Way Back When
-The Dance-
It was the first dance of the year. The theme was Vegas night, and even though I'd much rather have been there with Clare I had shown up alone. It was my fault, really. I'd been fighting with this guy, Fitz, because I had never been too fond of bullies. Basically he said that the only way he would lay off of me and my best friend, Adam was if Clare went to the dance with him. Jerk. Clare was just trying to help. She thought by saying yes it would fix everything. It might have. That is, if Fitz hadn't made that comment about having sex with her. Yeah, that's right; he was talking about having sex with MY girlfriend. Ass. So, I had to go to the dance. Just to make sure Clare was safe.
Once I had made my way to the dance plenty of drama was already underway. Apparently, Drew, Alli's boyfriend got some "favors" from the school slut, Bianca, after exams today and lied about it. He told Alli it was just a kiss. Man, this was going to be a mess. Whatever. I was looking for Clare. I had to be sure she and Fitz were in my line of view the whole night. I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I let some ass take my girlfriend's virginity. There. I found her standing at one of the tables next to Fitz and Adam. "Good" I thought. Adam has been keeping an eye on them.
I figured since Clare hadn't seen me yet it would be the perfect time to put my "Get rid of Fitz" plan into action. I pulled out the ipecac that I had brought and was just about to dump it into a drink that Fitz would receive as a "peace offering" when Clare walked up.
"Hi Eli."
"Hey." Man did she look gorgeous in that dress. The color really brought out the blue in her eyes. And what a pretty blue it was.
I couldn't think straight and I flubbed up instantly. I told her about the plan and the ipecac. She was not happy. "Damnit." I thought.
"Fitz just wants a proper apology. Give him that and he'll leave you and Adam alone for good."
And as much as I wanted revenge on Fitz I gave him his apology.
He accepted.
It was done and over with.
Clare was happy.
That's all that mattered.
Clare. Was. Happy.
