine's starting switch."I try to be nice and this is what I get in return? Your stubbornness?" he snapped. Tom glared at me, his hand on the power switch. Glaring back, I showed no signs of weakness and then bowed my head, bracing myself for the impact of pain.
~Tails P.O.V~
The sky was a pale blue as I flew through it. I scanned the forest in search for the building where Cosmo was. The trees seemed to be endless, a vast green blob.
"Why couldn't Tom be stupid like the other kidnappers? They leave trails and are not as complicated to locate!" I growled. The building she had shown me look somewhat like a pyramid... only it looked so old...Suddenly, I felt my eyes widen as I realized something.
"Of course! To hide something in plain sight! Your enemies would suspect you to hide your base somewhere complicated...rarely ever in plain sight!"
I slapped myself in the forehead at realizing my own stupidity. My head throbbed a little, but I didn't care.
"His base must be hidden just below the old Mystic Ruins Pyramids!"Courage began to boil up inside me as I made my plane do a quick 180. Then, I was on my way to the old pyramids.
