Today normal had crashed and burned.
Crashed and burned with Kate.
Holding the struggling conman in his arms Peter knew things wouldn't be normal again for a while.
Not for Neal. Maybe never for Neal.
Caffrey fought against him, wanting to go into the wreckage after Kate.
Peter tightened his arms around him. He would keep the younger man safe.
Safe, if not whole.
Even if Neal hated him for it.
And when Neal finally stopped fighting and sank to the ground sobbing Peter sank with him and in the heat of the flickering flames held him tightly.
