Memories of the night before flash in his mind. His friends congratulating yet bemoaning his impending newlywed status.
Memories of ten months prior follow suit. On bended knee, box propped open. Beautiful blonde with tears in her eyes, nodding her affirmation.
Memories of three years earlier play on his soul. Matching hair and eyes- warm, brown, shining. So proud when his acceptance letter arrives for the prestigious program that will take him away from her, trusting that all will work out in the end.
He feels as empty as the overturned bottle of whiskey balanced precariously on the deck rail.
