I'm more aware now of a girl-

(Viola)

(is that you?)

-and she's got my ma's journal, and she's reading it-

(to me?)

(the words I couldn't read before)

-and even if she's faking the accent it's almost enough.

Almost.

('cuz she ain't my ma)

No, she's Viola, ain't she?

I'm sure I've heard the words before as well and they seem to stand out in front of the millions, billions others I hear.

Her voice-

(Viola's voice?)

-stands out.

Even when she ain't reading the journal and she's not got the Prentisstown accent.

She - Viola - the girl who saves me-

Who I've saved-

Then she saves me again-

(We ever gonna be even?)

Like that, a memory, a burst of Noise and I'm remembering. I'm remembering parts and small, small pieces and I will find every part and piece and put 'em together.

'Cuz even if I can't remember, even if I don't know what's happening, I can feel her and she-

(Viola)

-ain't got any Noise, and I remember how I used to hate that about her and I hated that I couldn't read her-

But I could, I can-

I sometimes kinda see her, and she's kinda falling apart and she's calling for Todd, and I think I'm Todd but I'm not sure sometimes-

Then I see Ben-

(Ben, my pa in everything but blood)

-and he's telling her to wait, wait for Todd-

(wait for me?)

and I think he means me and so I wish I could tell her myself. I want to tell her to wait for me-

('cuz I am coming, I promise)

'Cuz everyday she sits talking to me I'm stronger, I'm closer, she's closer to bringing me back.

(she's saving me everyday)

('cuz that's what we do, ain't it?)

I may not know who she is but I do and it's a strange thing to say but it makes bloody rudding sense as well and I think I'm going insane but I see her, just slightly-

(Viola)

-and I know she's saving me.

And I'm coming-

(I promise, Viola Eade)

-'cuz I remember there her last name.

(E-A-D-E)

'Cuz I somehow remember more.

I remember when I killed that Spackle by the riverside and she was screaming at me not to-

I remember when Aaron-

(I remember Aaron)

-took her and then I saved her, and my bloody brilliant, brave dog-

(Manchee)

-saved her and me.

I remember when she was shot by Davy and she was dying in my arms and I felt so helpless and I told her she was not dying, she was not effing dying-

There's more but her voice is further now, further, further, but just 'cuz I can't hear her as clearly don't mean I'm giving up-

(no effing way)

'Cuz she keeps saving me.

(Viola keeps saving me)

(she is Viola, Viola Eade and I know that now)

(I'm sure of that now)

So keeping reading, keep being there, keep speaking, keep holding my hand-

(Todd, my name?)

Keep calling Viola-

I told you before, I'll try to tell you again-

My friend loaned me her copy of The Knife of Never Letting Go in October but I never got right into it until like two weeks ago, I was finished Monsters of Men by the Tuesday following that Wednesday and had my own copies ordered off Amazon the next night.

This is an AMAZING series and I hope you enjoyed my fanfiction contribution :)
