A/N: So much for finishing today huh? :D I haven't updated this story in over a year and I truly am sorry for that. Only three more chapters (including this one) until the end.
Several days later, Reba woke up alone. She looked over at Brock's side of the bed and realized it was still made, meaning he hadn't slept there the night before. Truth be told, she wasn't really even sure the last time they'd slept in the same bed and that scared her. She had a chance to save her marriage from the damage that had been done, but up to this point history had repeated itself. She wasn't about to give Brock to Barbara Jean, so she had to do the one thing she hated and was the most horrible at- apologize. The last time, they fought all the time and quit sleeping in the same room and it wasn't too long before she imagined Brock finding himself in Barbara Jean's bed and she fully intended to stop it.
She dressed and drove to Brock's dental office. As she anticipated, Barbara Jean was at the reception desk while Brock was with a patient.
"Hey Reba," Barbara Jean smiled.
"Hi Barbara Jean."
"Haven't seen you at work in a while. Are you feeling okay?
Reba nodded. "I'm better now. I just need to talk to Brock."
"I'll tell him you're here," she turned towards the hallway.
"No, I can tell him. Just tell me which room he's in."
"Exam room two," Barbara Jean responded and Reba walked down the hallway and found him finishing with a patient. When the man walked out of the room Brock looked over at her.
"Hey Reba."
"Hey Brock, we've gotta talk."
"Can it wait? I have a root canal scheduled next."
"No it can't." He stopped and looked at her. "I'm... I'm sorry. I never should have fought with you about Barbara Jean working here. I was just jealous of her... I guess."
"What?!"
"I was jealous of Barbara Jean and the time you spend together in the dental office."
"That's crazy."
"I know, but tell my head that!" She sighed. "I was afraid I'd lose you to her."
"Reba," he took her hand, "Barbara Jean is a dental hygienist. She cleans teeth, that's all. You are my best friend and my wife, I love you. There isn't anybody in the world I love to see first thing in the morning more than you."
"But you haven't slept in our room-"
"I slept on the couch to give you your space. It's not saying I don't love you. I still have the hots for you even after twenty-five years. Nothing can change that."
"Really?" She asked softly, almost unsure of herself.
"Of course. Now can we talk about this later? We have some making up to do, but the house payment's almost due and I really need to do this root canal." He kissed her tenderly and she laughed as she walked out of the office.
"I think we need a vacation." Reba said. She laid up against his bare chest in the bed and he ran his fingers through her hair.
"Where do you want to go?"
"I don't know," she said looking up at him. "We could take the kids skiing at Lake Tahoe."
"Is it cold enough for snow?"
"Should be," she replied.
"Then let's go. We can pack the kids up right now and head out."
"Not just yet," she kissed him again. "We can wait a few minutes." He leaned down and kissed her.
"Are you suggesting what I think you are?"
"Only if you think you're strong enough to take it."
"Let's see." Reba giggled as he kissed her.
The snow was fresh on the ground when they went out the next morning- perfect for skiing.
"You know if we had taken this vacation alone, we'd probably still be in the room?" Brock asked with a smile.
Reba laughed, "maybe so, but you'll find more action on the slopes, I promise." He wrapped his arms around her from behind.
"Why say something like that? We're good together. We always have been."
"Give me some skiing time and we'll talk about it." She kissed him before she pushed off and headed down the slope. Brock's theory proved to be right. Over the next several days he and Reba spent almost as much time inside as they were outside and it was helping to rebuild the relationship she felt they had lost- they were best friends on the slopes and lovers in the cabin. Reba knew this was the turning point in their relationship and nobody- not even Barbara Jean- could take that away.
