Special thanks to my friend, who provided me with a great description for his and James's eye colour. You'll see : )

It was one of those rare days where the sun was shining and the rain was, for now, holding off. Almost all of the students at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry escaped the confines of the castle to soak up the seldom seen rays.

Unfortunately, Lily Evans was not one of those students. She was stuck inside the library with Remus Lupin. Not that she disliked the library or Remus, but she would rather have been outside with her friends in the sun than doing a Transfiguration project. Remus had been ill the last few days so he and Lily had been unable to meet up and finish their project. Now they were sat at a small table at the back of the library on this beautiful Sunday afternoon.

Remus looked up from the huge book in front of him a puzzled look on his face and said quietly, "Lily?"

"Hmm?" Lily barely even looked up from the parchment she was busy scribbling away on.

"I was just wondering why you always knock back James."

Lily's head now shot up causing her hair to fall haphazardly over her shoulders and around her face. Remus smiled. He understood why James liked Lily so much. She was beautiful in an unassuming way. Her hair was unusual and luscious at the same time. And she was one of the kindest people he had ever met. This was what was puzzling him. Lily was without question awful to James most of the time. Remus knew that James deserved it sometimes, but he could not, no matter how much he thought about it, understand how sweet Lily could be so mean.

"Surely I have made it clear after 5 years."

"Well, you see that's the thing, you never really give a reason you just say no."

"He is the most egotistical, arrogant, disgustingly boastful person I have ever met in my entire life!" Lily voice became louder as she spoke. "The way he is always running his hands through his hair and being sarcastic and smug to everyone really gets me annoyed!" Lily's angry voice was beginning to carry across the library.

The two students at the desk where entirely unawares that they were being watched. James Potter had been worried about his friend who had barely been able to get out of bed recently, so had stayed indoors to watch over him. Of course, the fact that Remus was working with James's favourite female also helped his decision to miss out on the sun. James's face was now turning into a wide grin as he witnessed the soft blush spread across Lily's cheeks as her anger built. Although Lily was a kind and patient girl, she could easily live up to her fiery red head nature when she wanted to. James loved to see her eyes flash with rage and her brow crease with fury. He was contemplating stepping out from his hiding place to defend himself when Remus spoke again.

"Yes, I will be the first to admit that James is arrogant sometimes, but that seems to be the only thing about him that you dislike. So surely, if he could change that you would give him a chance?" Remus's voice was quite and James held his breath to hear her answer.

Lily paused and felt the warmth in her cheeks intensify. "No I certainly would not! I hate everything about James Potter, there are absolutely no redeeming qualities about him!" She said stubbornly and folded her arms, a deep scowl set on her face.

James stepped out before Remus could speak and cleared his throat. Lily's head spun towards the noise, but Remus seemed unsurprised.

"Evans, there must be one thing you like about me." James looked straight into Lily's eyes, a smile threatening to curve his lips but his tone serious.

Lily was about to answer icily when she looked straight into his eyes. As usual the curious colour of them and their seemingly endless depths captivated her and she unconsciously spoke her mind.

"Well, you have the most beautiful eyes, but apart from that nope, nothing."

The library was for once completely silent. Lily's mouth dropped open in utter disgust at what she had just admitted and Remus's eyebrows almost disappeared into his shaggy hair. James however seemed to be struggling to keep back laughter.

"You think my eyes are nice!" He lost his fight with his mirth and let out a booming laugh. "Honestly Evans, I thought you were intelligent. My eyes are the colour of urine! Sirius teases me about it all the time."

Lily couldn't help it. His eyes had begun to sparkle when he laughed and her mouth acted of it's accord. "He shouldn't. They really are a wonderful colour. So rich and intriguing." She closed her mouth abruptly and looked down at her parchment.

"Thanks Evans, I think that has to be the nicest thing you have ever said to me."

"It wasn't a compliment, I was just stating a fact. Don't let it go to your head. Now, if you don't mind Remus and I have work to finish and you are a very annoying distraction." Her voice was brisk as she regained control of herself.

"Yes of course," James was grinning madly as he gazed at Lily's red face, " See you later Moony."

"Yeah, see you later."

Remus and Lily returned to their work. Remus had a tiny smile on his face as he watched Lily pull her hair over her shoulder to hide her red cheeks. He didn't mention James again.

A few hours later the two were packing up to go to dinner when Lily noticed Remus was looking very pale. His eyes were bloodshot and his hands shook almost imperceptibly.

"Remus, are you okay? If you are ill you should go to the Hospital Wing."

"I'm fine, thank you Lily."

He picked up his things without looking at her and began to walk away.

"Remus!"

Her concerned voice stopped him and he turned his head slightly.

"If you ever need anything, you know you can come to me don't you?" She told him sincerely.

"Yes, thank you Lily."

Lily watched his retreating back with a confused frown.

Remus joined his friends in the Great Hall ten minutes later.

"You look rough Moony," Sirius greeted Remus as he sat down and took a long drink of pumpkin juice.

"Thanks Padfoot, makes me feel so much better."

Peter sniggered beside Sirius as James peered more closely at Remus.

"Moony, I know you don't want to, but I really think we should have at least one break."

The three friends waited quietly for their fellow marauder to reply. He took three huge bites of shepherds pie before answering.

"I think I could maybe do with a months rest, but what if Slughorn caught us stealing from his store and none of us are good enough at potions to brew it properly anyway."

Sirius was the first to answer his friend, "For a start, the fear of getting caught has never stopped us before, so why should it now and-"

"we can just bribe someone else to brew it for us." James finished with a grin.

"Exactly!" Sirius clasped James on the back and returned his huge grin.

"None of the kids in our year could brew it and the ones above us wouldn't do it."

The friends quietly contemplate this before Peter spoke timidly.

"There is one girl in our year who is capable."

James's face turned to thunder as he hissed, "No! We are not getting her involved!" He turned away from his friends and scanned the tables.

"I could have been talking about Snivellus."

Remus and Sirius laughed, but James examined the Gryffindor table more closely.

"Where is she?"

His friends turned to investigate, but they too could not see Lily Evans at dinner.

"She said she was coming to dinner." Remus said

"Maybe she got waylaid by a book in the library, sounds like something she would do." Sirius muttered uninterested.

James carried on checking the table every few minutes during dinner, but she didn't arrive.

Lily was still sat at the same table in the library. Just as Sirius had suspected she was surrounded by huge piles of books. She was curious and when Lily Evans was curious it had to be sated. She had to find out what was wrong with Remus. All she knew was his symptoms and that they could have something ready to help him in a month.

She had poured over thousands of words huge lists of illnesses, but they only thing she had found that induced all of Remus's symptoms was being a werewolf. Lily kept looking until the library closed, she checked out the few remaining books she hadn't read and took them to her dormitory where she read well into the night. She found nothing. As she went to sleep she assumed that whatever Remus was ill with it must be something rare.
