Bad Day

The room was slowly filling with light; heating the already warm area. Dark old sheets shifted as the body under them moved slowly waking from a night of rest. Amanda pushed the blankets away from her and slowly sat up. She licked her lips before scratching her mess of red hair. Grunting she sighed looking around the room. There was a strange noise, something she couldn't place.

It wasn't coming from her closet or outside her door. It was a strange ticking sound. She listened, her body wavering back and forth not fully awake yet. Not from her desk or the window it was too close like she was on top of it. A thought rose in her hazed mind; under the bed. So she pitched herself to the side and slid slightly lower to look under it. The ticking sound became clearer and she could see a dim glow from under her bed.

"What the fuck?" She grumbled louder than she wanted and got the response of a trill. "Oh it's you." Amanda flung herself back up and scratched her head again. "Jazz?

:I'm here kid: His voice came along with the feeling of someone almost on top of her.

"You have to work on keeping your…" She fumbled for a word. "…presence at a lower tone or backing off some. However that works." Out of nowhere her laptop was tossed up onto the bed. Amanda stared dumbly at the closed objected. It was followed moments later by the little mech. He crawled up onto the bed using the sheets as something to grip or at least tried to. Each time he would grab the sheet and pull it would pull off the bed. With a small snort she leaned over the edge with one arm and waited.

The little mech looked at her hand and arm then up at the bed. He trilled frustrated and stepped into her hand. Amanda rose up allowing the small mech to step onto the bed. Sitting he opened the laptop and a dark screen full of white text lit up casting a strange glow over the small transformer. He went back to typing and Amanda watched as his claws flew across the keys. Typing in codes and things that were far beyond what she understood about a computer. The ticking of the keys was starting to make her twitch.

"It's too early for this shit." She groaned getting out of bed. She pulled her dark tank top down to her basketball shorts and stumbled out of her room just missing the door frame. Pausing for a moment she listened to hear her father snoring. With a nod she fumbled her way down the hall. Stepping into the small kitchen near the stairs she turned to tight and slammed her toe into a cabinet. Amanda yelped and pulled back before tripping over a chair. She landed on the floor her feet dangling over the chair.

:Not a mornin` person Ah see.: Jazz chuckled out.

"Just shut up I need coffee to deal with your mouth." She ground out staggering to her feet. After a few minutes of getting the coffee pot ready Amanda sat down in one of the two wooden chairs at the small table. She yawned and rested her face in a hand before closing her eyes slightly. In truth she was a morning person after she had her coffee. She spent years getting up a four or five in the morning to go through training or to get the gym set up. Yet she could never her get the hang of rolling out of bed and being ready for the day. She just had to have coffee first.

After ten minutes and two cups of coffee Amanda stood from her chair. She held a chipped blue mug in her hand as she headed down the hall. "Jazz?"

:Is it safe?:

She rolled her eyes with a grunt. "Yeah, you're good. So you said this Witwitky…"

:Witwicky.:

"Right Witwicky lived in Nevada?"

:Yeah a place called Tranquility.:

"Well that can't be that common of a name so it shouldn't be too hard to find him. I'll just use…" Amanda paused as she opened her bedroom door. The little mech was still sitting on her bed with the computer but the there was a spark and he jumped back. The laptop gave off a puff of gray smoke and the mech stared at it for a moment before turning to her with a worried look.

"…my computer." Her eyes twitched as she tightened the grip on her mug. "You broke my laptop." She snapped turning a glare to the little mech. He trilled lowly and dropped his head staring at the ground. "What is wrong with you?" She barked stalking towards the mech. "YOU…"

A sharp trill of fear stopped her dead as he fell onto the bed tangled in the sheets. He had been retreating from her trying to escape. Amanda felt it. Jazz playing at his end of her emotions; trying to get her to focus on calm. She sighed and resigned herself to glaring at the mech. Rubbing her face with her free hand she sighed. "Screw it I don't care."

The little mech looked up watching her lean against the door frame and drinking from a mug. She wasn't paying any attention to him as she stared at a spot across the room. It looked as if she was thinking something through. Amanda took another drink from the mug and he made a needy click. Her attention fell back to him with a confused look.

He scurried down from the bed and over to her. Holding up his arms Amanda blinked. She had seen toddlers do this to their parents. Did he want picked up? To test it she leaned down and the little bot clambered into her offered grasp. He positioned him shelf to sit half on her shoulder and half with her supporting him. With another click he reached for the coffee mug.

"Hey! No." Amanda snapped moving it away. This only prompted the mech to move. He basically crawled across her head. Each time he got closer to the mug Amanda would stretch her arm out further. To keep it away from him. Laughter filled her mind. It was melodious and soft and Amanda wanted to kill Jazz for laughing at her. "This isn't funny! What if it causes him to sort out or something! It could kill him." She retorted as the mech balanced on her outstretched arm.

:It won't do that much damage. The litt` guy will get a taste of it and not want it. It's not energon.:

She picked the mech off her with her now fully free arm. He trilled out a protest as she tucked him under her arm. "What's energon?" Amanda asked tipping her head.

:It's what we consume for energy.:

"I'm sure they'll have that at the corner store right next to the dexto-based foods."

:What?:

"Nothing. It there anything else he can eat?" She hiked him up higher as she struggled slightly trying to get loose.

:Electricity. It's not really good for us but it will do.:

Amanda thought about it then nodded. Heading down the hall the little mech trilled and clicked at her to let him go. She didn't need to understand his language to know that. Jazz continued to chuckle mildly and she couldn't stop the small smile that played at her lips. Descending the stairs she set the little mech on the boxing ring and went to the office. Coming back Amanda had a knife in one hand and her coffee mug in the other. Setting them down she approached the flickering soda machine.

:What are you doing?:

"Well I don't have anything that can transfer electricity into something consumable so I'm going to try something and hope it works." Amanda said planting her feet. She gripped the sides of the soda machine and started to pull on one side then the other. Effectively walking it away from the wall. Turning she walked back over and grabbed the pocket knife before unplugging the machine. Kneeling down she was focused on the cable.

The little mech watched curiously as he saw her attention drift completely away from him. Standing he approached where she had set her mug of well he wasn't sure what it was but she had been drinking it. He stopped just short of it and reached out a claw. Pausing to glance at Amanda who was stripping the wires now he went back to his mission. Slowly his claw wrapped around the handle and he pulled it towards himself.

"Didn't I say no."

The little bot made a squealing noise at the sound of her voice and the mug went into the air. Before he could run Amanda had scooped him up from the mat and stepped away. Her coffee mug came crashing down to the ground. Ceramic scattered as it hit the ground and her black coffee pooled around the broken shards. She sighed closing her eyes and set him down next to her. "I'll clean it while you eat." He looked up at her confuse. "Over there where the machine was. The wire is stripped." He nodded and went to look. Amanda grabbed paper towels from the office and went about cleaning. As she did she kept an eye on the little mech.

"Does he have a name?" Amanda asked picking up the pieces of the mug. There wasn't an answer from Jazz for a moment before there was a pulling sensation near her heart. It wasn't as strong as the first time. The little mech lifted his head from his food to look at her and trilled slightly.

:Doesn't seem that way.: She could feel his curiosity echoing around her. :Why don't cha give him one.:

Amanda stopped and turned to look at him. He was coming towards her and she looked back down finishing up the cleaning. "His mother should do that."

Jazz didn't know the word exactly but he understood the implication. :He doesn't have one.:

"What?" She asked standing up the little mech by her leg now.

:Well he was created here on earth so he doesn't `ave any parental units.:

Amanda looked down at the little mech as he reached out his arms towards her like before. She swallowed it hurt this time. The first time it happened she had naturally picked him up but now she was thinking about it. He was alone, with no parents or care giver. Involuntarily she put her hand over her lower abdomen and fought at the tightness in her chest.

:Amanda, ya okay?:

She blinked and nodded before leaning down. The little mech scrambled into her arms. "What were you doing on my computer?" Amanda asked standing back up. He trilled sadly what she understood to be his version of sorry. It was followed by several clicks.

:He was hacking.:

"Hacking?" She hummed. "What about Glyph?" The little mech trilled happily and snapped his arms around her neck. A smile twitched on her face. "I guess that works doesn't it. Now can you fix my laptop?" He nodded and got down running for the steps. Amanda scratched the back of her neck with a sigh. "Let's go check on the car in case he gets that thing working again."

:Car?:

"Yeah. Once I find out where this kid lives I'll give him a call and then we'll see about meeting him and the Autobots somewhere." Amanda explained putting on a pair of shoes.

She headed out the front door and then towards the back of the gym. Near the back was a chain linked fence. Amanda undid the lock and opened the gate to an enclosed area large enough for three cars to sit in. Tucked back in further was a broken down looking garage. The once pristine wood was dark and bowed held together by the vines of ivy crisscrossing the building.

:Is that building safe?:

Amanda tipped her head. "Not sure. Haven't opened the damn thing in about a year." She stepped closer and pulled on one of the doors. The ivy strained and snapped. The door slowly slid across the gravel leaving a darkened tail where it scratched the ground. The building creaked as light flooded across an old dust covered black car.

:What is that?:

Amanda chuckled at the feeling of shock that came from his end. "A 1986 Chevy Corsica, that hopefully still runs." Approaching it she ran a hand across the hood. It was covered in and she wiped her hand on her shorts. Pulling open the door it moaned and groaned with resistance. She leaned in and started searching the car for the keys.

A creak echoed through the building that Jazz heard but Amanda made no response to it. He could hear the building creaking and moaning but she was mumbling to herself about keys.

:Hey kid.: He called but was being ignored.

The creaking and moaning got louder as she pulled up a black bag. "Maybe they are in here." She mumbled and started searching through the bag.

:Kid.: There was a creak.

Amanda lifted her head as panic flooded over her from Jazz's end. "What…"

:Amanda, ya have to get out of here!:

"Why?" She asked stepping out of the car. There was a loud creak and dust tumbled down from above. Pausing Amanda looked up when a snap echoed thought the building. She shot out of garage as more boards snapped and broke. The back part of the building caved in. Dust flowed out of the open door. Amanda coughed and waved her hand clearing the air. She sighed.

"Well at least it was just…" There was another snap and the whole roof came down. The sound of metal creaking and glass shattering echoed out of the rubble. Amanda felt her eye twitched. "Fuck." She swore.

:Well at least…:

"Shut up Jazz."

A/N: Well there you go guys and gals new chapter. I figured that with the response the last chapter received that I would put this one up earlier than planned. Also I felt bad for giving you such a short chapter last time. If you have any questions feel free to ask and I will answer if it doesn't expose too much of the story. Good Reading!
