Chapter 4: Discovered

Draco walked silently, his footsteps masked by the damp grass. He stayed behind the trees, trying to conceal his presence from the people he was attempting to find. He saw them at last, sitting in front of a tent in a clearing between the trees. Draco crouched low, so that they wouldn't be able to accidentally spot him while talking. Now that he was closer, he could hear bits of the actual conversation.

"I don't know where we should look!" Potter told the others, sounding as though he had said this several times before.

"Well we can't just sit around here doing nothing!" Weasley shot at him. "I didn't abandon my home and school to go on some wild goose chase."

"Ron, calm down, we'll find them!" Hermione told her friend.

Draco didn't have the slightest idea what they were talking about finding, but didn't see how it really affected him. His job was only to bring them to Voldemort, not to decode their confusing messages.

The trio continued their pointless arguing for what felt like hours. Draco grew bored of listening to their conversation shortly after his arrival, and was entertaining himself by watching an ant crawl through the grass. It was not until he heard a mention of the Death Eaters that Draco began listening with some interest again.

"I still would like to know how those Death Eaters found us in the muggle world a few days ago," said Granger.

"Wouldn't we all. And I wonder why You-Know-Who didn't come for Harry himself," said the Weasley.

"Honestly, Ron, can't you just call him Vol-"

"Don't say it, Harry!"

"Why don't you want me to say his name?" asks Potter, glaring at his friend. "I said it this afternoon and nothing happened."

"Nothing that you know of." Thought Draco. Silently, Draco settled back into the grass. He lay there, listening to the trio argue amongst themselves. He knew that he needed to get on with the plan, but also was aware that he couldn't charge right out, grab all three of them, and apparate back without being hit by a curse first.

As night fell, Draco began to doze off, trying to make sure that he was thoroughly concealed from the eyes of the other teenagers. The last thing he heard before drifting into unconsciousness was Granger telling the others, "alright, I'll keep watch tonight." Keep watch for what? Oh, of course. For people like me.

It was pitch black when Draco awoke. He had rolled into a bush as he snapped awake from his dream, in which Voldemort was killing him. It was a dream he had almost every night, but it still managed to scare him even so. He didn't realize how loud he had been until he heard the footsteps. He peered through the bush he had carelessly rolled into and saw Granger a stone's throw away from him. Idiot! She's going to find you for sure!

Draco held his breath, but it didn't work. Truthfully, he hadn't expected it would. "Lumos," whispered the girl. The light at the end of her wand was dim, but in the darkness of the night it shone radiantly, lighting up both her face and Draco's so that they could see each other.

Granger looked as though she was staring at Voldemort rather than Draco. Perhaps it's because she thinks that I'm as bad as him now. Draco ignored the thought.

"Ron! Harry! Come here!" Although her voice wasn't loud, in the silence of the forest she could have shouted at the top of her lungs for all the difference that it made. Soon, both of her friends stumbled out of the tent.

"wuzz-goin-on?" asked a confused-looking Weasley.

Hermione trembled as she spoke. "I found…..I found……."

"Found what?" asked Potter, instantly alert.

Both boys rushed over to their friends side, as Granger whispered the words that they could now see for themselves. "I found Malfoy."
