Chapter 9
X'hal
"Wait what? Did I just hear you right?"
"I am afraid so Beastboy. Please, let us sit before I explain why I think this." Kori motioned her hand towards the couch and the Titans followed her lead and sat down.
Before anyone was able to ask what Kori meant, she spoke up. "When we returned home from the mall, I went to my room. After I put away the clothes I had purchased, I decided to attempt and remember anything from my past. I even decided to do what Raven has often done since I've been here and meditated while saying her mantra." Kori turned to Raven and said, "I hope you do not mind but after I tried it, I found that it soothes me."
"Of course not, please continue." Raven responded and Kori nodded before continuing.
"Well, I did that and there were some things that came to mind, but it was only about minor events that happened to me." Kori looked at everyone and when her eyes landed on Cyborg, he spoke up and said, "Do you mind telling us what those memories are? I just wanna know exactly what you know." Kori once again nodded in agreement and began.
"Obviously, I remember everything from the time I woke up in your medical room up until now so I don't think there is anything that you should know from there. Nothing much has happened so you need not worry. However, I realized that there were some things that I carried with me since I woke up here. For instance, on the day that I had found Silkie in my room, Robin was the last one to leave and for some unknown reason, to which I do not know to this day, I had said 'Pleasant shlorvaks' but the door was closed by the time I said that." Before anyone opened their mouths to say something, Kori continued.
"And on my first day here, when you all had asked what to call me, for some unknown reason the name Koriand'r came to mind. That was where I tore apart the name and came up with Kori. I do not know why that name seemed so important for it to come to me. I am hoping that perhaps at least one of you know what that means since I do not." Kori, once again, fixed her gaze on everybody's face but all of them seemed confused. Disappointed, she continued.
"Although, I must admit that on the first day here I felt something about one of you." Kori managed to not look at Robin, but instead blushed as she felt him look at her. "Meaning that the only person I will speak to is Raven so do not ask any questions." To make it more intimidating than it came off to be, Kori added a glare and looked at every person in the room. "I believe those are the only parts that I remember which is unfortunate." The faces that were displayed across the room all showed disappointment since it was such a short list. But the only person who was thinking optimistically was Robin who was thinking, "At least she remembers something."
"W-Well can you tell us why you can't remember anymore?" Robin asked.
"Yes," Kori continued her story but there was a slight hint of pleasure in her voice, "while I meditated, those things came to mind and when I attempted to recollect my memories further, it was all a blank. I even became agitated at the number of times I failed to remember. There was a point where I had gotten so angry that I swear to X'hal," unbeknownst to her, Kori pointed up towards the ceiling and closed her eyes in frustration while Beastboy grinned from ear to ear at the mention of X'hal, "I felt like I would have lost control of something within myself."
"And, uh, what exactly would you have lost control of Star?" Beastboy had asked. Now he knew that he called her "Star" but the nickname came out of his mouth naturally. They had called her that for years and to just forget about it in a second was nearly impossible. Besides, Beastboy had a feeling that she wouldn't correct him. At least, he hoped that she wouldn't do so.
"I am unsure but I assure you that it would not have been good." Kori snapped at Beastboy. One more moment passed until Kori felt like she could relax, which she did, and took a deep breath to which she let out a few seconds later. "I would like to apologize for my behavior but I believe I need to rest for the rest of the day." No one was able to disagree since Kori had already made her way past the doors and into the hallway.
The painful silence took over the entire room until Beastboy spoke up with a grin on his face. "Did you guys hear that? She said 'X'hal'."
There are two directions I can go for this story. Now I know that you all probably want Starfire to remember everything and everyone but I'm not sure if I can go for that. Sure, I could make her accidentally hit her head and she would remember everybody and it would end in a happy ending but doesn't that seem too cheesy? I don't know what I'm talking about right now but just bear with me. I'll try to make this as enjoyable as possible and update fast but no promises. Please review and all that other good stuff! I don't own anything but Warner Bros. and DC Comics do!
Always yours,
light is in the dark
P.S. I tried my best to make Starfire/Kori speak with and without contractions but I feel like it came out weird. Please tell me if I did so I can fix it later.
