A/N: Not a lot of action, but a little R&R fic here. Do you remember freshman math? I'm living it now, so why not put some of my dear characters through my misery as well. Out of all three of them, I'm probably Sam. So, part 2 of Bayville High ;)

Rahne sat at the back of the class, enough so the teacher could see her, but not enough for the teacher to see her all the time. She sat sunken in her seat, her feet propped on the seat in front of her. It was last period before lunch and she was tired. Sam sat nearer to the front, and the poor fool often got called on. He usually blathered out an answer and the kind teacher would correct him gently, her frizzy brown hair bobbing up and down as she tried patiently to penetrate his mind.

Rahne had to endure sitting next to Toad, who from what she could see from her view, was that he was neither a good test-taker (his best grade so far had been a C, next to which he promptly drew a smiley face), he didn't take notes (instead he chewed on his pencil or drew toads and witches, he wasn't that bad of an artist actually) and he never had his homework, instead giving the teacher witty excuses for everything. Today he seemed a bit more serious. He had settled down and seemed to be paying attention, even though he looked tired and extremely out of it. His legs were bunched to his chest and he was sketching shapes and equations half-heartedly.

The teacher, in her haste, had forgotten a few worksheets and stepped out of the classroom for a second. The class instantly came to life as the door closed behind her. Sam grabbed his book bag and hopped over to the pair and landed a seat right next to them, crashing into a few on the way. The teacher came back in, gathering her skirts around her and holding a stack of fresh worksheets. She glanced at Sam and then started handing out the worksheets. Sam flipped his shaggy blonde hair to the side to reveal his iron-colored eyes and spread out his notes. He was an average geometry student, struggling here and there a lot while overall understanding enough to pass to the next year of math. Rahne watched the teacher hazily and then scribbled a note to Toad.

"You allright me boy?"

Toad's eyes brightened as he saw the red-head drop the note to the floor and slide it towards him with the large, brown, hiking boots she had decided to wear that day. She then turned to the teacher while she explained a few theorems and postulates. She then graciously decided everyone could divide into groups of two or three and then sat back while all the friends who sat near each other pulled their desks together and got to work. Sam, Rahne, and Toad got closer together. Toad then passed back a slimy note to Rahne, she flipped it open.

"Yea, I'm fine, it's just that me and babycakes got in another little argument"

Rahne nodded compassionately and drew Toad a sad face with little tears coming from its eyes. Toad smiled and then leaned forward so he could hear the postulate that Sam was trying to solve. Rahne sighed, leaned over, and quickly did it for him, explaining each step with her chirp, knowledgeable, voice. Sam grinned goofily and nodded in agreement. Toad was following along patiently too. Wanda had made it clear to him that she would not hang around with a loser who had bad grades.

After another uneventful class, Rahne headed to lunch, her large black book bag carefully modeled on one shoulder of her bright green T-shirt. Sam ambled after her, fixing his hair, knowing he would be seeing Amara soon. Toad, who usually disappeared after math class to hang near the dumpsters by himself, now hesitated at the door. Rahne stopped and looked at his insecurity. She waved him over. He grinned and hopped over, and all three headed to lunch, none really talking.
