Ch.6
I looked in the window more intently, gasping when I saw the full bodies of the two men inside.
My father was sitting on the desk, his arms lazily wrapped around Fugaku's neck, who was standing in front of him. Fugaku had his arms wrapped around my Dad's waist, and was kissed his cheek, nuzzling Dad's neck.
"-gaku, do you really think your sons are going to be…okay, with this? With us? It's not exactly like we can just hide a marriage…especially as two men, Fugaku." Dad chuckled, kissing a spot on Fugaku's neck, smiling up at him.
"Hn…no. But they can deal." Fugaku kissed my dad's lips lightly, smiling a little at the blonde.
"Ha, I doubt they'll like it…I know my own kids won't…Well…at least Naruto wont." Dad chuckled again, leaning his forehead against Fugaku's.
I looked over the two men, noticing that Dad's white button-up, which had been tucked un, neatly ironed, and buttoned up almost all the way, was now untucked, and completely unbuttoned, with lots of wrinkles. Fugaku's suit jacket was on the other end of the table, along with his own dress shirt.
Holy. Crap.
"Oh…god, ew, un. O-our Dad's are…oh god, un, oh god. I have this strange feeling…that…we might end up step-brothers." I looked, wide-eyed, to Itachi, who sat next to me, just as stunned.
"WHAT?" Naruto started to yell, but Itachi quickly covered his mouth, is onyx eyes never straying from the pair inside the office. I shushed Sasuke as he started making some awkward squealing noise and saying 'no, no, no'.
Dad turned towards the door, and I smiled guiltily as he made eye contact with me. He was shocked, but he looked back at Fugaku quickly, kissing the man again.
"Fugaku, we need to go." Dad spoke so quietly, Itachi and I could just barely make out the words. We looked at each other, then back at our respective younger brothers, before standing.
"Guys, get up, un. Dad knows we were here." I said, still trying to be quiet.
"What? Ho-" Sasuke interrupted Naruto, with a quiet snort and a quick, snappy reply, "Well, with you shouting a moment ago, it would've been impossible not to notice." I rolled my eyes, before quickly wiping off my jeans, and waiting for Dad and Fugaku to come out of the office.
The door opened, quick and easy, as Dad stepped out first. He looked at me, regret and guilt filling his deep cerulean eyes. I nodded, and turned to Fugaku, scrutinizing the man.
The man had a tight, nearly emotionless face, though even I could see the same emotions present in him; Though directed toward his own sons.
Naruto stood, staring down Fugaku, as if the man had just killed our father.
"Why…didn't you tell us? I mean…it...this wasn't…Dad…"Naruto's voice was quiet, weak.
"Naruto…how could I have told you? How could I have said anything, when all either of you say to me anymore is something about your mother?" Dad's voice was different; I'd never heard him so quiet, and…dejected, dead.
"I was reminding you, because you seemed to forget her more and more everyday! Do you even think of her anymore?" The Uchiha' had remained quiet, respectful to the argument at hand.
"Of course I do! I may not be the man you two must've thought I was, and I may not be strong like I used to, but I could never forget her. Naruto, I remember her more clearly than you can imagine. Do you know how it makes me feel when I think of her?" Tears welled in Dad's eyes, the blue lightening to an almost crystalline color. Naruto shook his head, his fists clenched at his sides.
"I feel sick. It can start wit any memory of her- when we were in school, even days before she passed, but it all turns to the same thing. The same image of her in her death. I've kept you from seeing any kind of carnage, you've never seen real blood, I've made sure of it. I don't ever want you to. But you need to understand, that seeing you're mother like that, seeing anyone like that, anyone you care for, is scarring. It never leaves you, never lets you rest." Dad slowly looked away, down to the floor, tears coming down from his eyes, silently streaming down his flushed cheeks. Naruto's fists clenched tighter, tears streaming down his own cheeks, and Sasuke looked to him worriedly, before looking back to Itachi, and their father.
"I need my peace, Naruto, and you need to accept that I've found it. I'm not saying make buddy-buddy with Sasuke and Itachi, and I'm certainly not telling you to call Fugaku your new father, but I'm telling you to at least try to understand this. You found your peace, but you chose to let it go. Now you can deal with it, because I refuse to deal with that kind of pain anymore." Dad slowly, mechanically turned away, looking to Fugaku for a moment, before walking down the hall, and sitting gently on the stairs there.
"Naruto…This isn't something any of us can control, un. I don't like it either, but if you think mom's memory is forgotten along with dad's new…relationship, un, you're wrong. I don't like it, but I know what he means when he says he's found his peace, un. I know that you aren't stupid, but you need to let this through your thick skull. Dad is finally getting rest, he can breathe, right now. He can go on, and not spend hours all night, crying over an old photo of him and mom when they were younger, un. Leave him be. Maybe you can work on fixing your own peace, un." I angrily moved away from him, Itachi's remorseful gaze catching my eye. I sighed, stopping to look at him, offering the biggest smile I could, which wasn't much.
Itachi and I have a past I'd rather not recall, but I have a feeling this whole situation is going to resurface unwanted memories…
