Hey everyone sorry it took so long for me to update. I had honestly finished this last week but ran into some technical difficulties. Anyway here is the sixth chapter. I hope you all like it! TheSkyKing just don't beat me up when you finish reading this ok. :P This chapter only has one small flashback. I am not really sure if you could call it a flashback. Moving on. This one however is chalk full of teasers. Well it has maybe two good teasers but still. As usual this story is a IkkixSimca fanfic so if you don't like the pairing please do not read the story. Luckily no one has yet so yay! Disclaimer: I don't own Air Gear although it would be pretty cool if I did. Enjoy!
Chapter 6
Simca crossed her arms and glared angrily at her brother. "Well I have something to say to him." Simca pointed to Kilik. "Also Ikki has something he would like to say to you." She moved her hand and pointed in Sora's direction but he just smirked smugly.
"Shouldn't you have something to say to me to?" Simca tilted her head in obvious confusion so he went on. "I was the one who let my brother run rampant wasn't I? You should have some quarrel with me to. Right?" He raised his head but Simca turned her back towards him.
She looked at Ikki and caught him glaring at Sora. "That is another matter and it isn't as pressing at the moment." She stepped closer to Ikki and laid her hand on his shoulder. "I think his issue is though. Also like I mentioned before, I do have business with him." She looked at Kilik without pause for a few seconds before she turned back to Sora and then back to Ikki. "I am going to go to the roof to speak with Kilik so you have the whole room to yourself. Let him have it." She smirked and started to walk out of the room when Ikki grabbed her arm. She turned around startled by his touch.
He looked down at her with worry tinted in his brownish red eyes. "Are you sure you will be alright on your own." He grasped her shoulder, not hard but softly. He examined her for a moment, searching for any hint of doubt or hesitation.
She brought her hand up to his and slid it off of her shoulder. "I can handle myself just fine crow. There really isn't any need to worry about me." She turned back towards the door but paused and tilted her head back towards Ikki. "Thanks though." She smirked and walked out of the room motioning for her brother to follow.
Ikki stood looking at the doorway in silence until Sora interrupted his thoughts.
"Uh-hm" Sora cleared his throat and got Ikki's attention. "Oh good for a second there I thought I had lost ya'." He smiled at Ikki with the same smile as before as if nothing had happened.
Ikki stared at him for a while, while he collected his thoughts. "So how are you?" Ikki asked while he watched him curiously.
Sora began to pace around the room. "I am doing great especially since they got me some more legs. These are good ones too! Top dollar I bet." He looked at Ikki who hadn't moved from where he was standing. "It pays to know the owner of the hospital sometimes huh?" He chuckled and Ikki shifted uncomfortably.
"So you are well enough to walk and all." He didn't pose it as a question but Sora took it upon himself to answer him anyway.
"Ye~ah! I got a clean bill of health." He paused and looked up at the ceiling. "Well aside from my injuries, which are healing. They tried to get us to sit still but asking a paraplegic and a control freak to sit down when they have the option and strength to move doesn't work to well." He stopped pacing when he reached his bed. "Why do you ask anyway?" He sat down on his hospital bed. "Do you want to hit me?" He glanced in Ikki's direction and waited for his answer.
Ikki moved from his spot in the middle of the room to a spot on the wall a foot or two from the door. He leaned on the wall closest to Sora's bed and closed his eyes as if he was meditating on what to say or do next. He opened his eyes again; they were steely and cold. He inhaled and exhaled deeply then turned his body to face Sora. "Well here goes nothing I guess."
Simca had finally reached the very top of the stairs and Kilik was not far behind. She was impressed that despite all he had been through he was recovering rapidly. When he reached the third stair from the top she turned around and pushed open the door leading outside. She stepped through the threshold and looked at the scenery surrounding the roof of the building. She took a few more steps and inhaled deeply letting the crisp fresh air fill her lungs. She looked back behind her at her brother who was standing by the door looking at her cautiously. Simca turned around to face him while she backed up to the ledge and leaned on it. She made sure she kept her bearings so the she would not have a repeat of what had occurred just days ago. She smirked at her brother as the windswept around her and through her hair.
"You haven't developed a sudden fear of heights have you?" She tilted her head and giggled lightly while her grey eyes pierced him with unreadable curiosity.
Kilik took a few more steps away from the door. His hesitation did not come from any sort of newly developed fear of heights, just the thought of his sister's intention in bringing him all the way up to the roof. He took a deep breath to settle himself then returned the sharp gaze his sister was sending him. "Do you intend to kill me?" He asked plainly.
Simca didn't answer at first. Instead she looked up at the azure sky and sighed as the wind blew her hair around and forced her to push it back behind her ears. A few more minutes went by and then she turned to face her brother. "Why would you think I wanted to kill you Kilik? Is it maybe because you feel guilty for leaving me behind… For leaving us behind!" She leaned back on the railing to steady herself and to try and hide her shaky sweaty hands. She calmly took another deep breath and looked back at Kilik. He seemed calm as usual although he did seem a bit confused. His calmness pissed her off more than anything. "Did you forget?"
Kilik looked at her with unwavering eyes. "I have not forgotten." The wind circled around them trying to fill the silence.
Simca turned away from him and gathered her thoughts and then turned back around. "Why did you do it?" She had phrased it as a question but Kilik said nothing. He just stared at her with his cold eyes in silence. "Why did you have to mess everything up Kilik? We were ok; everything was fine, so why did you have to do it? Why couldn't you just leave her alone?"
"You wouldn't understand." Kilik wasn't looking at Simca anymore; instead he was staring at the ground.
Simca put her hands on her hips and flipped her hair back sighing exaggeratingly. "Oh don't give me that Kilik." She stared at him directly and waited for him to look at her.
Kilik raised his head and they made eye contact. "I understand now what it is like to be in love…"
"Well then you should understand." Kilik interrupted her. "Why even ask a question you already know the answer too?"
Simca shook her head. "It is true that I understand what it is like to be in love with someone. I even understand what it is like to fall in love with someone who may not love you back; but what I can't understand is why you couldn't leave it alone."
"You should know. You just said yourself that you understood…"
"I did say that but I don't understand how you could be so selfish. I am in love and I know he may not feel the same but I would do anything so that I could stay by his side. I want him to do what makes him happy." She looked to the side and raised her head back towards the sky. "Besides, I don't even think that I deserve him anyway." She looked back at him with anger in her eyes. "Which is also partly your fault."
Kilik stepped back and cocked his head to the side. "How are your insecurities my fault?"
Simca rolled her eyes. "Really, you have to ask? It's your fault because you left, because you split up our family over your own desires."
Kilik looked at her but his eyes did not waver nor did his facial expression; its hardness was still there.
Simca waited and then decided to continue. "I want to stay by the man that I love even though he may not love me in return. No matter what I want to protect him, I want to help him grow, I want to watch him grow, and I want to be there for him when he needs me. When he falls I want to be there to pick him right back up. He is my life now and he will be my life always. I am not selfish. I do not want to ruin his life or mine." She started to walk towards him but then swirled back around. "I mean what did you get out of it? Your selfishness I mean. You can't be near her; you are now forced to watch her from afar. The only thing that has changed is the distance between you two. Although, my life has changed drastically, I am the one that really suffered… Well I guess it wasn't just me was it? They suffered too, especially him the one that looked up to you the most. I had to leave them behind because I could no longer help them, or myself." She turned back to the door and started walking towards it. "There is no point in me talking to you is there?" She turned her head so that she could see him clearly. "Goodbye Kilik."
Kilik stood still and watched her as she approached the door to the stairway.
Simca reached her hand out to the door but she was stopped in her tracks by Kilik who now had her arm in his hand. "Now we are getting somewhere." She said smirking.
Ikki stared at Sora and sighed. "I did have to talk to you." He watched Sora closely so that he could monitor his reactions.
Sora smiled and swung his feet onto the bed, he stretched his legs laid back and put his arms behind his head. "Shoot. I have all the time in the world." He looked up at the ceiling smiling widely. "I am really interested in what you have to say."
Ikki looked at him and found it annoying that he seemed so relaxed about the situation. "Why go through all of the trouble of befriending me? What was the point of it? Did you just want to break me?" He eyed Sora suspiciously. "Why do you want Rika so much? Is it just for control?"
Sora closed his eyes at some point during Ikki's barrage of questions but his smile never faded. "Well that's a lot of questions there." He chuckled. "Well I guess I'll answer them in order then." He sat up and propped himself against the headboard on the bed. He started to speak and stopped. "Ah, that's right. I almost forgot." He reached behind him and pulled out a pillow then he leaned forward to the edge of his bed and grabbed a pillow on that end. He spent some time folding them and placing them behind him for support and then he finally leaned back and sighed. "I guess that's good enough."
Ikki looked at him and rolled his eyes.
"Alright I guess I am ready to answer some questions!" He said enthusiastically. "Well first let me just say that I am a bit of a genius."
Ikki sighed but said nothing.
"So I can be calculating at times. That is just a warning in case I don't have or show the reactions that you want me to." Then he chuckled loudly. "You know that was one of the things that pissed Rika off so much." He wiped a fake tear and continued on. "Well first answer, I befriended you because I thought you were cool and you reminded me of me at a younger age. Of course I won't say that it had nothing to do with your potential. I figured I could mold you and use you as a second in command."
Ikki shifted his body to another spot on the wall. "I thought that Nike was your second in command."
Sora turned to look at Ikki and smiled wider. "Nike was my muscle. He unfortunately didn't have the brains to be my second in command, but you did." He opened one of his eyes to get a good look at Ikki and then turned back around. "So where was I? Oh, that's right! So I guess I answered two questions at once huh?" He turned back to smirk in Ikki's direction. "The "breaking you" part came later but you had the smarts to realize all of the possible reasons I would have had to do what I did. That's what I was looking for. Not to mention the skills and talents you possessed. Anyway like I was saying I only thought about that part as a contingency plan. You know just in case I thought that you wouldn't follow me, which unfortunately was the case. It was a last resort that I was hoping that I wouldn't have to use."
Ikki just watched him but said nothing in response to his answers because he had already figured out his reasoning, he just wanted to confirm and see what else he might have said.
"As for Rika…"
Ikki eyes pierced him and the tension in the room rose.
"God, I didn't even say anything yet. Jesus." He laughed. "Well I guess that it is good that you are as protective as you are." He sighed and sat up and turned towards Ikki. "As for Rika, well I can't say that it has nothing to do with control but I really do have feelings for her. I always have."
Ikki looked at Sora with judgmental eyes unconvinced by his claims of love for Rika.
Sora shrugged and chuckled. "Hey believe what you want but that look won't change my answer."
Ikki stared down at the ground and pondered Sora's answers in his mind. "Well if you actually care about my sister then try to be less controlling and more understanding." He raised his head and bore his blazing amber eyes down on Sora. "Just don't hurt her again or you will regret it." The tension broke suddenly and a beeping sound filled the air.
Sora looked at Ikki and nodded towards the boy's pocket. "I think that's for you."
Ikki watched him closely and reached into his pocket. He slid the phone from between the slit in his jeans and lifted it to his ear. "What is it?"
"Ikki you got to hurry up and get here man!" The breathless boy replied. "It's urgent!"
Ikki stood up and walked away from Sora careful not to turn his back completely to him. "What's going on? Is that you Kazu?" Ikki cupped his hand around the phone and his ear to try and improve the sound quality but there was barely any noticeable change.
"Our turf! It's being attacked!"
Ikki's eyes widened and he raised his voice in frustration. "Who, who is it Kazu?" There was static for a few more minutes and Ikki's patience began to wear thin and he started to call Kazu's name once more. "Ka….."
"We don't know who it is. We have never seen them before." There are a few clanging sounds in the background. "Whoa! Hey watch it! Ikki you got to get over here right now!" A few shouts were heard along with more clanging. "Oh and… What! There was a small pause and then Kazu spoke. "Ikki bring Simca too!"
Ikki raised an eyebrow and gripped the phone tighter. "Why do I need to bring Simca?"
Kazu sighed loudly on the other end. "Just bring her here man! I'll tell you why when you get here."
The phone call disconnected leaving Ikki standing in the floor felling more than a little befuddled.
"Trouble in paradise I take it."
Ikki's head whipped around and he sauntered back over towards Sora. "What did you do?" He stood in front of Sora imposingly.
Sora shrugged nonchalantly. "This time I have nothing to do with your issues?" He glanced up at Ikki and smiled, "Although, I am curious to know why they want you to bring Simca."
Ikki shrugged and turned away from Sora. "I don't know. He said something about regalia. Maybe she has awesome regalia that can take those guys down."
Sora nodded in response to his statement. "That is true. Her regalia can do a lot of damage."
Ikki started to pace while shaking his head and then he stopped abruptly. "Wait I don't think I have ever seen Simca's regalia. Come to think of it; I don't think she ever used it." He spun back around to look at Sora. "If her regalia is so awesome how comes she never uses them. How come she didn't use them to protect herself against Ringo? Shouldn't Ringo have known about her awesome regalia?"
Sora smiled and lifted himself up. He walked over to Ikki and stood in front of him and laid his hands on his shoulder. "That's the genius that I like to see. These are all great questions, very observant. The only thing I can really say is that she can't use her regalia."
Ikki started to object but Sora cut him off.
"I can't say anymore than that because the reason may be something that Simca might not want you to know."
Ikki stared at Sora, his eyes showed a little hint of sadness or possibly distress. "Does it have anything to do with her headaches?" His face mirrored his concern and Sora looked at him sympathetically.
"You and Simca are that close huh?" He shook his head. "She would never tell anyone about that unless she trusted them."
Ikki lowered his head as he began to relive that very exposing moment for Simca. "I just… she was staying at my house. She didn't tell me anything."
Sora eyed Ikki suspiciously. "You know Simca is like my younger sister. We may show it in a different way but that doesn't change the fact that I might be a little protective."
Ikki started to retort to his very hypocritical statement but was interrupted by a knock on the door.
"Hey Crow? Can you explain to me why Agito is texting me to hurry up and take you somewhere?" Simca leaned up against the door looking slightly perturbed.
Ikki jumped and looked at his watch. "Damn!" He ran to the door and grabbed Simca's hand. "Thanks for the chat but we aren't finished. Come on Simca!"
Simca spun around and yelped when Ikki grabbed her hand and pulled her down the hall. "Hey wait a minute Ikki!"
Kilik walked around the corner and stood in the doorway. "What was that about?" He turned to look at Sora.
Sora smirked and looked up at the ceiling. "Youth man."
Kilik cocked his head but said nothing further; instead he looked behind him at the window at the end of the hall. "I like our old room better."
Sora threw his head back in a bout of laughter. "It's your fault that we can't go back to that room."
Kilik walked back into the room looking slightly annoyed and flopped onto his bed.
Ikki dashed down the streets at top speed with Simca trailing behind. He knew he should be focused on what they were racing into, it did sound pretty chaotic over there. He thought to himself but he found that his mind kept drifting back to what Sora had said to him, "The only thing I can really say is that she can't use her regalia."
Simca turned her head back and looked at the swirling scenery around her.
"Simca?"
Simca turned back to Ikki. His face held that seriousness that made Simca's heart pound. She looked away for a moment so that she could calm her racing heart. Then she noticed that their hands were intertwined. She shook away her very girlish reaction and looked back up at Ikki. "What is it?"
He didn't turn to look at her; he just focused on the path ahead. "Could I ask you something?"
Simca noticed that his voice had quieted, even though she heard him she could tell just by that, that he wasn't quite sure if he should ask. She worried about what he would ask. There were so many things that he could ask her. Some things were things that she wasn't ready to talk about or she would never be ready to talk about, especially with him. She sighed.
Ikki could tell by the long pause that she was hesitant but he wasn't quite sure what she was hesitant about. "Simca it's ok if..." He turned back to look at her but he realized that her eyes had a more shocked expression. Ikki skidded to a stop and Simca did the same. He turned to face her and bent down to look her in the eye. "What's wrong?" He finally asked.
Simca stood there in front of him gaped mouthed at something and then she realized that he had asked her a question. She replayed what she was unconsciously listening to in her mind and then responded. "I think we are here."
Ikki turned around and saw their school courtyard packed with people above that were hundreds of people standing or sitting on the roofs; stadium seats had been placed up there at some point in time and people sat in every available seat. In the middle of the courtyard Ikki was able to pick out some familiar faces. Kazu, Onigiri, Agito, Bucha, and a few others from some teams they fought in the past were all standing on one side trying to fend off the attackers. The people from the other side were people that Ikki had never seen but one person caught his attention. A tall figure towards the back of the opposing line towered over all of the others on his side. He wore a hood and donned a makeshift belt that was obviously just rope with a buckle lopped onto the front of it. Everyone stood around him defensively so Ikki was able to formulate that he had to be the leader.
Simca was looking elsewhere at another figure with a hood fashioned over his head. His hood had red flames that decorated the edges; the rest of the jacket from what she could see was jet black. She didn't know why but she felt as if she knew him and she couldn't pry her eyes off of him. The figure turned in her direction but Simca did not waver she looked at him head on. It was a frustrating attempt considering no matter how she turned, jumped, or looked down she still couldn't see. Eventually she conceded defeat seeing as there was no way she could see him clearly even if he removed his hood. She looked up at Ikki and tried to judge his reaction although, he should have been angry. Any person would be. She thought to herself. Although, he should have been angry his face showed no signs of it. Not even a tiny trace of anger appeared or formed on his face. Instead he stood tall with his hand under his chin and looked down at the unfolding battle before him strategically. Even though she had no idea what he was thinking she could tell. She could almost see the cogs turning inside his head. Even though she held no claim on him she was proud of the man he was becoming. She stood closer to him as if she could literally feed off of his strength.
Ikki saw the battleground for what it really was. He could see the strategy from the enemies stand point and could map out his own counter strategy but something didn't feel right. He slightly tilted his head in Simca's direction. How can Simca help? He pondered to himself. She still hasn't completely recovered from Ringo's attack so she wouldn't be strong enough to fight and when I asked Kazu he seemed to be relaying information given to him, mainly because of what he said "Oh and...What! Ikki bring Simca." Even if he asked for her himself he wouldn't have known about her regalia so what help would she have been. Ikki looked back towards the man in the hood. How does he know Simca? He stared at the man and made a decision.
"Simca stay up here." Ikki turned back to Simca.
"Why?" Simca folded her arms and flipped her hair in a rebellious fashion.
Ikki sighed. He knew that it wouldn't be easy to convince Simca to stay out of it, for now.
"I haven't figured out what their plans are. So until I do I don't want you out there… more for your safety than anything else." He looked at her pleadingly.
"Fine."
Ikki rolled his eyes and sighed. "Simca come on! I just don't want you to... Wait what?"
Simca giggled and rolled her eyes as well. "I said fine. I will stay out of sight, at least for now." She added with a mischievous smile.
Ikki ignored her obvious gesture and continued on after clearing his throat exaggeratedly. "Good then." He turned away from her and looked up at the sky with a hint of blush that the darkening sky hid well on his cheeks. "Well I am going to go down there now so..." He looked at her and then back at the center repeatedly. "Stay. Stay up here I mean. Until I say so. So...don't move from this spot ok cause I..."
Simca walked over to him and stood directly in front of him. She was close enough that she could feel his rising body heat radiating from his body. "You were pretty cool for a while there. Don't ruin it." She smirked at him and placed her index finger on his chest and stepped closer to him until their bodies were pressed against each other. "Now go. Your team is getting beat pretty badly." She pushed him with her finger and then turned back around and walked over to the other side of the roof.
Ikki sucked in air and held his breath while Simca's finger was pressed up against his chest. His face turned bright red and he tilted his head upward until she walked away and was no longer touching him. He hopped onto the side of the roof and looked back at her over his shoulder. She glanced back in his direction and nodded. Ikki nodded back and jumped off of the roof into the chaos below.
Simca sighed and he cheeks flushed red when she began to recall that look. Those eyes the expression on his face sent chills up Simca's spine. Her attention was taken by the man in the hood that Ikki had been looking at. Something about his build reminded her of someone and another chill went up her spine but this was not a warm feeling. That particular feeling left Simca shaking slightly and backing away from the edge of the roof. It can't be him. She thought to herself while she shook her head wildly as if that motion solidified her claim. He left a long time ago. He wouldn't come back. Not now. She averted her attention to Ikki who was just then arriving in the fray.
Ikki neared the disturbance and started to slow down; he came to a halt next to Kazu who didn't notice him at first because he was fending off an attacker.
Kazu who had been fighting since the newcomers showed up had become completely engrossed in the battle. He didn't even realize that his friend was standing next to him until he cleared his throat. Kazu pushed back the shaggy looking boy and whipped his head to the side prepared to fight again. "Wait." He focused on him and cheered. "Ikki! Hey everyone Ikki is here!" The others turned around and a mixture of sighs and cheers filled the courtyard.
"Where have you been Ikki!" Onigiri flipped upright and smiled.
"F*** crow! Where the hell were you? You just took your damn time getting here didn't you?" Agito shoved his hands into his pockets and straightened his back. His hand reached up and slid the eye patch over. "Ikki you're back! Akito charged at Ikki but he missed only by a hairs length. He began to pout when he noticed that he hadn't succeeded. "Aw! Ikki! You are so mean!" His hand reached up and slid the patch over again. "Damn it! Stop coming out when no one wants you around!" Agito shook his head and turned his back to the others.
"Hey crow! I didn't think you would make it in time!" Bucha added jovially as he laughed.
The rest of the group waved and screamed hello.
Ikki stood tall and proud as he received the love and admiration of his followers. "Yeah everyone your savior has arrived." He said smugly then everything around him grew quite. He turned around until he found the cause. The man who had been standing in the back had begun to walk forward towards him. He turned to face him completely and immediately switched back to serious mode. His back straightened he stood with his feet further apart and stood completely still.
The man in hood stopped a few feet from him and looked around. "Where is she?" His voice was deep and commanding and he spoke as if he was used to giving commands and having people follow them.
Ikki wasn't impressed but he felt that his initial thought to keep Simca out of the way was a smart one. "Where is who?" He shrugged nonchalantly. "I don't know what or who you are talking about." His eyes never looked away from the man.
The hooded man scoffed and spoke again. "Where is Simca?" He raised his head slightly so that he could see Ikki's face. "I know you know who she is." He smiled and Ikki felt his skin crawl.
"First, how about you remove your hood so we can talk face to face?" He watched him carefully and expected some opposition from him but he received none.
The man nodded. "Fine." He reached his hand up to his head slowly.
Ikki readied himself for whatever the man was planning to do.
He slid his hood back slowly and it fell onto his shoulders.
Simca who had decided to move closer so that she could see Ikki stopped in her tracks when the hooded man stood with his face exposed to the world. A few people around Simca gasped when they realized that he was the son of one of the major business tycoons in Japan. Simca of course didn't care much about that. She found herself shaking and she fell onto her knees and started gasping for air. Noticing that she was attracting attention she slipped back and used what strength she had left to return back to the roof that she had started on. She would have loved help right then. She would have begged for someone to take her away from there but she had already occupied enough attention to make one of Ikki's friends look up. She couldn't afford to gather so much attention that he would find her. At least not while Ikki was there. She shuddered at the thought and waited and pondered all of her options.
Ikki folded his arms and leaned his head back. "Well that was anti climatic." Ikki reached his hand up to his ear and dug in it for a minute and then removed it and plucked away some ear wax. Then he covered his mouth to contain a yawn. "Well now that that's done we can get to business." He smirked and looked in the direction of the building that Simca was on. "Let's start this battle then. We will play by the air trekking rules. We will start here and finish at a trailer called the "Glum Slum". It is an AT shop on those railroad tracks over there. Just follow that and you should see it eventually. Inside battles are allowed during the fight. Whichever team gets there first wins, then maybe we can talk. That alright with you?" He smirked at the man.
The man walked up closer to him and leaned forward and sneered. "Sure.
