Chapter 8
Remember
Once the girls returned from their trip to the mall, Kori had decided to retreat to her room with only one bag in hand. Even when Raven and Starfire went to the mall, Raven had at least two bags so the fact that she had more items surprised everyone. Kori, obviously, didn't find anything that was at fault with this and only believed that there wasn't anything that caught her eye there. So after a greeting to the rest of the Titans, she left the room.
"So what happened? Is Kori making two trips or something?" Beastboy eagerly asked Raven and crowded her along with the other two male Titans.
"Question: why would she make two trips carrying only one bag at a time? And nothing much happened."
"Define 'nothing much". What happened? I want to know every detail of what happened. Anything that can help us decide whether or not she remembers." Robin crossed his arms across his chest and was tapping his foot anxiously. He may have spoken in his leader voice but on the inside, he was like a child waiting to get their ice cream.
"Well, we got to the mall and people didn't bother us, thanks Azar," Raven muttered, "so they didn't know about the situation with Kori. Well I thought that it would help bring back a memory or two if we went to her favorite store so we did that…"
"But…" Cyborg repeated.
"But she hated it. Kori continued to complain about the clothes that they had there and wanted to buy clothes that were, and I quote, 'less of a woman who wishes to bring attention to her body' and only bought jeans and long shirts or sweatshirts. I kid you not, that girl refused to show any skin. So when that method of the store didn't work, I took her to the places in the mall that she always said that she would remember forever."
"And…" Beastboy
Raven's distraught face said it all, "Nothing. And when she did say something, it would be about something that our Starfire wouldn't say."
Raven had explained her reason in a whisper but Robin had been the only one to catch it. He was agitated that everyone was using 'Kori' instead of 'Starfire' mostly because he felt like they just gave up on the fact that she would return. How can they just act like Starfire doesn't exist anymore? It's like they don't even care if she remembers and are just giving up on her!
Raven, accidentally hearing in on Robin's thoughts narrowed her eyes towards him. His face was stoic but his emotions were haywire. "How dare you," she accused in a dark voice. Her glare was directed to Robin who sensed that she was watching him. He raised his eyebrow in curiosity and asked, "Did you say something Raven?"
"How dare you say something like that?"
"Like what? I didn't say anything."
"You okay Raven?" Beastboy got closer to Raven and laid a hand on her shoulder. He knew that Starfire and Raven were like sisters and that fact that Starfire, or better yet Kori, forgot about her past, well that must have been like a slap to Raven's face.
"No, I am beyond 'okay'." Raven walked up to Robin as he subconsciously took a step back. She pointed a finger at him and said, "How dare you even think that we don't care about Starfire? Of course we care about her! It may not be in the same way that you care about her but she is like a sister to me, to all of us in fact!"
"Whoa, whoa, whoa, hold on a sec here," Cyborg held up his hands and slowly approached Raven and Robin who were at each other's face at the moment. "what are you two talking about?"
"Yeah, what's going on? Did Robin say something that I didn't hear? These ears may be big but that doesn't mean that they don't pick up wax every once in a while." Beastboy jammed a finger in his left ear and took out a small amount of ear wax.
"If I wasn't so disgusted with Robin right now, then I would be disgusted with you right now." Raven's attention went from Robin to Beastboy and although there was a small hint of annoyance seen in her face, there was a slight hint of a smile in there. But when Robin spoke once again, the look of anger returned.
"Raven, seriously, what did I do wrong?" Robin reached out to touch Raven's shoulder but she jerked away from him.
"Raven," instead of letting Robin touch her, Beastboy touched her shoulder and she automatically relaxed within his grip. "Can you please tell Cyborg and me what's going on here?"
"Cyborg and I tofu brain."
"Oh, yeah, can you please tell Cyborg and I what's going on here?"
"Well the Boy Blunder here thinks that we don't care about Starfire. As if we're acting like Starfire doesn't exist anymore and we are just giving up on her. That we don't care if she remembers or not!"
"Wait a minute," Robin took a step toward Raven and he raised his voice, "you went into my mind? I thought you only did that when you thought that it was necessary!"
"That's true but your emotions were all over the place! You were practically begging me to read your mind!"
"That is an invasion of privacy!" Robin extended his arms and then ran a hand through his hair.
"I'm sorry but if one of my friends is in distress then I try to help them! That's just who I am and if you don't like it then tough!" She had had enough of Robin for one night. Raven turned around curtly which caused her cloak to fly lightly in the air and wrapped itself around her legs as she walked. But when she opened the door, Kori was there.
"Oh, um, hi Kori, how are you?" Beastboy asked awkwardly.
"Actually, I am well. I wish to tell you all something and I believe that it is quite important." Kori walked past Raven but also managed to grab her forearm and pull her back towards the group of boys. She walked them to the couch and sat Raven down and went to stand at the front of the couch. She motioned for the boys to join them, which they did immediately and Robin seemed to somehow take the seat that was closest to Kori.
"So, what's up?" Beastboy sat in between Robin and Raven and had his arms resting across the top of the couch.
"Yeah, everything okay?" Cyborg sat in the end next to Raven and rested his head on his hand which was on top of his lap.
"Everything is well friend! I just wanted to say that…" Kori looked at all four of the Titans and took a deep breath before continuing. "…I think I won't be able to remember anything else from my past."
Back when Robin was asking about the details about Kori, I know that that was a terrible simile. I know it's been a while since I updated but hey, life gets in the way. There are some times when things get bad and I just say, "Thanks Life! Please, do throw more challenges in my way!" And Life decides to agree with me and does so. But when I ask for it to ease up on me, it disobeys me. Oh well, I signed up for this.
As for the summer, I don't know about my updating schedule. I'm planning on volunteering, getting a job, getting my permit and possibly two camping trips that my family and my friend wants me to attend. Just know that nothing's set in stone because when I plan something, it usually doesn't turn out that way. Procrastinating helps too but sometimes it's just bad timing really. Enough of that, please follow, fav, review, and all that good stuff. I don't own anything but Warner Bros. and DC Comics do!
Always yours,
light is in the dark
P.S. Sorry about the terrible ending! But consider this chapter a "gift" from me to you!
