It was a new phenomenon with her, this hobby of gardening. All she wanted, she would say, was a little bit of earth. He was reminded of his sister's kid, who would watch The Secret Garden for hours on end and he would liken Mary to Lindsay. All she wanted was something to call her own.
She would care for the plants as if they were her children, talking softly to them and playing Beethoven to the ones slow to grow. She would watch the sky for rain, any sign of clouds.
The flowers were blooming, and so was she.
